One thing the PSP version of Friend or Foe has over the console version is that you can play as characters that weren't in the main version like Carnage and Electro (and I think Shocker too but don't quote me on that)
Damn I wish they added shocker too but I believe his move set would’ve been too similar to prowler considering they both attack with double fists pointed at enemies. But then they literally had New Goblin who was just a reskin of Green, same moves and everything.
it did come with its downsides though. The majority of the time enemies are at like 5 fps, if not lower. And the combat can be overall a bit ugly due to the performances sometimes. So I wouldn't call it "witchcraft", but yeah it's pretty awesome. Even moreso when you consider this was published by activision, which means the budget was super low and the game was rushed. Imagine if the devs had more time to perfect it.
Giving credit where credit is due, Ultimate Spider-Man did a GREAT job of mimicking the art design of the main versions. It's nearly identical, a great example of demake (at least on an aesthetic level).
And things he didn't even bother to say that made that game good were: Venom can grab almost anything if you use the touchscreen, like you can pick up a car and throw it to enemies with the motion of the pen which felt really good, also you can of course throw enemies and smash them on the floor or ceiling if you moved them quickly. Spiderman has some special skills that you can use as combos and it made the combat have more depth (but the only way to see these skills is tapping the touchscreen but I guess, like with venom, he couldn't use this feature). And one last thing is that multiplayer mode actually lets you play as Carnage or Symbiote spiderman which is pretty neat
@@JustPityHD One thing that gripes me is how he finds Spider-Man saving people in games as an issue. He does know he's playing as a super hero right??
I think it would also be important to mention that some of these games were actually ports of the console games OR were heavily inspired by them. Spider-Man 2 for PSP - a direct sequel to Spider-Man 1 Movie Game, with the mechanics being almost exactly the same as the PS2 version of that game, as well as the Neversoft 2001 PS1 game Spider-Man 3 for PSP - a port of the PS2/Wii version, with some additional content I think Spider-Man Web of Shadows for PSP - atcually interesting, because I think that PSP version was the main version and then it was ported to the PS2, while Wii got the full console version Spider-Man Edge of Time for 3DS - you say you are impressed because it feels like a full console game... well because it IS the full console game. it's the exact same game as on the 360, PS3 and Wii, but with worse graphics. Probably the best handheld Spider-Man game just for that reason, but if you have a PS3 then there's no reason to play this, it's literally the same. The Amazing Spider-Man for 3DS and Vita - i think this is actually a very interesting case, and IMO the game is also a very good replica of the Arkham games. the Vita version IS the console version but yeah it was plagued with technical issues, overclocking the console helps somewhat, still it's impressive that they squished the full console game onto it. the 3DS version is a faithful recreation on a different engine, with the free-roaming element being cut - i think it's also kinda impressive an almost representative of the main game, but yeah the combat was better in that one. then there's also the Wii version, which was a separate version, which similarly to the 3DS game, had the open world cut, but was made on a different engine.
I remember playing that Spiderman 3 ds game and found the touch screen combat to be extremely awkward at times. Mainly spamming straight lines and circles was my best method
I hated that game so much. I can’t believe I suffered through that first before trying shattered dimensions. For a ds game, the combat was exceptional. Believe me I never touched Spider-Man 3 ds again 🤣
I had the ultimate spiderman game and as venom you can manually aim your tentacle at any enemy or any projectile and catch it AND throw it back at them. Someone probably said this already, but the reason Bruce Campbell narrates spiderman 3 on PSP, and all the raimi games on console, is because he's very close friends with Sam Raimi. They met in highschool and made a bunch of super8 films, before eventually working on the Evil Dead trilogy.

Edge of Time 3DS is great! They put the entire home console game on 3DS, which is amazing! IMO it looks better than the Wii version. The only issue is that the game itself is not the greatest, but the story is excellently written by the original creator of 2099 himself and the voice acting is superb!
Actually you can eat enemies in Ultimate Spiderman DS too with Venom. It's just that you can't do it the same way to do it with civilians, you need to grab them using the touchscreen. Don't know why but it's like that.

You... really missed the mark on the USM portion. Venom can actually feed on *most* enemies, either with the R button or by dragging the enemy to him with the touchscreen. The slowdown is also certainly down to the emulation. Although I personally don't suffer any slowdown despite also currently emulating it. As for the Spider-Man saving people complaint, that was a rather prominent part of Spidey's levels in the console version too. The touch screen for Spidey is also used to swap moves, via tapping the orange comic panel and making a selection from there.
