- Japan's last remote frontier is East Hokkaido is where less than 0.1% of tourists will ever visit. It's between Kushiro and Nemuro north to Rausu and Shiretoko National Park. Basically zero international tourists come - but we did! So - what's out here? Wild animals, amazing scenery, onsen hot springs, sea and mountains, friendly people who have never seen foreign tourists before! Oh, and the food is amazing!
With a Japanese RV Camper - the Robinson 106 - we set out for the great unknown. Join @PetervonGommJAPAN and I on a road trip adventure sho winging off Hokkaido's most spectacular places you'll want to visit!
Where'd we stop?
Obihiro - Nemuro - Cape Nosappu, Japan's Easternmost Point - Rausu - Shiretoko National Park - Teshikaga - Lake Mashu & Lake Akan - Ainu Kotan - Ashoro - Aoike Blue Pond, Biei - Furano Lavender - Yubari Melon Town and back to New Chitose Airport for the flight back to Tokyo.

I really enjoyed part 1!! CONGRATS on getting the motorcycle license!! 👏👏
Great decision to break this massive trip up into two parts! Each unique aspect of both really shines that way.
Hello. Where are your old videos? What happen??
I demand to see your bathing suit! Nice trip, even the bears are well-behaved in Japan :)
I did a similar route through East Hokkaido back in May, was absolutely spectacular. Would recommend to anyone looking for something off the beaten path.
Any chance you could share that route? I'm looking for ideas ;)
Thank you John and Peter for sharing this brilliant adventure, I absolutely loved this 2 part series. There is so much beauty in this part of the world that I one day hope to see for myself in person. I remember your winter livestream from Lake Akan 3 years ago and it was great to see it in a different season. There are so many highlights that you packed into this video but a particular one for me was seeing your return meeting with Melon Kuma, looks like you have a friend for life in him John. Excellent work gentleman, excellent. Best wishes to you both and your families.
A perfect RV adventure video complete with wild onsen ♨️ and roaming bears 🐻🐻🐻. Love it.
Thank you JOHN and PETER for sharing. Your trip in Eastern part of Hokkaido was so so amazing!!!
Love the topics you cover in your videos that other people don’t always cover! I love it!
I was fortunate to be US diplomat in Hokkaido many years ago. It is such a wonderful place.
This was a terrific video - a great trip to some wonderful, quiet places - I want to visit Hokkaido!!! I like your slow pace.
I was born in Nemuro and am so proud about your special trip movie.
So nostalgic nature scape for me.
Great adventure John and Peter. Thanks so much for sharing with us. Next time, feature Kushiro. It's a lovely seaside town and seafood to die for.
Another great video, John! Looks like you and Peter had an amazing trip!
Thoroughly enjoyed the video John. You guys did a great job. Loved the waterfalls and the wildlife.
Always a treat to see this duo. I am going to Hokkaido next year, so can't wait to check out some of the spots covered in this series.
Love the video John and PvG!
The quality of the roadside station's foods is unbelievable 😋
Hi John. I was really looking forward to this video especially after seeing this on livestream. It was awesome to watch you and Peter on this adventure. Perfectly done my friend.
Such a fun adventure, I caught myself smiling at so many parts through the trip. Thank you for sharing another road trip.
Thanks for sharing. I love this video and enjoyed the adventure with you guys.
Another great video, John & Peter! I recall watching the lives and really enjoying it. Great to see it all edited together. 😀
amazing video.
Great editing, great shots and it made me want to visit those places. Hopefully I can one day.
Great video john, now the hokaido adventure become my fave episodes in this channel 👍👍👍
I'm hooked on this journey. Love your journies with PVG.
Keep up the great adventures.
Long time fan since your other channel.
Thank you John and Peter for taking us along on your adventure! I can't wait for the next video! And also, I think that this is not the last that we have seen of melonkuma! Melon! Melon! Melon! 🍈🍈🍈
Thank you for coming to Hokkaido! This video is great for letting know about Hokkaido to my friends who lives other countries.
Love part 2 also very interesting vid guys!!!! Was excited to see what was next as the vid went on!!
Great foods great views DRONE shots!!!! 👌🏻
The Shiretoko national park bathe looked so relaxing!!!! Great outdoors!!! 👍🏻
Top vid guys!!
Shinzo Abe! 🙏🏼
Beautiful- you even got the high-five freeze frame at the end like the credits of an 80's movie. Definitely worth the wait for the re-upload. Thanks again, John.
Awesome video! I can tell you have put lots of time into editing and thank you for sharing!
This is a first class video. Well done. Thanks for the hard work.
