Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon Review - The Final Verdict
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 22 ส.ค. 2023
- Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon is the first mainline game in the franchise in 10 years, with developer FromSoftware looking to leverage its fame from the Souls franchise to bring the mech-based action game to a new generation of players. The game offers a unique structure, where players are encouraged to change up how their mech works on a regular basis, depending on just what kind of action any given mission will demand of them.
The game also tells its story in a unique way by giving players smaller glimpses at skirmishes happening all over its world, allowing players to draw their own conclusions about the motivations of the various factions that inhabit the world of Rubicon. Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon features a modern control scheme that makes handling your mech intuitive, while also featuring a smooth difficulty curve that ensures that you won’t really bite off more than you can chew too early in your career as a mercenary. - เกม
I just love how fromsoftware has hit its stride. They're just putting out quality product all the time. All while not nickel and diming their audience with dlc packs and microtransactions. They just understand gaming.
And the game is still 60 bucks on PS5. They easily could've charged 70 bucks like every other PS5 game now does, and nobody probably would've even cared. Fromsoftware truly deserves all of the adoration it gets
FromSoft is hands-on the most trusted studio in the industry. they have earned the respect, and have earned my pre-order money
That's what you get when the creative director is also the one who says where the money goes.
If creatives had all the power, this would be a standard in the industry.
@@JM-vl3cy It's a shame not all developers are also their own publishers. I do worry what will happen to From Software once they move to becoming a global publisher... and what will happen if they choose to take in other developers under their mantle...
They really are in a class of their own(or maybe a very select few) where they just don't release anything but great games but also don't nickel and dime the player as you mentioned.
An Armored Core game scoring a 9/10? Amazing~. I'm happy to see this day come.
It's mostly 7s and 8s. Only reason it got soo much hype because of devs behind it. Easy pass on this 👍
A 9/10 from a single reviewer… it currently has a metacritic score of 85% and might go down as more reviews come out.
@@rayromano6249the games getting mostly 8s which is still a good score
@@rayromano6249Let's be honest. You weren't planning on playing anyway and probably praying on its downfall since the reveal
@@rayromano6249 K. 👍
Gaming bolt reviews. Straight to the point, not overly long, tight edits. Good.
Far better than igns take on the story. Their one merely focuses on presentation, while this actually highlights the story itself
I found IGNs take on it to be pretty weird. It seems like it’s told exactly the same as every other AC game.
@@nathanmagnuson2589as someone who has gotten into the franchise by just going over each game on TH-cam, the thing i think reviewers miss is you have to be capable of thinking deeper than "I need this story told to me, uninterrupted, with emphasis on what I should care about." Dark Souls was literally that way and still got milked to death
How tf would you even know?
@@GeorgeZimmermen I didn’t know what the story was like from IGNs review. That’s my issue. They solely focus on the presentation while this one doesn’t.
@@nathanmagnuson2589 I found that the rest of their review was very well said, just the parts with the story were under developed
Was there ever any doubt this would turn out amazing? From Software is one of the best developers in the industry.
Yes there was doubt because armored core 4 and 5 weren’t good especially if you played the previous consoles games. The games looks great like always the actual gameplay and mechanics is what they been lacking
@@b.g.4353 4 and 4a was good tho
FromSoft is one of the only developers these days where we know their games are going to be good, its just a matter of how good
You lowered your expectations the moment you mentioned Fromsoftware. Stop being biased.
Depends on the context really.
4th Gen AC games were fun for what they are but the tempo felt like it diverted from that "chunky/ weighty" mech combat that the preceding ones established. Coupled with the console generation that it was played on hence framerate issues left and right, overall 4th gen felt like a miss both from a technical and vision/ identity perspective.
5th Gen tried to mend this but faced similar issues with performance shenanigans due to console technical limitations. This is discounting how dark/ muddy the visuals are in V/VD, the games get visually messy real quick, real often, moreso than the frantic 4th gen entries.
TLDR, 4th and 5th gen's quality were rather crapshoot, granted most of it were due to technical limitations & design/ aesthetic decisions that were "the style of the time".
Hope this game sells well, could use more dormant IPs from Bamco releasing.
bandai namco only publishes
@@MANTISxB But as a publisher, they decide if an IP gets more releases or not.