Not to mention Spidey saving people is one of the main themes of his character. He is a super hero after all and superheroes are supposed to rescue people.

Green Goblin in Battle for New York looks different because it's based on Ultimate Spider Man comic. Green Goblin there looked kinda like The Abomination
A few days ago, I remembered I played Ultimate Spider-Man like 6 or 7 years ago on my cousins GBA during thanksgiving back then. I remembered that game so fondly I had to look it up. Long story short, I managed to convince my mom to let me grab a GBA and a copy of Ultimate Spider-Man. The soundtrack was so nostalgic for me and I friggen love the gameplay.
I have way too much info about Ultimate Spiderman living in my head rent free so i thought I'd share a few things. Battle for New York from we understand is a commissioned DS companion title for a scrapped sequel to Ultimate Spiderman. There's some concept art and unfinished scripts you can find online and it had a nearly identical plot to the DS game from what we've seen. The likely scenario is that the game had a cramped, cheap development after the console sequel was canned. Goblin also is an actual mutated monster in the Ultimate universe, but his character model is so low poly that i dont blame you for your confusion 😂 It comes across much clearer in the console and PC port of Ultimate Spider-Man
The DS version of Spider-Man edge of time had villains like arcade 2099, big wheel and overdrive. that you don’t fight on the Nintendo 3ds and other consoles just miss opportunities
It's so weird how the PSP version of Spider-Man 2 plays basically like the console version of Spider-Man 1 and the PSP version of Spider-Man 3 plays like the console version of Spider-Man 2
wait... were you not aware that you can consume enemies to regain health with Venom in Ultimate Spider-man DS? it doesnt just have to be civilians. and you can grab enemies with guns from across the screen with the touch screen and then bring them in for consuming. not to say its especially super fun, but just to point out it wasn't that hard as long as you ate enemies as you went along with venom in his levels
20:43 I know why, its because in order to get to some missions you have to do side missions based on the current objective in the game, for example if you need to get to kraven you need to do side missions with the kraven gang icon
I remember having Spider Man Edge of Time on DS, I only brought it like less than 10 years ago second hand..... I still remember nothing from it besides being annoyed at the final boss
It´s sad to see how The Wii used just the PSP version of some of this games. Edge of Time and The Amazing Spider-man. Now the graphics were a little sharper for EOT but still similar. Luckily Shattred Dimension was just like the other console version with lower graphics but some of them did´t suffer being made for The Wii. But TASM on Wii is just bad, they did go for only the levels, no free roaming so it´s the minimal of how you can play that game. Oh well.
Edge of time ds had some glaring issues but i still enjoyed it thoroughly, i never got to experiecne the 3ds version but i might get it later Its just a port of the console game all the way from fighting antivenom at the start to the very end
It's funny how you say Edge of Time on 3DS just felt like a console game, cause they somehow DID just straight-up backport the console release to the 3DS. I have no fricking clue how they managed it, but dang it's cool lol. Also Shattered Dimensions on DS is one of my favorites, great game there. I never knew Web of Shadows on DS was actually by the same studio, I might have to check that out now.
I actually thought web of shadows on PSP was really good when I was a kid, replayed it recently and it’s not that bad guys, remember that the PSP was made for dumbed down games, the 3DS was a little more advanced at the time, but don’t knock that one till you try it guys.
I actually enjoyed ultimate Spider-Man on GBA and ps2. I didn’t know it was on ds. And edge of time I heard was good but never got to play it. Shattered dimensions is still my favorite but I only got it on pc which can crash at times. But these games are what some of us grew up with🤷♂️ technology came a long way 💯
Was watching along until I went to subscribe and I noticed you had just under 5000 subs. I assumed you would have had ten times that. Great video, can't wait to watch the rest of your stuff.
That 3DS version of Edge of Time is actually a straight port of the Wii game, same with the PSP version of Spider-Man 3 being a port of the PS2 version and the Vita version of Amazing Spider Man being a port of the PS3 version (the 3DS version is mostly a port too but lacks the free roam)
Based off what I’ve seen in the video. Spider-Man 2 for PSP is literally just Spider-Man 1 but on PSP. The same locations, same boss fights, even same menu. Just changed to be the same story as Spider-Man 2.