Beautiful nature but most of the people hasn’t heard about those places i guess 🤔Although you guys had a great road trip😎Thank you John and Peter🙂👍!!!
The amount of effort just to get a simple overhead shot by a drone, or even the beginning shot of leaving the starting point (and you need to retrieve the camera), wow it's incredible. Japan is definitely on my bucket list, I really want to go there for the views, the food, the travel experience by train as well. It's soo cozy and wonderful watching this.
This was awesome, great video, thank you!
really enjoyed this journey! thanks for the content
i really want to go japan. thanks for the trip john & peter 😍
what an amazing series. I could spend hours watching content like this, keep it coming !
Your production quality is insanely high. You are the man. Im glad I found your channel again.
Awesome video and series, would love the snow version of this, greetings from Spain 😊😊
Hey Glad its in TH-cam 😊🙏🏼. It’s best work for John and Peter.
Honestly was this just shot by you John? Cause if so, youre getting REALLY good with some of those drone shots. Tbh the cinematography all the way around just keeps improving with you and thats saying something since you have arguably the best produced indie channel on YT. I probably will never get to travel this area of the world so thank you bringing us all along on thjs adventure!
We had backing for a lot of people and we both wanted to do a good job for them. Filming sometimes takes the fun out of traveling - but we balanced it well. Can’t forget it’s about having fun, exploring and experiencing new things, the Hokkaido way! I really appreciate the kind comment and will always strive to keep videos super entertaining and informative.
Wonderful, i remember watching the live stream from nemuro with the rv! Glad to see this final version!
Awesome adventure! you got it all, bears fox melon monster and a lovely nature onsen. I love it.
Great sharing! 👍❤️❤️❤️❤️
Excellent video thanks for sharing.
Awesome tour of hokaido’s never reach by tourist , thnx for vlogging these places. 👍👍👍
that was awesome.thank you John and PvG💪
Excellent John & Peter. Thank you for showing us a "...road less travelled" experience of Japan. In some ways, a more appealing destination than the more dense & crowded Japanese tourist locations.
It's saturday morning and you guys put up the second part of your bike and RV adventure. Can't wait til tonight 😊
Amazing. Looks so fun.
Thanks for this video , you should do more videos like this . This is so special and interesting , so good to learn more about Japan
I usually do a big project like this every year, recently with fireworks - staring in 2017 when I hitchhiked all of Japan. First road trip video was in 2003 and bicycled Tokyo to Kyoto along the Old Tokaido Route in 2005, before TH-cam 😉 there will be more, of course! Thank you 🙏
John's long form videos are always worth the wait!!!!
For real, you can really tell why he used to work in television on NHK World.
Wow. What an adventurous road trip! It's making me want to go to Japan even more. I never thought you could rent an RV! It's one of my bucket lists and hopefully, I could do it someday. Thank you for sharing these beautiful sceneries. God bless!
Definitely give it a go! Easy driving in Hokkaido with the wide open roads. Japan CRC is a pretty good company to rent from - easy in, easy out. Let me know how it goes when you do it someday :)
@@onlyinjapan I will! But I'll watch your videos for now coz it feels like I'm already on a Japan tour!
Loved this Hokkaido project. Got to see parts of Japan other travel shows don't usually go to
Wonderful work! Beautiful place. ✌️
Again any video with the two friends is a keeper!
That camping van is so great. Hokkaido is a dream.
Wow, you really broke through with this production. Keep this sort of fast paced stuff up. Congratulations.
Awesome job John .
Really lovely, thanks for sharing :D
You got fresh Hanasaki Kani! The best crab in the world! So jealous. I really love this road trip adventure. Thanks, John!
It was so good, flavored perfectly - tender. So cheap in Nemuro from a convenient store! Taie-san’s store is pretty special, I’ll be back to see his family again too. Thanks Gil!
@@onlyinjapan When we visited the fish market in Hakodate our host pointed out the tub of Hanasaki Crab commenting that it was his favorite. Coming from Alaska I didn't think anything could best fresh Alaska King Crab. Definitely on my list of foods I want to try. Will be in Tokyo next month. Curious if the fish market there offers it and if it is in season in August.
Hey John and Peter, just watch both parts to your trip to Hokkaido. You guys have so much fun and a really fantastic time and adventures together, just wanted to say that my family and I just greatly appreciate all that you do with your travels and all the hard work you put into giving us and taking us to places in Japan that we mostly likely won’t get to!
Thank you very much.
Thank you for sharing the adventure with the family! We both appreciate it :)
Hey guys I just stumbled across your site and I must say I am sSO impressed! I subscribed. Looking forward to view more videos
景色も食も両方楽しめる北海道はいいですね。ミルク飲んでみたい🥛
Putting this place on my bucket list! Love the hot cascading river to a not too hot pool.
