Hi Micro Thirds Users and Admires 😊I can't believe this is my most watched and engaged video. And I'm surprised by how many people use Micro Four Thirds, and how passionate people are about the system. I wish I could tell you that I'm still using Micro Four Thirds Cameras, but sadly I don't anymore. I did buy the GH6, which had everything going on for it, just not Phase Detect. Not because I needed Phase-detect, but I guess I assumed, when GH5 was Panasonic's break out Camera, you would expect, that the successor, would have fixed the only complain people had with the camera, which was the Auto-Focus. Since releasing the G9ii, there is still hope for the system, and it seems Panasonic is still invested in the system. I had pretty much all the lenses, as you can see in one of my videos, where I discuss the GAS Problem( Gear Acquisition Syndrome) I had with Micro Four Thirds. That has now been transferred to the Fuji X-system, which I now use, and seems to be comfortable with. Do I miss the system? I think MFT is Amazing, and I think a lot of people are introduced to the world of photography and videography through the GH5 and G9, which are both still amazing cameras, which can be had at attainable prices. I tried something new, which is the Fuji x-system, and I seem to be comfortable with that, for now. The GX9, with the 15mm Leica Lumix, 25mm Olympus, and 45mm Olympus primes is simply Amazing. That fact that it has IBIS, and stellar image quality in that form factor is beyond me. I hope that they come out with a GX9ii, with a few more video features, and Real-Time Lut Feature, so you can emulate film, and get amazing Jpegs straight out of the camera, while also introducing Phase-detect. What the price of such camera would be I don't know, but that would be interesting! I hope you enjoy this video, and i hope you are all well ♥︎
I just switched from fuji to Lumix and got the Gx9 with three lenses for a great price. I don't understand why the evf is getting such hate. It works perfectly fine. And having the ability to tilt the evf is amazing when getting low shots in harsh light. Much easier to see (imo) than using the LCD. It also makes the experience quite fun and unique and makes me feel like I'm using one of those classic film cameras where you look down into the ovf. Edit: it is also much faster to tilt the evf than to tilt the LCD. And i love that feature :) I love the Gx9 and will hold on to it until it breaks 😅 (plus those tiny and cheap MFT lenses!)
That's cool you went from Fuji to Lumix, I went the other way, even though I think Lumix overall is one of the most underrated camera brands out there! I think you are right about the EVF. The thing was, I never really used it that way, but if i did, I suspect my assessment would have been different 😊 What lenses did you get with the GX9? Thx for watching :)
your eye might can not discern differences between evf of GX9 and evf of other cameras. I love absolutely GX9 but the evf of GX9 is the only thing I want to throw out.
I have both cameras- the x100v first and then the Gx9. I was turned off by the Fuji overheating easily. It’s why I looked at Gx9- now there’s a camera- sleek, elegant, beautiful, wonderfully and thoughtfully designed.

The GX9 with Leica 9mm, 15mm, 25mm and 42.5mm lenses is my favourite camera, but after more than 65 years as a photographer what do I know. It reminds me of my Leica IIIf.

Someones else commented that as well. I think it's because I did not use it that way, I think that's why my assessment was a bit subdued :) Thx for watching! :)
I was looking for the GX9 all over and the camera was discontinued, ended up buying the GX85 with kit lens + 45-150 zoom lens for a good price. It's an amazing camera to take with you everywhere. A thumb grip is a must for this kind of compact cameras. Now I'm looking for a faster prime lens.
I have the GX9 (and G90) and I had Fuji X100V but I sold it (never I had good feeling with X100V), I still prefer my GX9 and like you said the best lens matching with it is the 15mm Leica that I love