I remembered one time, during one of my replays of the Green Goblin fight in SpiderMan 3 on DS (I think it was him), he just stopped flying and kneeled at the floor. I then got behind him and punched him endlessly, winning easily. I tried for a good while to replicate it, but no dice.
fun fact:octavious fusion presentation and the ending cutscenes where from the original ps2 while the others are orignal... you can tell that the models in these 2 cutscene resemble the actors while the psp not so much. but hey the psp version got jk simmons voice instad of the orignal ps2....idk why they did'nt use jk voice on jameson
I played friend or foe on console when I was a kid. I really liked it. I was a kid though so it was probably the novelty of being able to choose whichever villain I wanted to play as.
as a kid i only had the ds ultimate game, and i think you’re playing venom wrong man, you can shoot a tendril out and drain the life out of people, civilian or enemy. overall idk if it’s nostalgia or not but i kinda like the game idk
On the bright side, we live in a time where technology is advanced enough to have PS2 games on our phones as long as your phone is powerful enough, of course. An Xbox 360 and PS3 more modernized portable would be pretty cool.
In Ultimate Spider-Man you're supposed to eat enemies using the touch screen, and you actually feel pretty strong while doing so. But of course, since you're pirating this game via emulation, that couldn't become apparent.
I had Spider-Man edge of time on DS as a kid and I knew it was a horrible game when I was little. I remember that I couldn’t get though the first level.
i find it hilarious you bring up how the tasm2 3ds game looks like an app because the actual tasm 2 app is honestly pretty fun and imo the best game based off the movie, it was even the first role for the current insomniac va yuri lowenthall lmao

A very underrated game is Ultimate Spider-man on the GBA. It is essentially just the ds game but it is actually fun. Plays better, combat is better, and venom actually feels strong. It's a shame no one talks about it
I haven't played most of the games covered in this video, with the only exception being 'Friend or Foe' on the Nintendo DS, which my brother got for Christmas alongside our own individual DSlites. I barely made any progress, so I guess I didn't enjoy it. However, I will say that 'Spider-Man 3' on the PSP & 'The Amazing Spider-Man' on the 3DS look almost identical to their console counterparts (which I owned on the Wii & WiiU).
Clicked on this because I remembered a portable Spidey game I had fairly fondly, but didn't remember which one it was. Thanks to you, I remembered it was Shattered Dimensions on DS. The validation of it being good kinda made my day! And yes, transporting the tablet between dimensions was annoying.
As much as I appreciate someone shining a light on these games, it is so frustrating that you never beat or even take the time to learn the mechanics
I like how Spiderman 2 on the PSP has the same gameplay as Spider-Man 1 on the GameCube and PS2 ports
Don't forget Xbox.
Its crazy to think that the first 2 MCU Spider-Man villains were in the Toby Maguire Spider-Man 2 game

They’re not the first two but I know what you’re trying to say and yes it is indeed amazing.
Not now babe, Cam Reviews just dropped.
A note on the performance of Ultimate Spider Man: on ds , it runs at a very smooth 60fps
Goblin also is an actual mutated monster in the Ultimate universe, but his character model is so low poly that i dont blame you for your confusion 😂 It comes across much clearer in the console and PC port of Ultimate Spider-Man
Prequel actually. Not sequel.
Yeah it was clear he didn't read the instructions you'd get at either side of the screen.

I know why, its because in order to get to some missions you have to do side missions based on the current objective in the game, for example if you need to get to kraven you need to do side missions with the kraven gang icon
I remember having Spider Man Edge of Time on DS, I only brought it like less than 10 years ago second hand..... I still remember nothing from it besides being annoyed at the final boss
In my experience Ultimate Spider-Man is by far the best Spider-Man game on the GBA/DS. They were the most pleasant parts of my videos lol
I had the DS version of TASM1 and 3DS version of TASM2 and i liked them as a kid. I found them to be fun beat em ups
Yeh it sucks playing these as an adult. You just notice all the flaws
@@CamReviewsunless you actually grew up with them. To this day I still play friend or foe even tho it’s the worst out all of them because childhood.
Excellent video and much appreciated never knew the 3DS version of Edge of Time is that lit 🔥 definitely playing that for the movie hype 😁
Oh well.
shoutout to the GBA port of Spider-Man 2 with 3D free roam web swinging
Friend or Foe on DS looks like a game that was trying to be something else and they just slapped the Spider-Man license on it
Wait hold onn..
Is Battle For New York a Sequel to NDS Ultimate??
I never heard of it!