Beautiful scenery!
loved Peter and your adventures. always can count on it making me laugh and smile.
Man, I remember the live updates from you two traveling. This was a blast to watch and makes me want to plan my own road trip next I'm in Japan! Bro trip!
Going to Visit Shiretoko Tomorrow! Thanks for the initial inspiration
Don't ever stop doin what you do...guy's... Fantastic video
When we took trip to Eastern Hokkaido from late July to early August, it was 35℃ in Tokyo and 16℃ in Kushiro in daytime, it even got lower like 10℃ at night. We thought Hokkaido is cooler than Tokyo, but never imagined that cold‼️ It was around 25℃ in Sapporo, so we only took summer clothes but we had to buy jackets in Kushiro. The hotel we stayed used heater at night and a/c was not necessary at all. If you’d like to escape from hot, humid summer in other parts of Japan, this is the place to go❗️😄
It's been a long while since I've watched any of your videos, John. Thought that I'd start here. Really enjoyed this video. Now onward to the videos that I've missed and go back to some that I really enjoy watching, like any that have to do with the Sapporo Snow Festival.
Amazing video👍
Thanks for your sharing
Great video!
Thanks for showing People Hokkaido!
i have a tremendous amount of love for this place and im always a bit sad people only come for the snow festival if even at all
thank you !
Really like 👍 this easygoing, natural travel documentary style. 😊
This one deserves a like outright!
Hokkaido is amazingly beautiful. Thanks for sharing this part of Japan with us. P. S. Your music cues fit perfectly with the video.
Amazing journey please more videos like this. 🙏🥰
Great tourist selfies!
I love this part of Japan, it reminded me of England in some ways. Beautiful scenery, especially in Spring, with the Cherry Blossom in Sapporo.
Glad I caught this video in time for my trip to Hokkaido this coming August! I will be sure to pack a jacket now that I've seen what Hokkaido can throw at you - even in midsummer while the rest of Japan swelters in relentless heat and humidity!
Great work from everyone involved. You guys are a great team. I think you've found a good way to produce feature length Only in Japan content. Thank you.
This was a special set, I’m glad this has been enjoyed by so many! I try to do a big project every year - the year before was fireworks!
Great Video
39:26 - Peter's dog-tag give me feeling that it was not only recreational trip, but reconnaissance mission for finding proper place for secret military base. :)
Peter’s also on reconnaissance for good and girls 😂 his father was in the army and let’s ask him about it next time we’re live.
Yezzir! 🤭 btw that dog tag is a way for me to bring my Dad along with me on travels and for moral support in the studio. (WW2 vet) 😍
@@PetervonGommJAPAN yeah, their war stories definitely deserves wider sharing. Because when people starts to forget the stories, price and pain of war, new big war comes (we in Ukraine know it since 2014 and especially since February 24, 2022).
❤ made me want to travel via camper van too! I enjoyed it so much, i did not realize i was already at the end of the video! It was that awesome!
nice a road trip with the boys!
This was a really great video, loved the part with the bear family on the road 😊
So envious of you finding those bears!
So entertaining. Your facials John are classic. All the wildlife you got to see.
There is wonderful snow there in the winter and truly great skiing. You can get around Japan, including from Sapporo to Tokyo by ocean-going ferry boat
This video you did it really well.
At the beginning telling your destinations.
Different cameras and with the drone above the sky seeing the trailer.
Driving and the view around the car and inside the car, is it the 360° camera?
I liked it👍
Yes, we had 7 different cameras so we never missed a shot 😂 like falling on a motorcycle or the police coming, bears crossing the road or unusually highway attractions. Glad you liked it!
This is so cool!
This tours shows that a side island can be just as interesting as the big mainland and i am sure we have not seen it all!
What an adventure!!!
loved it!
Great trip You make me inspired
Great video , it’s funny I was thinking about why no one goes to Hokkaido a few days ago, and then these videos pop up on my feed. I think people stay on the golden route because it’s easier to manage as being foreigners in Japan and not knowing the language. Not to mention lots of places require car to get to, and we foreigners can’t exactly read Japanese road signs off the plane. Haha.
I understand why the Golden Route is so popular, there’s a lot of culture and sights and as humans, we want to share and imitate. But I do hope people venture off the trail at least once or in their second visit. Places like Hokkaido are so worth it, esp in summer when Kyoto is like a sauna, hot and humid. It’s amazing up north!
Very entertaining guys ❤❤❤
Wonderful
I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED BOTH PARTS !
素敵な動画有難う!
That was such an adventure.