I've the GX8 for video and long tele lenses, two things, Leica Ms not are great for. Panasonic is a great name into video shooting and my GX8 performs without any trouble. The EVF is a perfect feature to have when using a tripod. You can use the Lumix and no one will notice it. Its appearance is very touristic. On the negative side are the ergonomics. Too many keys on a tight spot. But in general one of the best MFT cameras out there.
I would love to see a successor to this(GX10, GX9 mk ii, etc.) with the new phase-detect 25MP sensor from the G9 mk ii. I think you're right, street photographer is very popular, and Panasonic(and OM System) could make money in that space.
Even better would be a revival of the GX8 in a way. Perhaps the body of the GX9 but the build quality of the GX8, all metal and weather sealed would be fantastic with the new G9ii sensor of course
I'm surprised you didn't find the rotatable EVF on the GX9 useful. I think it's the single greatest feature of the camera. Here's why: 1. Rotate the EVF so you're looking down into it. The camera body is held close in to the core of your body in this stance. This is steadier than with the camera held up to the eye. This is _much_ steadier than with the camera at arm length with the LCD panel. 2. It provides another viewing option for difficult lighting conditions. 3. It is easier to focus with when using MF lenses, especially with focus peaking enabled.
I think you are right. A lot of people find the EVF useful, I just think I did not use that way, to find it useful for me. And I also love the design being one whole unit. But I definitely am starting to see the appeal 😊 Thanks for watching :)
Great review, thank you. If they would release a GX9 II with the viewfinder of the G9 and it's frame markers, I would camp in front of the store to get one :-) A GX9 or G9 is basically everything you need in a camera. I started my Lumix adventures with a G80 and even that one is still a killer camera today with it's 12-60 kit lens.
G9 is definitely my favourite MFT camera, and it might even be one of my Favourite cameras period! The GX9ii will be interesting. Panasonic needs to release that one, especially considering how popular street photography has become 😊 Thx for watching brotha!
Because the GX9 doesn't have a leaf shutter, it can't sync flash at all shutter speeds, but in every other way it's a great camera for travel, street, etc.
Yes for that you could choose an LX100 I or II which does have a leaf shutter and half the cost of an X100v. I own a GX9 and have owned an X100S. I still take my LX100 out the most due to its size. I just have to get it cleaned for dust every so often 🙂
@@bitsandblocks7826 I had actually gone into the store to get an LX100 II, but I walked out with the GX9 instead. The interchangeable lens feature (including the ability to clean the sensor myself) sold me, and the fact that there was a $200 instant rebate that put the cost below that of the LX100 sweetened the deal.
@@alex-reay How would that fix not being able to sync flash at all shutter speeds? If you're suggesting that it would allow a slower shutter speed, stopping down changes depth of field, and a slower shutter changes how motion is rendered.
@@seikibrian8641 oops yes my mistake. For some reason, I had in mind, the X100 built in ND filter which you didn’t mention at all. Note to self, do not engage social media as soon as I wake up, allow brain to kick into gear and if I must engage, then at least read the other person’s comment in full before saying something silly 😂 apologies. So yes leaf shutters and the flash/speed access is a useful feature. Have it in my old Olympus XZ1 (although I’ve never really needed it) a super little camera.
I made a mistake selling my Gx80/85 and regret it. Then I bought a Gx9 because I couldn't find a mint condition Gx80 again. Even if I don't use much my Gx9, I won't make that mistake again. I'm going to keep my Gx9 and use it when I feel inspired. It's one of the best-looking little cameras that packs a lot of features. Also, I noticed the prices are going up, and this will probably be the last Gx made
I have one. A brilliant little camera and because I suffered an eye stroke in the right eye. So the tilting evf works for me. I shoot in RAW and done need any jpeg recepie to get results
That is so cool the the Tilting EVF is so usefull to you. I am definitely starting to understand why people find it to be useful. If you only shoot raw, then the GX9 is great! Thanks for watching, and keep taking photos! 😊
I love Panasonic. I still have my '2011 32" LCD TV, and some other household products, a cordless phone etc.. never had a single issue with any of those. They are so overlooked because they are not hyped up like the other brands, but man they make some great cameras. My first ever camera was a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8. I am a Nikon shooter nowadays but now looking for a point-and-shoot, and the GX9 seems to tick all the boxes.
I recommend this six year old camera. I just purchased a GX9 with the kit 12-60mm lens. I went to NYC last week with the PL15mm lens but never took the 12-60mm lens off the body. What a surprise. I have no desire for full frame. I also use Fuji. The GX9 is small and light. Put the PL15mm lens on this body and you have a very small footprint. Not as small as the GRiii but small and light enough to carry around all day without a problem. I enjoyed having the compensation knob on the top plate vs the GX85 where a dial has to be pushed in to get to this feature. I LOVE the L monochrome D film simulation. It is better than the Fuji Acros with the red filter. I also like the vivid setting for color. These are my C1 and C2 settings. I like the image quality produced from this body. Some have complained about the EVF being too small. I found it is more than adequate to frame my images. The fact it tilts is OK but I seldom move it to an angle to the top plate. I love that this body has a touch LCD screen. This can be done with most touch screens but I LOVE setting the touch screen to autofocus and then shoot feature. This is so convenient when doing street photography. The video is very good for a photography centered body. The IBIS works well for stills or video. There is dual stabilization for additional stabilization with certain lenses including the kit 12-60mm lens. Hooray for the tilting screen. Why Panasonic doesn’t include an audio in jack on its small bodies makes me angry. Making the GX9Mii Weather sealed body would be a nice improvement. The depth from defocus works well for photography. It is fast and accurate. In video mode the DFD isn’t sticky and lets this body blown. I hope the phase detection on the chip will be incorporated into the next iteration of this camera. This is a very powerful little camera and I would recommend it highly. It is very good when used for street or travel. It is also, with a small prime, a very good every day carry camera that easily fits into a jacket pocket. I hope this body receives a few improvements with a new iteration. Please don’t sell your GX9. You will regret it. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Hey brotha! Thanks for the comment, and explaining your experience :) I have sold it unfortunately, but i still hope to see a Gx9ii, and what Panasonic can do with such a camera. Thanks for watching 😊
@@universallanguage9839 I have seen a lot of comments about a GX9 update on TH-cam channels. Now that we’ve seen a video centric full frame body S9 and video centric M43 GH7 it is time for a small lightweight photography centric body. The Upgraded GX8/9 is what I’m hoping for. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
You really don't need to buy an add-on grip. The focus is fine for photography. You can us the half-press and ELF presence to focus very fast. There are several focus modes, so experiment. Even with the 12-60 mm zoom, the camera is OK for street and it is a great travel option. (I prefer the more expensive Leica version of the 12-60, but it is slightly larger and heavier than the base Lumix version.) My street lens is the 15mm Leica f1.7 for the optical quality. The Vivid profile is indeed excellent, but I shoot RAW-JPG with Vivid for a nice catch all. Also don't rule out the LMonochrome for interesting B&W work in the street. This camera is developing a following, and once you use it for a while, you will find out why.
Really thinking about buying one. There is one used for sale near me for 450 with two lenses, the G Vario 12-32mm and the 35-100mm. Might buy the Panasonic Leica 15mm later then
@universallanguage9839 Update. The sellers account got deleted because he was a scammer lol thankfully he didn't get me. Got a new OM5 instead with the 12-45, 45 1.8 and 3 batteries directly from OM for 1000€ thanks to a promotion and cash back. Still bought the 15mm Pana leica which should arrive soon.
@@DeMomentoEve its a good observation. Olympus makes micro four thirds cameras as well, and i have owned those cameras before. And i just had some of those caps in surplus. I have always preffered those caps design than the ones lumix makes. That is the reason why i used those caps. It’s just a questions of look. 😊
LUMIX has abandoned the GX body line. The body is too small for the PDAF sensor from the G9ii and the processor. They generate more heat and need a larger body. They also consume more energy so a larger body is required. I’m hoping the SP body can be used as the GX9 upgrade. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
I'm looking to get into photography and it seems like all the recommended cameras are either discontinued or they are so high in demand it's sort of impossible to get one. Also it's kind of a shame I can't find much about good low end cameras in the $500 range. Looks like I have to get something that's $1k+ and then however more expensive the lenses are.
Just getting started? Looking for a sub $500 body? Think about the GX85. This is the predecessor of the GX9. 16mp vs. 20. A very capable body for ~$350-400. I still use and love it. The GX9 is an incremental improvement over the GX85. A good camera to learn with. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
You will be investing in a lens mount system. Decide which one, not necessarily easy, then buy a standard zoom lens and a used body which could be a generation behind for the savings. You might grow out of the body, but probably not the lens. Mirrorless is the present and the future. (IMO Pentax is the past. I have a lot of Pentax gear no one is willing to buy. )
It's has definitely been a pattern for cameras lately, either being discontinued or the prices skyrocketing. But it is still possible to find cheaper cameras. Thanks for watching 😊
The Panasonic focus is fast, and accurate, as in locked in no time! This is an awesome street shooting camera. GX-9 is the best MFT street shooter camera. The Lumix is a classic range finder style and looks great in black. The professional black color. The color is fine, and Olympus and Lumix / Leica lenses render well.

