I owned a Ford Taunis in Germany in the 1980s. It was much like the Cortina. It was a great car, and I am glad to have owned it. It's nice to see it again.
I worked for a Renault dealer and at one point we had 3 XR2s on our forecourt, all exchanged for 5 Turbos. The turbo was much faster, handled better and was better equipped.
Yeah i used to work in the valeting bay at the local Renault dealer in 1989/1990 and loved the r5gt turbo what a fab car they where for a 1.4 engine.. They where amazing handling motors and quick off the mark too and a world away from the xr3i I was driving at the time😎👍
Oh my god, keys in the door lock rattling against the paintwork on the Fiesta- I would be furious if that was my car. Have all Derek's own cars got key rash on the doors? And keys dropped on the Land Rover wing, wtf?
3 years ago me and my lass walked past the place just as he came out and I thought I’d acknowledge him to be polite and said ‘ alright?’ and he just gave a very quiet grunt and I thought ignorant twat. I used to watch bangers nd cash but not even looked at it since.
Had a 72 stag in 1984, when I bought the entire under bonnet was black with Ziebart, wash it off with petrol, killed my Dad's lawn, but it looked like new under the bonnet
🤣..... bugger the lawn .... look after the Stag 😜.... had my beauty restored 10 years ago and still looking gorgeous ... SHE had the same but when I stripped the complete body ... underneath as well .... used a hot air gun .... wish I knew the secret of using petrol on the Zebart ... but the price of petrol these days !!!! 🤣... do you regret ever selling her ?????
Take it easy with your legs, plenty of water, garlic, preferably a piece of raw garlic every morning with your breakfast,no fizzy drinks at all!!,it works wonders👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Yes that's what I thought. If I remember rightly the 1300 capri was the wife's, the cortina the old man's. The cars got parked up after they each died, but definitely not from overseas.