@@Kapitan_Sladekincorrect. FromSoftware is a completely independent developer. They even Publish their games themselves in Japan, Bandai is just a middle man for international releases. Bandai has 0 say on what FromSoftware decides to make and when. Hell when From decided to exclusively use Bandai internationally a decade ago they stipulated to Bandai thst they would have to publish Armored Core titles as well if they wanted to publish their other titles.
@@Kapitan_Sladeknot in this case. From owns armored core.
Armored Core is FROMSOFTWARE property. bandai help publish it for global audience
What a great review.
Loved how you covered every point in the game
Welcome (or welcome back) to the Armored Core community Ravens and other mech fans!
This is our moment to make the genre more popular.
I've played every single Armored Core game ever. And Im definitely not gonna miss out on this one. It's an entire different game very different from the previous games. Not saying totally. It just looks different.
I played on ps1 and forgot about the series. Saw the promo for this and IMMEDIATELY preordered
Yeah looks like they’re going back to original aspects and mechanics from ps2 and Xbox era
Are they hard do you think this one will be I loved souls for the purpose of getting destroyed brutally over and over then getting so good at the games to soul level 1 all of them think it’ll be the same of getting abused until you become amazing at it?
@@MintConsumerno. This game is get abused, rethink your build and strategy. In souls, you have no choice but to get good. In this, you can just straight up change your mech and have a way easier time. However, you can just stick to the same build the whole time and make it more difficult for yourself I guess
@@gektoast4968 good I’m going with the last option brute force sounds 10x more fun imo
This'll be my first AC game. I am eager to try it out and to see if Patches shows up in this one too
Filthy casual
I can confirm he was at least in Armored Core for Answer. Pretty fair bet he'll be here too.
@@GeorgeZimmermennot everyone is a vet bro
He showed up in one of them, so it's possible
He showed in a few of them actually. I wouldn't be surprised if they brought him & the moonlight greatsword back
Thank you FromSoft for making this an “on-ramp” installment of AC. Really looking forward to my first AC game.
Pretty much any of the games whose titles end in a number are "good on-ramps".
What does on ramp means?
@@Dracobyte it means you don’t need knowledge of prior installments to enjoy the story the current installment is telling.
@@mallow2902 this is true to some degree. I will say that someone who play Borderlands 1 and 2 will enjoy Borderland Pre-sequel more than an individual who went straight to Borderlands Pre-sequel.
@@connardougharty1836 Ah, I see. Just like Final Fantasy.
For those who have never played Armored Core. Rule #1: there is no "best" loadout, there will always be different loadouts that work on certain missions and not on others.
rule#2 never use hard lock
Dude pleeease stop copy and pasting that on every damn video. We’re not going to come to your page. We’re still going to watch build videos labeled “THE BEST AC6 BUILD”.
You can find something better to do with your time.

Finally someone who appreciates AC's art direction and doesn't just throw the "bad graphics" card around. 25th can't come soon enough... Fantastic review!
Thank you for making this video!
Those gameplay clips reminded me of the final episode of MGS4 with a mecha fight
I'd say that was more akin to a Kaiju Mech battle.
Anyone know if a fight stick can be used with this?
Amazing review. Thank yoi
I remember I used to play Armored Core: The Last Raven on PS2. Maybe it was made to be really hard or maybe I was just really bad, but I was never able to complete any mission that required me to fight another AC.
There was a glitch though, if I reset my campaign I got to keep all the money I earned, so I grinded easier missions until I was rich enough to buy every single part in the game from the first mission.
That's actually not a glitch. Last Raven is difficult enough they did that on purpose.
@sergharcromwell8374 Ah I see. I still felt smart for doing it tho. Even if I sucked against other AC's I still had hours of fun just building my mechs lol.
Yeah, that's just Last Raven. That game is just designed to be mean to the player. It's great, but it also takes some genuinely sadistic glee in kicking your teeth in.
Last Raven is the hardest game From has ever made or will ever make. It is outright unfair on purpose. They released Ninebreaker ahead of it specifically to train people to be good enough to have a chance at LR.
@justletmecomment6453 Ah good to know it wasn't just a case of me sucking
i can't wait, this is the kind of game hard to market, but i know i'm gonna love it..
Anyone know if they'll bring back the Karaswa?
This setup reminds me a lot of how a game for my switch is set-up. Also a mech game
Awesome review!!
