So wait, you took Kanae & Leo in 2022 and forgot me? Honestly, this is a huge oversight! I haven't been there since 2020 when I live streamed walking through the town.
Oh right, I remember that episode in 2020 with Kanae! th-cam.com/video/SGWOhiaEKa0/w-d-xo.html Yeah, sorry about that, snuck away this year - no live streaming at Ginzan. Hey, I like your 8K releases. Perhaps you have some footage you can show walking the town at night or something?
I'm very sure we saw you (past John?) in the video that future (present?) John edited. I bet between the two (one?) of you there was more than enough material to edit.
Well they did take a lot of inspiration from existing locations for their movies, the bathhouse from Spirited Away was based off the Dogo Onsen in Matsuyama
John, you are by far one of my favorite YoutTubers, you look so happy reporting on things in Japan that many of us may never get the chance to experience ourselves, but it's great to see through your lens. Please keep up the great work, your content is by far some of the most entertaining as well as educational!
"My legs like oden. Coming out of the hot soup". You really did look a little well done there. 😂😂🤣 It really doesn't get more picturesque than seeing this onsen village at night. Truly a beautiful and magical place. Great to see the whole family really enjoying the experience!😊
Always a treat to see lovely Kanae and sweet Leo. I thought this place looked magical but then you showed it at night that just made it even more so. I love that it hasn't changed the old world look. That makes it so much more interesting. Would love to go there someday. Thanks for the tour of this wonderful place.😊
I've been wondering for a long time why it isn't you anymore in the old TH-cam channel. FINALLY I've found YOUR channel and I am so happy. Watching the "old TH-cam channel" host vs You is totally different. Your vibe, the emotions you put in and the content is pure LOVE. Your love to the amazing country- JAPAN. Keep it up John! Fan from Philippines! ♥
I'm just amazed at how much beauty and all the history there is in this country. It just seems such a magical place. I think that Japan is a blessed place as any there is I'm so grateful to you and all who share all this with the rest of the world thank you so much .
I really needed to watch this documentary this morning. I wasn't feeling great but this was like being there and helped lift my spirits and get motivated for the day. Thank you!
I really like the live streams as well as the edited videos and narrating you do John; it's informative, interesting, direct and sincere. You've got the essence of cinematography in your presentations/delivery, that I believe has been diminishing in the United States. Japan is lucky to have your skills and creativity! Thanks for sharing. 🍱🍣🥢🍻
Well done John! Thoroughly enjoyable and informative! So lovely to see Kanae and your beautiful son as well! Keep up all the great work and content! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻☺️
A dazzling winter wonderland captured perfectly by you, John!!! 🤩 It's not just a walking around the town video but one with depth - the appreciation of Ginzan Onsen History & Japan's Ryokan Culture! I loved my visit in Summer but the onsen town truly looks magical with snow. Defintely need another trip there. Enjoyed eating tofu by the river, curry bread at the end of the town & soba ice cream 🤤 And the highlight for me was a smiley Little Leo having his first covered toes Ashiyu 🤣
Informational and interesting video 🙂!! Pretty village at day and the night !! Surely refreshing ”wake up” for the morning , to have a hot onsen bath 🤔!! Enjoyable video , thank you for sharing 👍!!!
I was getting fed up of the usual walk around Tokyo TH-cam videos but stumbled across your videos. I like this style way better with the commentary explaining things a lot more clearly and the maker not just hiding behind his camera. 👍👍👍👍👍 5/5 thumbs up.
Beautiful winter footage was captured here. The charm of these little Ryokan's under the warm Taishō era street light is unmatched. This was one of your best, John-san!
Thank you again for bringing this beautiful place to us. Looks like a great place to relax I was great seeing Kanae and Leo. Please take care and be safe. Aloha
I was enthralled by this video. How wonderful and healthy everything is, the baths and the food. Your wife and yourself are glowing and your little boy is just adorable. I loved everything about the onsen's. Maybe I'll get there one day. I love Japanese architecture and lovely old houses, so picturesque.
What a beautiful place. I would love soak in the hot springs after long day. Even foot bath will after walking around. It was nice to see Kanae and Leo with you.
50 degrees? Thats half way to the boiling point! You did right getting out quickly. A few second more, and a brother or sister for Leo would be out of the question! 😉 Thanks Mr Daub. Brilliant as always!
For folks in Asia of a certain age, they know of Ginzan Onsen from "Oshin", my mom was wondering what town this was until you mentioned the show. Those baths looked dangerous, getting poached in a 50 deg C bath would probably be for the unwary. Nice supporting camera work from Kanae and nice to see Leo not hating tofu.
So beautiful with the snow! It must have been so cold. I didn't know ryokon charged per person for a room. Good to remember if I'm ever able to go to Japan. The town at night reminds me of Spirited Away.
It's fantastic seeing you produce so much content as of late and all of it with the fantastic pacing, interesting topics and a smile on your face. Missed this.
There is something inviting yet other-worldly about such a place. To find myself with a book on a balcony after a soak and a meal... I'd be okay if that was the last vacation I ever took. Great vid, John.
Came to see this one again after your newest video with the snow monkeys. This episode always makes me happy. The village is so lovely and you and your family are so fun to watch. Thank you for sharing this adventure with us.
I have only been watching your channel a short while, just want to say, though your filming and factual information, I have grown to love the country of Japan. I am hooked, and so looking forward to learnng more from your channel! Thankyou John 🙂
Great video John. Having been to a few hotels with hot water baths in Japan (not onsens, sadly), I think there's a trick in how to get into a very hot water bath/onsen that is over 40 degrees C: First take a small bucket, or just the palm of your hands, and sprinkle some hot water over your body, this creates an insulating layer of lukewarm water over your body, this layer would allow you to dip in more smoothly without feeling like you're being scalded, as the layer acts as a sort of transition. Instead of just jumping in dry in your cold body. Second, and I'm not sure how scientific this is, but I read somewhere that as heat escapes more easily from the palms of your hand than from any part of the body, so if you place your palms just above the water while dipping, you wouldn't feel too hot while inside.
Great Video, I love the info about how Ryokan charge, I wouldnt want a western style room like the single ones you showed. I would want the genuine experience. Lovely to see Kanae and Rio
Another EXELLENT, PROFESSIONAL and INFORMATIVE video John! A beautiful place! Some where I would definitely visit. Great to see you with the family. 👍❤

The opening scene is just beautiful, it does look like a Ghibli movie!!

I had the same thought, Spirited away. :D I hope one day I can visit this place. ;)
I agree what a beautiful intro
It looks like the setting for episode 14 of miss kobyashi dragon maid
How beautiful! When I picture Japan in the wintertime, this location is exactly what I imagine. And it was lovely seeing the family as well.
