I disagree on the 'movement' speed comments. The slow movement speed is actually what makes the character & game appear cinematic. He walked at a reasonable pace like a human engineer. If the character ran around the environment like Aloy from Horizon then the game environment would have seemed tiny and the character would look fake. Remember that the characters are in space suits. If Characters move slow then games can be made look more realistic. It's like an alternative to RPG. Walking slow around a small space station makes it seem bigger. If I could sprint across it in 60 seconds then the I'd need to be a super hero or someone like that

I played this on PC. !!!Spoilers Ahead!!! Before I go on to criticize the experience, I want to acknowledge how truly amazing it is that this was created by a team of only 20 people. That said, the game suffers from multiple flaws that could easily have been remedied. First of all - WALKING SPEED. I can forgive clunky movement, but the walking speed in this game is CRIMINAL. I'm assuming this was a design choice meant to slow the player down (since it's a very short game) while adding an element of suspense. In effect, all this does is make exploration extremely tedious. I wanted to explore the beautiful environment, but instead found myself heading straight for objectives because of how slow I walked. A brief walk across the room to look at an interesting desk could take up to a minute or more of simply walking. Additionally, there is no inspect option, which is a shame because they created such a detailed and atmospheric environment. Adding an inspect/zoom-in option would have significantly slowed down the pace of play and made movement feel much less clunky. I bet I would have added at least 40 - 60 minutes to my playtime if an inspect option was added. The quality of the map further compounds this slow movement speed issue. My player location never showed up accurately on the map. I'd find my "current position" marker, walk a few meters, and the marker wouldn't change position. This made it incredibly difficult to plot a course. There were times when I walked for 20 minutes just to figure out where I was in relation to other buildings/objectives. I'll say one last thing about the movement speed. Whenever I play a game that locks me into walking speed, I can't help but sigh. It has to be one of the laziest forms of game development at the expense of player enjoyment. There are so many other techniques to lengthen playtime if your game is short. One that comes to mind immediately is backtracking. This would have been especially useful as this game utilizes keycards. You bet your ass I'm coming back to that LVL 5 room once I get the keycard access. Graphically, the game is beautiful. The A+ quality of facial animations, combined with top notch voice acting, create an incredibly cinematic experience. This is where the game shines. The graphics and voice acting both contribute to the narrative power of the game. However, this narrative or storytelling aspect of the game is also hampered. I played every voice recording and watched every video in the game, and I'm still not sure I fully understand the story. As far as I can tell, Helen was trying to cultivate plants on Solis and her growth formula was causing aggressive behavior and tremors in her colleagues. I THINK that's what was going on?!? To be honest, I'm not entirely sure if that's the complete picture - the game doesn't really do a good job of explaining the story. I found myself kind of confused. Why was no one listening to the complaints? Why did he feel like he had to kill everyone? Who knows!?! I also found the button prompts for combat scenes happened WAYYYY to quickly. I think I missed like 90% of the button prompts, which SHOULD have been an issue, except I'm pretty sure you could miss every single prompt and it wouldn't effect the story in any way. This is a BIG flaw. Why add a mechanic if it's essentially useless? I understand this game wasn't meant to have multiple narrative pathways, but making button prompts matter could have significantly impacted the game. For example, if I hit every correct button prompt, let me save Jessica. Overall, I enjoyed the game, but I thought it really suffered from these mistakes.
Walking Sim games were a mistake. If you want a "cinematic" experience at least add some gameplay mechanics like choices and paths (like Until Dawn) or add some puzzles and dialog trees (like Telltale games). DOn't just waste time with walking.
but what is the game about? Is it scfi horror? Is it scfi mystery? Is it a scfi zombie or ghost game? Thriller tells me nothing other than atmospheric mood - lol. Ty.

Setting aside the visual quality, which is fantastic, the story ends up being vague and hollow. You never confirm that either the Doctor or Botanist is wrong or right. What the player is left with is two maybe murderers and two maybe hero's. Not... that... impresive. I'd be happy to die, if it meant saving the world. I'd be happy to take a life, IF it meant saving the world. What we are all left with is a big dud, nothing. Vague insinuations and hints, nothing more. Was the Doctor doing the right thing ultimately? Don't know. Was the Botanist able to sort out the problem and come through with a solution, the reason she fought so hard to make it to the door when you find her? Don't know. I have seven words for players: dull, boring, and not worth your time. It's not worth mine, even as short as it is, at about three hours of game time. I think I'll pass and go play old-school Dead Space instead. I already own it and, it's way better for story. I can take lesser graphics quality if the story is that much better. At least after three games, two (I think) anime movies, and a massive fan base, Dead Space earned the right to end on an ominous, but vague, note. This game earns jack-squat, to play that kind of vague ending off.
I thought we were done with these "interactive" narrative experiences (I refuse to call them games). Why don't these people just make a movie or miniseries?