Hey man, great review! I totally agree with you, I love my GX9. I just wish it had the EVF of the X100V, though. I will purchase the next iteration of the X100 series, if it has IBIS!?!?
You just have to keep it! I regret selling mine. It's too late to sell in 2023 and then have time to get around to regretting it. I'm actually getting tired of my X100V! I would love to have an Olympus lens like yours with the manual focus clutch. Manual focus is a tiresome experience on the Fuji. Autofocus too for that matter. Great video! SUBBED.
I am sorry to hear that! The x100v is not the best for Manual Focusing. I hope you have found a camera that works great for you Brotha! Thanks for watching 😊
Na, you can't say MFT is anything but awful, and it's always full frame or bust. Jokes aside, the GX85 is also worth looking at with a cheap price point but solid enough build, and they take great stills (it's 16mp, but that sensor is still solid, I've got a lot of 11x14's and even bigger out of the 16mp mft bodies that came out great). TBH, I think the GX85 will be a classic down the line with a following, just as the E-M10 Mark II is gaining now. The E-M5 Mark II is also another affordable and amazing body for MFT on a budget.
The GX9 is only an incremental improvement over the GX85. Both are super cameras. The GX8 is a little bigger and heavier but is worthy of a look. 20MP sensor. IBIS. Audio jac (why doesn’t the GX85/9 have one?), flip out screen (I don’t like), weather sealed. For some reason IBIS doesn’t work for video. Solution use a stabilized lens. Also shutter slap @ ~ss1/200. Bought for $400 at the local camera store. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
I am not sure. The price could be a factor, since the GX9 in certain places might be overpriced, and the gx8 can be had for a really great deal ,which makes it a lot more appealing. There might be some features as well, that might be unique to the camera though, but I'm not entirely sure what those are. Thanks for watching :)
This camera is not one to come up on the used market often, i have been looking for one for a while, second i set all my cameras to the natural color profile, the reason is that I photograph so many different subjects and I can post process the files to my liking depending on the subject that I am photographing and the look I want to achieve, if I'm going to print the photo i can adjust the file to the type of paper i will use to make my print.
It’s definitely better with good lighting (gx85), but definitely in low light images get noisy quick. Only if I use the Nocticron 1.2 it handles it better though. I shoot both m43 and an apsc (Leica X).
It is a fixed lens system, that is the beauty of the Camera, but also the negative. the prices have definitely been too Insane for the X100v. Thanks for watching :)

