This may not look anything special if you have average wrists but for guys like me with smaller wrists this is an incredible addition. Display case back, 20 bar WR, sub-40mm case, this checks a lot of the boxes of the Sinn 556 and will be undoubtedly a lot more affordable. It’s also less Spartan, with a degree of warmth to it. Great work Average Bros for highlighting this little gem. Will definitely check this one out.

warmth is a good way to put these compared to Sinn. Sinn watches are beautiful but they seem so plain and utilitarian. Its a cool look but it seems like it would get boring fast.

@@joshmiller2725 I agree. In my case I purchased a Damasko DS30. Online it looked great, and the technology in it is doubtlessly fantastic. However, it just didn't do anything on my wrist; it was too austere, I hate to say it, boring even. This is a different story entirely.

In regards to the leather oem strap, I’d say to anyone who isn’t sure about the leather... not to judge too early. Once it’s broken in a bit it’s great. Don’t forget guys, all the best leather can take time to break in. The best leather boots I have felt very uncomfortable initially. For me, breaking in new leather is like making that thing your own. I’m really impressed with the strap. I even bought the oem bracelet that comes on the green dial and I haven’t yet used it.

They are moving towards premium...

The only thing I don't like about the black/gray and the blue ones is that the hands and Seiko logo are metallic/silver while the indices and 6-oclock-script is in a cream tone. The green one has the same color on everything (except the date complication) and it looks much better imo

    It's a great watch.
I also fell in love instantly with it. It has elegance, strength and a clean functional but still unique seiko-style dial ( I find it better this way than with the alpinist's not so functional bezel). Most of my watches are above 42mm and this is just a so good addition to versatility to them. Also (for me) the dial has a spice of resemblance to another (sadly too expensive) love of my: the Omega Railmaster...
I hate it that I made a promise that in this year I do not buy another watch -it's almost a physical pain to hold it back :(

The good thing about seiko/GS, you can get good discount. Like all other brands, the profit margin is 40% or more. So, 25% discount is reasonable. Now, business is slow. I see the new cocktail srpe 41j1 selling with a 35% discount on Shopee, a Malaysian online portal. I would nego for a 30% discount for this new alpinist @$490.
I bought rolex with a 30% discount during the last Asian financial crisis. The cost of making machine made watches before marketing is probably about 10% of MSRP. For hand finished GS, perhaps 10% more. For higher end GS with mechanism also hand finished, like those made in the micro artist studio, then, another 10% more.

I was excited about the 38mm case size, but I feel the thickness is off putting, though will have to see how the proportion are percieved on wrist. The dial seems...odd. The texture looks crude and the colours just aren't that elegant. The train track second markers also seem out of proportion in relation to the dial as does the hour markers and numbers. I like the hand shapes, but again the red tip to the second hand feels crude and off putting. The whole thing just seems off to me, and hard to point to why, but as suggested in my ramble I feel like it's a sum of parts which just don't really jive with me at all.

I think it's a really great release. I do also wish the numbers were lumed as well. That would be perfection. I'd also really like to see it on either the Seiko bracelet like the green one, or a Strapcode Super-O (if that fits). I think it would really rock a vintage Explorer vibe like that.

I have the blue version SPB157 on the Strapcode SuperO with a quick adjust clasp. It’s one of my most worn pieces. I think the SPB159 would be killer on a tropic strap!

@@GabrielTan1980 I did not know they had a quick adjust version now, but see it on their website. That is good to know about, thanks.

so much better without that ridiculous compass. wish they did a white dial like on the recent white alpinist, i'd get it for sure.

I actually like Seiko's "backward" deployant clasps.

A great looking watch, but the 6R35 has gotten terrible user reports in terms of accuracy.

Yes, it is a very nice watch, but the caliber is so disappointing!