I'm glad someone else has said this I thought it was just me , I had a mk1 escort and it was alright but it rotted away for fun , as for the 70s Ford's they were and still are a tin box with a very sparse interior , you couldn't give me one of them but I suppose it's each to their own .
You can't beat a good old ford i have been lucky enough to own an XR2 and a mk5 ford Cortina 2.3 ghia with a manual box wish i still had them today lol
More interested in the Metallic Olive Mk 1 Capri behind the Fiesta. Haven't seen one of those in years. Plenty of good old cars coming on the market atm.
Great video. You know you’re getting a walk around from someone who is simply imparting a lifetimes worth of knowledge and experience, and isn’t trying to sensationalise anything to get the You Tube viewing numbers up. Didn’t even take time out to ask us to subscribe and like the video. Thanks Mr Mathewson. PS I will subscribe and like!
Back in the day no one who had a xr2 mk1 had insurance (i had 2 1 black and 1 silver) and it was limited because of only having 4 gears where the mk2 had five and was a lot more usable and better on fuel . There was a mk1 which a lad had fitted a five speed box and i think by memory he had to cut the front n/s chassis and modify it .
Ford Cortina, HOOLEY'S sticker in rear window. They were Ford agent in Nottingham, I bought a Fiesta 1300S from them back in about 1979. In 1987 I bought a Mk2 XR2, brand new. Sold it in 2006 after it failed MOT big time for rust. Only 55,000 miles I think I got about £60 for it, the guy was going to use it for Banger Racing.
My Brother had a red XR2 as a company car, it got stolen. Then he got another one, it was also stolen. His boss scrapped his company car status and increased his salary by £1k pa to buy his own. He bought a Sierra, end of problem.
It'd because they had them in their courting days when they lived at home, had no mortgage and freedom..... Then the wife/girlfriend got pregnant and freedom was a thing of the distance past...Fast forward the future, money from the divorce, house sold, hello freedom hello old mate.😂
I had 5 XR2's and a XR2i when they were only a few years old. The XR2i, although never as popular was a much better driving car. For low end torque the V6 Capri with a manual gear box was the car to have and I had many. Happy days!
1600E was by far the best Ford ever, Mk 3's suffered with OHC failure if you looked at it sideway's , so feeble, Zodiac 6 cylinder ??? Mega car as a 12 year old passenger in a race with a Mk2 Jag from Shap towards Kendal past the Jungle !!!!!!! friggin mega ( 1967 ) , 2024 you haven't got a scooby
I never parted with my crust for xr 2 or 3 because they were crap. At the time you could buy a much better car second hand such as the Renaukt 5 Gordini which had much better boy racer specs and much faster, or the Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9. Wonderful times for a small light hot hatch but not the Fords.
I drove a couple back in the day and they was very underpowered I never could see the attraction and the door locks were awful you could Nick a Ford with a toothpick. I had a nova SR and the XR boys couldn’t keep up 😂
Derek I loved you , till you spouted that the Mk3 Cortina was the best model they ever built, Give over man, they were litter. If you'd have said a 1600E Cortina, then thats more like it coming from a man of your integrity, MK 3's I wouldn't give them the steam off my wee.
What???? He scraped the keys on the land rover wing, ive been in the trade since idarent say,you wouldnt do that ever ever and you wouldnt forget how to open the bonnet of a fiesta I stopped watching here because im clearly disgusted and its fair to say i sold my collection last year and really pleased i didnt send them here because if this is the standard then its not my standard
Unfortunately thay were stolen because they were easy to steal and the petrol gage stayed on even though the the key was out so if you wanted to steal a car with a full tank
Do the buyers get a discount for the amount of scratches you put on the cars by, leaving keys in the door and opening and closing them with keys dangling out or, when you throw them on the sunroofs or directly onto the paintwork in big bunches? I mean seriously pal, youre showing us a video trying to showcase how good your cars are but, yet you show very little care going round them. Makes me think how much care goes into things when the cameras off.
Are you joking, Derek's been in the business for decades and knows what hes doing.it's only a car, it's going to get scratched, marked, bumped. It's a depreciating liability or an appreciating asset that needs to be insured, maintained etc.
More boring 1970s+ Fords, and when his sons eventually take over the business, this will be all there is, as the interesting stuff will be dumped as too troublesome to bother with......
A brown mk4 Cortina , I can barely contain my excitement.
Shouldn’t that of been excrement !
😂
I owned a Ford Taunis in Germany in the 1980s. It was much like the Cortina. It was a great car, and I am glad to have owned it. It's nice to see it again.
I’m a big fan of this program. I can’t believe the amount of buyers purchasing without even seeing the vehicle. More money than sense.
a valid point. I agree.
prices are based on supply and demand most of the cars are worth £50 tops lol
I am fascinated by the total wrecks which go for top money.
I think the bonnet release is a orange lever under the steering cowling.
MK1 bonnet release is by passenger (N/S) foot well on kick panel. THe MK2 was under steering column.
Two lovely ford's from when they were plain and easy to work on thanks Derek for a brilliant trip down memory lane 😊 ❤
I worked for a Renault dealer and at one point we had 3 XR2s on our forecourt, all exchanged for 5 Turbos. The turbo was much faster, handled better and was better equipped.
Quicker because the metal was thinner.
i worst car I ever owned in terms of build quality was a Renault, Fords were far more reliable.
I bet the XR2s started though when the engine was hot, unlike the 5 Turbo. Super car starting from cold but a pig to start when hot.
Fella I worked for in 85 86 raced an R5 in the factory series
Yeah i used to work in the valeting bay at the local Renault dealer in 1989/1990 and loved the r5gt turbo what a fab car they where for a 1.4 engine..

Perhaps you should write a complaint letter lol. Or shut up 😂
Jesus I know...just what I was thinking. I am surprised at him to be honest
Give the guy a break 😮
And then nicely leaning on the door with maximum leverage 😆. Not exactly careful, is he?
Not to mention the microns of wear on the glass when the tape on the windscreen is removed.
He's ruined the car.
I absolutely love Derek , proper common sense old school Geezer! 😎👍❤️
3 years ago me and my lass walked past the place just as he came out and I thought I’d acknowledge him to be polite and said ‘ alright?’ and he just gave a very quiet grunt and I thought ignorant twat. I used to watch bangers nd cash but not even looked at it since.
Derek, you're a Star, mate! Always love your prog.