It's a prequel actually
Edge of time ds had some glaring issues but i still enjoyed it thoroughly, i never got to experiecne the 3ds version but i might get it later
Its just a port of the console game all the way from fighting antivenom at the start to the very end
Wonderfully put together video. I was looking for a handheld review video like this for Spidey games and this is a great one.
Cannot wait for Harry Potter on DS and PSP [insert one-line here]
It's funny how you say Edge of Time on 3DS just felt like a console game, cause they somehow DID just straight-up backport the console release to the 3DS. I have no fricking clue how they managed it, but dang it's cool lol.
Also Shattered Dimensions on DS is one of my favorites, great game there. I never knew Web of Shadows on DS was actually by the same studio, I might have to check that out now.
GOOD TO SEE YOU BACK❤❤❤❤
:))
I actually thought web of shadows on PSP was really good when I was a kid, replayed it recently and it’s not that bad guys, remember that the PSP was made for dumbed down games, the 3DS was a little more advanced at the time, but don’t knock that one till you try it guys.
The green goblin in battle for new york is ultimate green goblin
6:08 I don't remember Spider-Man going to Egypt in any if the movies
I've played spiderman shattered dimensions and spiderman edge of time (both DS and 3DS) when I was a kid I loved both of them!
You should have covered the 3DS games as well!
Wait, you did! Nevermind me then....
channel and video got recommended.
great and fun retrospective.
Thank you:)
@@CamReviews went through all of your Lego on handheld videos, definitely subscribed, keep up the amazing work dude
"Edge of Time feels like a console game on th 3DS".
It basically is. It's 1:1 the same game from X360/PS3. Also Wii.
Ultimate Spider-Man is based from a famous comic, Ultimate Spider-Man lmao, so that's why the art director is so comic based
I actually enjoyed ultimate Spider-Man on GBA and ps2. I didn’t know it was on ds. And edge of time I heard was good but never got to play it. Shattered dimensions is still my favorite but I only got it on pc which can crash at times. But these games are what some of us grew up with🤷♂️ technology came a long way 💯
How lucky i was as a kid that when my mother brought me to walmart to buy a DS spiderman game, the one I chose was web of shadows
Griptonite Games was really the GOAT for the DS versions of Web of Shadows and Shattered Dimensions
SM2 on PSP was a game I always wanted as a kid. It was like the old ps1 games. Years later, I tracked down a copy... I was disappointed lol
I played friend or foe on console when I was a kid. I really liked it. I was a kid though so it was probably the novelty of being able to choose whichever villain I wanted to play as.
Yea watching Spiderman and venom fight together was my main goal. God I miss that game😔
as a kid i only had the ds ultimate game, and i think you’re playing venom wrong man, you can shoot a tendril out and drain the life out of people, civilian or enemy. overall idk if it’s nostalgia or not but i kinda like the game idk
ultimate spider-man on pc is my favorite spiderman game, they did it dirty on the ds
Battle for New York does suck tho.
And Edge of Time DS sucks even harder!
I dunno, I get this feeling he didn't put a ton of effort into playing the games
hi, owner of the game on original hardware here
venom eating people sucks on ds too
@cryguy0000 I don't even think he knew anything about the majority of the games
Spider-Man shattered dimensions on ps3,Nintendo wii,Nintendo DS was fire and incredible experience I wish to re-experience this game on DS
I had Spider-Man edge of time on DS as a kid and I knew it was a horrible game when I was little. I remember that I couldn’t get though the first level.
Omg I got hit by a nostalgia bomb when I heard the Spider-Man 2 DS music. I think that was my first ever Spider-Man game.
Spiderman 3 on PSP was my childhood
i find it hilarious you bring up how the tasm2 3ds game looks like an app because the actual tasm 2 app is honestly pretty fun and imo the best game based off the movie, it was even the first role for the current insomniac va yuri lowenthall lmao
The PS3 version of Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions is goated
Nice people said that spider man edge of time is the worst game ever made I don't know why. The amazing spider man 3ds was my childhood I played when I was in middle school
It always took me a small while to do the minigame, but somehow I didn't have as much trouble with it as you did. I think I actually beat the game? It's been a while, so I don't quite remember.
Imma keep it a buck. I had trouble with the final one that transports you to the Super Mysterio dimension
I know my comment womt mean much but straight up dude live this watch it twice keep going brother from one youtuber to another
Great video you should do pirates of the Caribbean games for PSP and ds
