Ah the Golden years of the NASCAR modifieds. Bugsy was a regular up here in Massachusetts at Seekonk Speedway. The track is still running 2 nights a week. Though unfortunately we lost Bugsy this past year. Ray Hendrick just died recently as well. RIP to 2 of the best 🙏
I guess we’ll never know what prompted the Tant/Mitchell team to build a modified that didn’t LOOK like a modified, but one things for sure. With Ray Hendrick behind the wheel, this car was always a contender for the win! It was a cool looking piece too! I wonder if, somewhere in the weeds of Littleton, NC, this car still exists?
Nope. And back then a modified rule book was nearly nonexistent! The sky was the limit! My first race was in the spring of this same year, 1971, at Bowman Gray Stadium, and I was hooked from that day on! Loved it most back then when everybody built their own car, trailer, and hauled it to the races behind the same pickup truck they worked out of all week! Those days are gone forever!
@@tomt9543 yes they are, now everything is bought with a credit card and a catalog. Last car I built with my buddy the engine alone was 10,000$ for a 4cyl

That #11 Camaro might have been the best race car ever. Of course, the driver didn't hurt.
I'm guessing that window nets weren't mandatory yet

I remember seeing window nets for the first time in 1973 in the Winston cup series.
BUGSY! 😎
30s model cars are cool on cool. Trash the music as these cars are the music.