Also, I noticed the prices are going up, and this will probably be the last Gx made
I love the experience of Panasonic menus but the GH5 felt too large. I feel right at home with my Gx9. 😄
The price to performance can't be beat.
The menus of the Panasonic are truly great! thanks for watching :)
You can get a hotshoe thumb grip to make it easier to handle
That's pretty cool :)
Panasonic for sure is an Underrated brand! :)
@@universallanguage9839 to me they are just low key awesome :)

Yes the vivid profile is indeed a good one! I appreciate you watching :)
The L monochrome D is my favorite B&W jpeg. Better than Acros with the red filter.

Really thinking about buying one. There is one used for sale near me for 450 with two lenses, the G Vario 12-32mm and the 35-100mm. Might buy the Panasonic Leica 15mm later then
honestly that is actually a pretty good deal. The camera goes for a premium at the moment. So i would definitely recommend that! :)
Excellent review! Thanks!
Thanks Brotha! 😊
The limited heating is due to the smaller sensor size 👍🏾
The GX9 is surprisingly good and not many people know this . . . . Until you went and told them all 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Hi! I need to know something, why the Olympus cap? Is it a reference? Thanks!
You have a phenomenal voice!!! You sound like lex freidman
I appreciate brotha ❤️ That means a lot. Thanks for watching!
LUMIX has abandoned the GX body line.
The body is too small for the PDAF sensor from the G9ii and the processor. They generate more heat and need a larger body. They also consume more energy so a larger body is required. I’m hoping the SP body can be used as the GX9 upgrade.

Engineers can find ways around it if they really want to bring back something like this design and size.
Great and very honest video!
I appreciate it brotha! 😊 Thanks for stopping by :)
Is this a Film Camera or? 😊
This is a great recommendation 😊
Difference PDAF against Contrast AF. Vintage look vs plastic black modern look. Bigger sensor. Different profiles with a name of film rolls.
I sold my GX9 4 years ago and I do regret it. because it held its value pretty well and it is more expensive to buy second-hand today.
Yeah it's wild how well they have held their value. but honestly the build quality, design, and image quality with ibis is ahead of its time.
Switched from this to EM53... Still miss the GX9.
😢
The Gx9 is a great camera! But still hope you enjoyed the Olympus! Thanks for watching :)
@@universallanguage9839 I owned the original EMD5. Loved the colors SOOC. The GX9 is one of my favorite cameras. Tiny but mighty.

