    I love looking at these pictures of the history of racing! It reminds me of the days that my dad and I walked through the pit at Warsaw Speedway and looked at race car and I remember how excited I was! I remember a very special moment my life looking at these pictures of the time that I met Jim Elliot in the pits at the racetrack my dad new Jimmy Elliot and that's how I met him period one of the best rates drivers I ever seen in my life! Looking at these pictures bring tears to my eyes because of the special moments that I had at Warsaw Speedway and most of all was my dad and Jimmy!

      Been a race fan since I was a child! My family and friends were all into racing, so I have fond memories of the good ol days! It's not as interesting to me today, with big sponsorship and it's expensive to be a race fan nowadays! These old pics take me back to when i was a kid, and hearing stories and seeing photos of my grandpa and his friend's cars. The 70s and 80s racing scene gives my good feels! Obviously, a lot of people love and remember the old days!

    I’ve disliked enclosed race car trailers from the day they started using them, and I’ll use the photo of the #12 coupe at 3:40 as my single piece of evidence! If I’m driving down the road on Saturday afternoon and pass a truck pulling a white box, I, or anyone else, won’t give it a second thought! But if that red ramp truck passes me with that fine fuel injected coupe riding high and a rack full of tires, I want to go wherever they’re going! I rest my case! You DA MAN MAX!

    • @rchydrozz751
      @rchydrozz751 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. I live less than 5 miles from a dirt track with Friday night races. Seeing these white trailers, you dont know if it carries a race car or full of lawn care equipment.

  • @tomt9543
    @tomt9543 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    At 1:14, I don’t know who the driver of the #18 coupe is, although I LOVE his car, but behind him is, I believe, Charlie Jarzombek in the white stars & stripes #1 coupe. Think he was from NY/NJ area. Killed in a hard crash driving a modified at Martinsville, Va.

      Chuck S A little more on Fred Royal. He did indeed start Royal pipe and Supply. They fielded a late model carrying Royal's #77 and driven for many years by Cloyce Friend and later by the likes of Ray Godsey and Bob Pierce.

    At 3:39 the #12 is Gil Hearne taken at Wall Stadium in New Jersey.

    • @jamiecrawford8133
      @jamiecrawford8133 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did Wall Stadium pay as good as the other popular modifieds tracks of the 70s??

    • @michaelmonnat5654
      @michaelmonnat5654 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jamiecrawford8133 At the time a good majority of the asphalt Modified tracks paid relatively the same amount, give or take. Hearne also plied his trade at dirt tracks as well. He run some at East Windsor Speedway on Friday Nights and the Nazareth half mile on Sunday. Not really a whole lot of options. If you were unhappy at Wall, the options were either Long Island, New England or upstate New York. All of those options were already crowded as well.

    • @jamiecrawford8133
      @jamiecrawford8133 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelmonnat5654 so Wall paid pretty close to Flemington? Never was at either track were their grandstands about the same size?

    • @michaelmonnat5654
      @michaelmonnat5654 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jamiecrawford8133 To be honest with you, Flemington had more stands because it was a larger facility. Flemington was a Fairgrounds large 1/2 mile fast dirt track with seating seemingly all around the place while Wall Stadium was a smaller 1/3 mile asphalt facility with seating on the frontstretch. I actually saw them both for the first time on back to back nights while chasing the 1970 All Star League races. They were 100% polar opposite type tracks but truthfully both tracks provided an awesome show. Also the fan base was also opposite. Flemington was a "dirty" place where fans who sat low in the bleachers had to actually wear bandanas and goggles while Wall Stadium was uniquely clean. At Wall you could have a beverage and be safe from dirt particles in it. When Flemington switched to being an asphalt track in the early 1990's, the whole dynamic of the place did a complete turnaround. I saw about a half dozen shows at both dirt and asphalt tracks and while the dirt die-hards cringed at the asphalt, both surfaces provided excellent competition.

      I've found that "vintage" racing is back in "style", but there's nothing like the good ol' days!