Sad that Fords are so overhyped and overpriced but it leaves lots of lovely cars for the non millionaires amongst us.
I couldn't afford to buy a Mk1 or Mk2 Escort so bought a Porsche 911 instead 😂
How can they be overpriced if that's what people are happy to pay for them!
@@mickcundall4036because they’ve become fetish objects for rich collectors.
As I said, the car guys and gals will go elsewhere.
Take it easy with your legs, plenty of water, garlic, preferably a piece of raw garlic every morning with your breakfast,no fizzy drinks at all!!,it works wonders👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
The dealer sticker on the rear window , Hooleys , they were the main Ford dealer in Nottingham, until 1999
I do believe the lady owner of that dealership had a Lagonda.
Take the bloody keys out of door when closing, should know better
Give him a break.. He is old, one day that will be you
Come on it’s only a fiesta
Derek should watch Dave’s video on the Cortina.
Dave knows all about it because he picked it up along with a Capri.
Yes that's what I thought. If I remember rightly the 1300 capri was the wife's, the cortina the old man's. The cars got parked up after they each died, but definitely not from overseas.

@@michaeledwards427 Hooleys Ford was a dealer in Nottingham until 1995
I really don’t get it, as a family we had Fords of this era and they were all bludy awful - build quality, handling and reliability were shyte 🙄
I agree, had a mk1 Escort 40 odd years ago and it was shite.
yes your right i worked for a ford main dealer and we had loads of warranty claims
There's a combination of nostalgia and rose-tinted glasses going on.
Bought a new one of these in 83 , £5495 was a cracking little car
I'm glad someone else has said this I thought it was just me , I had a mk1 escort and it was alright but it rotted away for fun , as for the 70s Ford's they were and still are a tin box with a very sparse interior , you couldn't give me one of them but I suppose it's each to their own .
Can't believe the money people are paying for these Fords which aren't even that old yet.
DIY Ziebart in the day was a big tub of cheap underseal that crept up the sills and higher onto the door bottoms each year ,😄😄😄💩
You can tell Derek wasn’t a hot wire expert in the 80s ….. where’s that bonnet catch??? 😂 …. Beautiful XR 2 👍
slam the cortina door with the keys dangling outside in the door lock 🤣
9.49
The car almost toppled over with the force
You can't beat a good old ford i have been lucky enough to own an XR2 and a mk5 ford Cortina 2.3 ghia with a manual box wish i still had them today lol
Derek's probably one of the few people I'd allow to lean on and handle a car the way he does. 👍😁
Agreed 👍🏻
I bloody wouldn't - key left in the lock opening the door, other key fouling the paintwork 😱 That sort of things makes me cringe 😫
Why leave key rubbin* against the pa8nt?
I had a 1981 w reg mk5 about 1989 I absolutely loved it
20 grand for a crappy fiesta. what a mad mad world.
More interested in the Metallic Olive Mk 1 Capri behind the Fiesta. Haven't seen one of those in years. Plenty of good old cars coming on the market atm.

