    So nice to see someone making a long handle 3/8 that isn't flex head.

      If you go to oreillys autoparts they have a long ratchets from 1/4 to 1/2 inch drive the brand is PT (performance tools ) I believe the1/4 inch drive is pretty long I think is 18 inch

      Seriously though. I just bought this exact ratchet in 1/2”. I’m about to buy a snap on big boy and a gear wrench 24” 1/2” because they’re invaluable and I keep spares in a service truck bag and need one for my shop as well as our most used equipment

    I bought all 3 drive sizes of this ratchet to keep in the shared “brake job cart” in our shop. They’ve been great. The 3/8 and 1/2 have been thoroughly abused on crusty caliper bracket bolts, held up great.

    The Titan is identical to what Northern Tool sells under the Klutch brand. Lifetime guarantee at $24.99 as apposed to $32.00 cheapest you can fine on eBay at the moment for the Titan.

    Nice job on the review. When I hear " Sealed" I think it is not serviceable. However, you showed how it can be serviced, They don't make it easy by their choice of circ clip. If you do find a suitable replacement internal snap ring with holes please share the size. Also, I would assume this ratchet has a bit more back drag than most. That is the trade off for the heavy spring and larger pawl which you would want with a long handled ratchet. I see this ratchet fitting nicely into a collection as you well describe. One size does not fit all.

    There is an O-ring on the shaft of the selector switch on the one I got, i think that it is there to help prevent the ingress of dirt.....worth checking yours out....maybe a re visit.

    I’d picked up the 1/4” because I fell in love with the blue anodized handle. It feels great in the hand and I use it all the time. So I decided to buy the 3/8” and it broke on me the very first use. The replacement sometimes doesn’t engage with the pawl. I’ll warranty it out again but I have to say I’m not hopeful.

      I had one about the same age as this video If not a year older. And it had a crap ton of abuse especially at the first shop I was was at. There was a period where I didn't use it for a year or so and now at the current shop. I think I was loosening an alternator bolt and it was tryna bind up on me if the anvil is pushed at a certain angle. So I warrantied it out got a new one and it failed after having to loosen another alternator bolt on a different car. Bought a Duralast flex head 3/8s had no problems yet. My set is damn near Duralast and that shit works good.

    Looks great and hopefully it’s just the one ratchet I have seems to binds up if there is an angled force on the drive especially it it’s angled towards the handle on the back drag. Nice ratchet with a small thin profile head with excellent length and great overall except for the binding which kills it for me. I have had this same problem on a few other brands that get into the high tooth count unfortunately.

    • @CatusMaximus
      @CatusMaximus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I can attest to that the coarse tooth ratchet seem to work in any situation where they find his ones do you like to bind up if you have sideways force in awkward positions however they do seem to break in after a while and stop being so fussy

    • @bricegraham8256
      @bricegraham8256 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same problem I had with my old model. When I got it replaced it would bind up even more. So I'd have to get a pair of pliers move twist the anvil, and it'll start working again. But so ridiculous. It's like they put all their engineering efforts into the handle and just stopped there.

    I was looking for a review of one of these, because i've been abusing the ever living crap out of one, and it finally died
    Nah just kidding. it was in a garage fire, and still WORKS. I've hit it with a hammer, used a 3ft tube on it, and done any manner of unspeakable things to it, and the icing on the cake is the shop it was in BURNT DOWN (im using this as a coping mechanism for all the shit i lost, shut up) and it's still clicking like when it was new. I admit, i can't change directions cos the spring inside is not doing spring things, but i figure i swap that spring out, and make a new handle (blue part is aluminum, melted clean off) and it'll serve light duty as a ratchet again. It's earned its place as the most indestructible ratchet. I literally had about 14 ratchets and all the other brands (including snap-on) died. These things are insane.

    Seems like a very nice ratchet, I just ordered one for myself although I wasn't able to find it online on Autozone's site. The not having a direction on it for on/off doesn't really bother me, heck my two Proto 5450xl's don't have markings on them for off and on.
    One thing I did notice is the internals on the Titan look just like the internals on the Proto 5450's that I have, I'm not saying they are made of the same quality but for a weekend mechanic such as myself I cannot see this ratchet failing me under the use I would give it.
    I own Snap-On, SK, Proto, Cornwell, Mac, Gearwrench etc tools and I am happy to add this along side my other tools.

    • @CatusMaximus
      @CatusMaximus  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes this is a pretty nice unit and it could very well be that Proto is manufacturing these for Titan. As you get deeper in the products you find out that not all manufacturers make their products and some large manufacturers contract out their facilities to other toolmakers to keep the doors open. And there are manufacturers that don't directly sell any products they just make stuff under contract for other companies.

    • @MegaLostOne
      @MegaLostOne 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The ratchet showed up the other day and after finally getting a chance to handle it I believe had I felt it in the store I would have passed on buying this ratchet. I don't know if maybe it is just mine or not but when mine showed up the ratchet felt gritty when turning it by hand and after changing the selector from one direction to the other it would have a large amount of resistance before wanting to move freely in the other direction.
      I took the ratchet apart and ran some steel wool around the anvil section and it removed some of the black oxide coating which helped smooth it out some but there was still some binding so I took it apart again and used a fine wire brush to try to clean more of the coating out of the anvils gear teeth which helped it more, I did oil it before putting it back together both times as well. There is still a small amount of binding when you first change direction but nothing like it was when I first got it and I am guessing this will smooth out as the anvil and paw wear into each other with use.

    I bought the 3/8 drive and the 1/4 inch drive ratchet identical almost to this tool ! Both of them have a lot of play in the ratchet gear causing the ratchet motion to seize or bind halfway through ratcheting motion❗️❗️
    And it’s the bad is this a link to the full and high-quality but like I said in the title don’t judge a book by its cover ❗️❗️

      Carlyle ratchets are probably my favorite and their swivel head is probably the toughest ratchet out there rn.

    The ratchet mechanism looks to stiff did you have to put that socket on there to ratchet it if so that would be a pain in the ass once the bolts loose ?

    • @CatusMaximus
      @CatusMaximus  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The mechanism is average and stiffness but not too bad after it breaks and it'll be better but if people want low back swing then you need to get clutch type ratchet which have no backswing resistance

    I just got one. The back drag on the ratchet seems quiet stiff. Is that the case for yours?

    • @CatusMaximus
      @CatusMaximus  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems okay I found what's ratchets that if they have really light Back Drag but they can tend to slip especially after they get well used so I tend to like stronger Springs. There's also clutch type ratchets which have no backswing resistance but are not the strongest for breaking bolts

      Tekton makes a 18 inch 3/8 long ratchet in a quick relealease and non quuck release. I have the quick release version of it and it's super thin.