Man! The trailer was hype inducing, but it was the horror aspect which garnered my hype. That’s unfortunate; it still looks interesting.
Just played my 1 hour Trial. Liked it, but won't be splashing out the £25 asking price. Will play it again 'if and when' I cn get it for free or on sale.
Forced walking speed is a dumb way to make the game last longer. I won't be buying it any time soon.
Have no idea what this guy played it on BUT if you are on pc DO NOT PURCHASE or wait until the problems are addressed as it's pretty much a shitshow. In its current state the game is unoptimized with low framerates and constant crashes even on ok hardware I9 13900K using a 4080. If he said he ran into no real technical issues it was on a PS5 or just straight up full of crap TBH. Since this really has no gameplay to speak of, I would just suggest that you watch a playthrough on TH-cam and save yourself the money.
That's a shame. Too many games these days are not optimized.
Another modern boring soulless game, where most of what u do is walk around. The modern popular DNA of modern games is not fun at all. Modern gameplay feels like doing chores to get to the next long cutscene or dialogue. They dont invoke any desire to touch them again after completion. Literally one and done, and they aint even fun...smh 😩
Perfect example of why graphics and technology advancement are not everything. Man this game looks sooooo boring.
No base building?
This looks like a masterpiece.
How long is it?
3-4 hours
@@2genders-tk2ue ^
not at all ! it's 6/10
rtx 4090s will soon become 1440p GPUs when more of UT5 games start to roll out .. My rx6800 is burning with 99% GPU usage giving maybe 50fps avg on 1080p..
I had high hopes for this one , guess I’ll add it to calypso protocol in my list of sadness 😂
why not try it? not everything has to be a horror game i'll prolly get it at some point it looks fun so why the hell not?
Callisto is an amazing game you should try it defiantly better than this and for me also better than dead space played both multiple times Callisto is better in my eyes
@@Tonyballs_1Callisto is better? In what way?
@@BiggyJimbo for me Callisto had better gameplay overall graphics animations care and detail put into every part of the characters and the atmosphere, the music is wayyyy better and the story wasn’t really good in either of the games so that didn’t matter and for two games that are about the same length I’d pick Callisto over it for sure also the setting is better as well I think 👍
@@Tonyballs_1 is that a horror game ? I have heard of it but I've never played it
Walking taken to next level
Troy Baker (what will he bake?)
A very bad if non-existent optimization, along with Immortals of Aveum, this game needed more polish and work before the release, hope the patches will improve the situation
most games today aren’t finished on release
It appears to be an interesting game. According to the reviews , it has problems and some very poor reviews, too short is one of them.
And yet on Steam it has a lot of negative reviews.
Some of them are valid for the optimization. but the others are basically "walking sim bad"
That walk…. 🤠
Absolutly loving it. One od my favorite games is Horizon zero dawn and why i love it isnt the combat or robots. Its finding lore. I love lore games. Could play a whole game about uncovering mysteries and never get tired
crashed within first 10 mins. got a refund but will try it again after they fix it
Is this early access? As great as the setting is, the story seems to literally have no payoff. This is probably the most pointless game I've ever seen.
The fact that you can't run is this game is so irritating 😂😂😂😂
No 21:9 support - and it won't be patched either, as the developer announced today on Steam. Welcome to 2023 🤦♂
About to upload my review on TikTok and my experience with this game is the exact opposite. Most boring game of 2023. I hope others liked it a lot more than I did.
Because thats where people who take gaming serious are, on tiktok. Also "most boring" most of the time means "it went right over my head".
@@TheBigchekkayou sound like a condescending prick. “People who take gaming seriously” -wtf is that supposed to mean? By definition, gaming is not meant to be taken seriously. But hey, don’t let me stop you from putting other ppl down because of which social media platforms they use to review games.
Ah yes, Tiktok the premiere gaming review platform…
@@TheBigchekka every part of your comment is asinine 😂 I mean go watch my review at ThaGamingPastor and then go play the game and tell me I’m wrong 🤷♂️
@@PandaPulse4 I mean I make great gaming content on TikTok. A lot of good gaming creators over there now 🤷♂️
This what we have to play to see good graphics. Play a walking sim
Steam reviews looking pretty rough, my man... I'll wait till it's $10 or less.
Yuck. The gameplay reminds me of Death Stranding, and that is not a compliment.
This game legit made me fall asleep what a disaster of a game but to all my gamers out there who complain about game graphics this is a example of how that's useless
45 hours long is a brief experience
45 hours long? loll the game is 3-4 hrs long
Is this a horror game? Are there threats?
Seems like there aren't any.
@@GForceIntelbooooo urns. Pass. Thanks for telling me
it's dead space without the dead or fun
@@Efsaaneh lol
I can’t understand how people think this game is good it’s awful. Save the money and watch it on TH-cam 😊
Tbh the game is amazing but sad tho I like it lot amazing game
Troy baker is awesome.
Great premise and atmosphere awful execution the slow pace kills the game I got about half way through and realised the pace wasn’t going to pick up and switched off instead opting to search up the story on TH-cam
What a shit game this was played it last night and it was over after 2 hours lol
4 to 5 hours of game play. I think I'll just watch a playthrough on youtube
It’s better than Firewatch but not as good as Detroit: Become Human
It's so boring.
QTE the game.
Apparently the framerate is also "cinematic"
Getting tired of games that are chugging on 1000$+ GPUs.
Just 45 hours long? What a stupid thing to say
Seems more boring than compelling, imagine if this game was $70, jeez ehk aww man heartburn
a boring game 😅
looks like a great game something i would be interested in even though there is no combat but movement and movement speed and resposivness has to be there as well even if it is no more than a walking sim the movement has to be smooth not frustrating.
so i am going to check out some more videos but i think its a pass for me.
On 10700k@5GHz + RTX3090ti in 1080p runs at 55 fps. Another crappy release 😂
It is absolutely NOT engaging. It's a walking simulator. It was a massive letdown.
Sounds boring to me
It's a peace of shit that just looks good,
I think this game is just Showcase of ps5 tech nothing else
space horror is my favourite subgenre and i have played about 5000 games in my life and this game still was the most boring piece of shit of a game i have ever played.
I enjoyed it but those QTE were a bitch lol