Hooleys also had a Worksop Ford dealership. I got a new Ford Escort there new in 1990.
after market sun roof spoils it
In period roof.
How much do you reckon that Fiesta will get? ... i think i heard 20 Grand?
I don't think the Cortina is South African. Wrong licence plate and I don't believe South African cars got vinyl roofs. Looks really solid though.
Mk1 XR2 had Kent pushrod engine and 4sp gearbox. MK2 had CVH engine and 5sp box.
Much better.
I had a Sunburst Red mk1 XR2. Loved it at the time but I wouldn't want one again. Much better modern classics out there for less money.
They weren't so popular because the Peugeot 205GTI was so much better.
Smells like a Cortina Derek, from my experience of riding as a passenger, they usually smelt of stale sweat. 😂
As for the Fiesta xr2 well enough said
My Brother had a red XR2 as a company car, it got stolen. Then he got another one, it was also stolen. His boss scrapped his company car status and increased his salary by £1k pa to buy his own. He bought a Sierra, end of problem.
I had one as a company car in 84 exactly the same as this
I will never get the 1980s Fordmania!
It'd because they had them in their courting days when they lived at home, had no mortgage and freedom..... Then the wife/girlfriend got pregnant and freedom was a thing of the distance past...Fast forward the future, money from the divorce, house sold, hello freedom hello old mate.😂
All this video needs is him digging the paintwork of the car next door with the door he’s opening, cringing here waiting for it !!!
Fiesta mk1is the best one ever made
I had both Mk1 and Mk2 XR2s. The Mk2 was faster but I didn’t like the CVH engine, preferred the low-end torque of the OHV Kent engine.
I had 5 XR2's and a XR2i when they were only a few years old. The XR2i, although never as popular was a much better driving car. For low end torque the V6 Capri with a manual gear box was the car to have and I had many. Happy days!
I sold 3 at the same time 2 for scrap and about £150 for the 3rd.
That xr2 it a JEM😊👍👍

Didn't catch what he thought the XR2 might sell for?
I think he said £400 ,😂 which is £300 more than it's worth 🤣
He’s wrong about the Cortina, the mk2 Cortina 1600e will make more money and more interest and there’s 2 of them in A1 condition
I had a MK 1 Lotus Cortina and its still on the road.......wished I kept it,,,,worth a fortune now
No speaker holes in parcel shelf too .rare old thing that
It looks like a Cortina. Smells like a cortina. It’s probably a Cortina. 😂
Is that a worslely 6/90 beside it ?
Cortina, looks as rough as badgers @r$e.😁
Keys in the lock and you can hear it hitting paint. Love the channel but sinful to do thzt to a classic ford!

205 GTi impossible to drive sensibly
The XR2 only had 90 bhp they wouldn’t pull you out of bed 🛏️
They only weighted 840kg, so in period went very well. A Lotus Elise weighs more today !
I drove a couple back in the day and they was very underpowered I never could see the attraction and the door locks were awful you could Nick a Ford with a toothpick. I had a nova SR and the XR boys couldn’t keep up 😂
Hooleys Ford was in Nottingham and closed 1995

Guy I know has a MK1 in the same con. He wants 15 grand for it. Told him not to sell untill he has to.
and when he does he'll get 8K
Why do they refer to these as fast fords. They were not particularly quick and mostly was all body kit
Because they were at the time, performance for the common man.
rusted fast

Cortina could be Cypriot, but has a British tax disc on the screen..strange 🤔
Mathesons great buy from buy not good to sell from.
Was that the one that Ian Duty owned when he knew that young lady called Rena .
My daughter had the xr2 and it was stolen and never seen it again
hooley, nottingham sold motocycle has well
V poor quality motors when new let alone now. Nostalgia over inflating prices!
Agreed, can buy a Bentley for the same price!
Derek what an ....
I've got a hat like that.
4.48 did Derrick let rip? 😂😂
Birty ould dastard😖
Slight blow from the exhaust. I heard it when revved up.
Another slight blow at 5.48. More of a fast idle this time.

I guess that’s how he has been so very successful 😂
Guaranteed all to fail their next MOT.

Mk1 was the best the mk2 with cvh was crap in comparison
20k ? Probably will but they are not " fast ! " and where would you dare to park it ? Nah !
In the garage, drive to a show and then back in the garage. Thats what I do with my Bentley.
Mk III Cortina the best? not in my day, wollowy with a heavy pinto engine that didn't like reving - no thanks!
Arfur Daley ?
MK 111 Cortina, the best Ford. Joke. I bought one new in 1972. Terrible quality ex factory. Don't confuse quality with nostalgia!
‘Till’. Come on! Why can’t pro channels spell in thumbnails?!
Do your research before the video.. maybe
Not interested in any of them.
Everyone ARE talking about. Everyone IS talking about. Come on guys let's have sensible English?

I got halfway through the latest episode and gave up , It's got boring now - same -same -same !
Silliest show on television implies they restore cars and auction them in fact just middle men very boring