Great review and nice set of watches!!!
I appreciate it brotha! 😊
I can't find the color profile "like709" on my gx9...
Hey man! The GX9 does not have the color profile Rec. 709 unfortunately :) thank for watching 😊
I managed to get one for £390 they go for £550-600 depending on the condition, this one is flawless.
That is a decent price. But i'm surprised by how well these cameras hold value :) Enjoy the camera :)
@@universallanguage9839 Thanks with the 20mm F1.7 it's like a x100 but a lot cheaper.
I had a x100s but it was a bit sluggish so I sold it. the prices are insane now pretty much what I paid for the gx9 and a 20mm.
Great points
Thank you man! :)
I bought the X100V late 2022 and early this year (2023), I bought the GX9… these are the only 2 cameras I have right now… and I don’t have any plans of selling any of these 2 cameras… because I love using them both…
They are both cameras. One fixed-lens, the other interchangeable lens system. Thanks for watching 😊
Focus breathing is a problem with the lens you're using. Some breath, some breath less.
Make Gx9 Great Again!
Hopefully Panasonic is cooking something up! Thanks for watching :)
Hey man, great review! I totally agree with you, I love my GX9. I just wish it had the EVF of the X100V, though. I will purchase the next iteration of the X100 series, if it has IBIS!?!?
The x100v with IBIS would be cool! 😊
It is !
Thanks for watching 😊
hi, what is type of Seiko watch is it?
Hey man! Which one? I have done a bunch of reviews on my channel, maybe you can find it there 😊 Thx for watching!
Nice sarb033!
Yeah it's a cool watch. Thanks for watching :)
In 2024, they're literally going for what they cost new.
Damn that’s a bit wild
Na, you can't say MFT is anything but awful, and it's always full frame or bust. Jokes aside, the GX85 is also worth looking at with a cheap price point but solid enough build, and they take great stills (it's 16mp, but that sensor is still solid, I've got a lot of 11x14's and even bigger out of the 16mp mft bodies that came out great). TBH, I think the GX85 will be a classic down the line with a following, just as the E-M10 Mark II is gaining now. The E-M5 Mark II is also another affordable and amazing body for MFT on a budget.
Great pictures will not be determined by the sensor size, but by who is making the shot. Thanks for watching 😊
Bought for $400 at the local camera store.

why do poeple prefer the gx8 at the gx9 ?
I am not sure. The price could be a factor, since the GX9 in certain places might be overpriced, and the gx8 can be had for a really great deal ,which makes it a lot more appealing. There might be some features as well, that might be unique to the camera though, but I'm not entirely sure what those are. Thanks for watching :)
thank for the vid is a great review and work@@universallanguage9839
The GX8 is weather resistant and has a better evf. There's also a flip out screen.
Best feature on GX7/GX9 - the viewfinder!
I think a lot of people will agree with you on that! :)
GX9 has no external audio input - so you can't use it for everything
True. Same for GX85. Why Panasonic? Why?

This camera is not one to come up on the used market often, i have been looking for one for a while, second i set all my cameras to the natural color profile, the reason is that I photograph so many different subjects and I can post process the files to my liking depending on the subject that I am photographing and the look I want to achieve, if I'm going to print the photo i can adjust the file to the type of paper i will use to make my print.
Yeah you are right. I have not seen one in awhile 😔Its great camera with a natural color scheme
I though this was a joke. Surprise is not!
Please do not use an olympus cache on a panasonic camera for a video review !
I have olympus lenses, and its M43
Do a street photography session with it.
I don't have the Camera anymore, but that could have been cool! 😊Thanks for watching :)
It sucks over ISO 800
Yes, in tests online ISO does not hold a candle to Fuji sensors, This comparison is apple oranges, the smaller older sensor on G9 too.
@@Ed-lz4jv I own the Lumix and Fujifilm. Lumix is in a box but won't use it again
It’s definitely better with good lighting (gx85), but definitely in low light images get noisy quick. Only if I use the Nocticron 1.2 it handles it better though. I shoot both m43 and an apsc (Leica X).
shoot RAW and use AI noise reduction, no noise issue up to 6400! i don't trust built in jpg from any brands whatsover.
The Fujifilm X100V doesn't have a system to invest into, other than the hype system. #overpriced #builtforsheep
It is a fixed lens system, that is the beauty of the Camera, but also the negative. the prices have definitely been too Insane for the X100v. Thanks for watching :)
Overpriced Feb. 24. $850, forget it.
Is that on the used market?
@@universallanguage9839 yes, so many better camera for that price.
@@universallanguage9839 The GX9 is no longer manufactured so you can only purchase them used. $850 is definitely overpriced. I bought mine ~ two years ago from a camera store with the 12-60 kit lens for $700 a very good price.

all good unless your subject moves, then you are f--cked. Lumix autofcus is just pure crap.
all good is good enough for most of purpose, but pro sport, bird shooting are something else
Depth from defocus (DFD) is more than adequate for photography. DFD isn’t sticky in video. The DFD would go back and forth until focus is locked.

I would not sat its pure crap. Its not just as fast as sony or some of the more advanced systems