This is much better than IGN's review. That review tossed aside the story like it was "eh, its present". Fromsoftware does not take story lightly and it is bound to be much more complex than it seems on the surface. This review does a good job of bringing that to light.
IGN is always bottom of the barrel for me when it comes to reviews.
The person speaking & reviewing the game is an entirely different person than the one who gave the SCORE who is also a different person that writes the scripts for these IGN videos.
Often times, this leads to the speaker making the game sound like it's a 9/10 but somehow scores a 6/10 because the person behind the scenes actually hates the game. Absolutely unreliable.
@@CLARENCErr And when IGN gives a 10/10 you conveniently switch sides eh? Saying things like "They hired a good reviewer this time".
My first armor core game that I played was armor car one, but then I stopped for a long time and went back to the armor core franchise with armor core for answer. I am eagerly looking forward to getting back into the AC franchise with ac6.
Reminds so much of last raven! The armored core games from 3 to last raven on the ps2 are hands down some of the best games ever!
Seems like a fair review. Thank you
Year after year id hope for them to release a new armored core. I had almost given up hope but here we are. Havent been this pumped for a game in a long time.
So many, many fond memories.
please i have a question
There is a matchmaking for the PVP or not ?
officially excited
So how does it play with mouse and keyboard ?. After all it is a PC game ?
Great review
I just bought this game today. Looking forward to it
Makes me wish for another zone of the enders
that would be epic.... a customizable ZOE next gen version... wooo
I agree ZOE needs a reboot.
Still the best mech game
Zoe was too linear with no customization.
@@unlucky7s561was never designed with that intent, just high speed mecha action with different abilities
God I can't wait.
Man, now I want this game so bad.
So From Software has another banger on its hands. I'm shocked, lol.
My body is ready for this game tomorrow
This is the most fair review ive seen so far
What's it like on PS4?
I'm about 5 missions deep (excluding the training missions, which I highly recommend doing for the early rewards and in game knowledge) and I gotta say, this game really is fantastic. Fun combat, engaging story, and highly deep and rewarding customization options. FromSoftware delivers another banger.
Preordered :D

So pumped for tomorrow

Just what I needed to hear, Not a DarkSouls with Mechs
After looking at this footage I think it might be fun to play on a mobile device with controller.
Thanks for this
They give it a 9/10
Could swear I heard Johnny Yong Bosch at the beginning.
How long does it take to beat I wonder?
Nice review, thx.
Does the game let you have multiple load outs so when you need to you dont have to swap every dang piece out?
In short, yes.
Every AC game has had multiple loadouts you can swap between based on situations
How does one play this early ??
Let's not forget it's complete and largely bug free and there are no microtransactions. Think we should keep that in mind.
Common Fromsfoftware win.
Highway to the Rubicon fires🎶
No adaptive triggers on the ps5 version?
No. From doesn't seem to care about incorporating controller gimmicks into their games.
good review
Has anyone confirmed if there are duelsense features?
Can't wait to become a mercenary war pig
Now fromsoftware just needs to bring back TENCHU
How good does it look on low specs?
Is there sniper rifles in the game?
We really need a Mech Assault game or maybe just BC for the 2 we already have
Complain to Microsoft for mech assault
Maybe port the games to xone and series s already
Haven't played AC since the first game on ps1... this should be interesting
Super new to ps5, retural or this?
From Gundam to Mechwarrior ,statement of the year!
I remember playing the first one decades ago. Irs always the fast running legs for me to avoid enemies. Lol.
Wow, this looks great. 😍 I've played this game since i was a Lil nerd (back then) I must grab this now that I'm 37 and still kicking it. The game comes out on my wife's B day. Ima buy that b4 she wakes up 🤷🏻♂️ 😆 😂 😊
Until i started seeing all the hype for the game i thought they had stopped making armored core games. The last one i played was For Answer lol looks like i got some catching up to do
Are we friday yet? :D
I know it's really early to stay this but I hope the next time armored core game that comes out will take less than ten years
My excitement level is up to 1 million!
For the emperor :D
Does it support gyro?
So far my game of the year contender!
Awesome
There aren't difficulty modes right? I pre-ordered this game, but I'm thinking I probably won't be able to get past the first couple of hours, if that.
There aren't, Armored Core usually isn't that difficult though. Most of the challenge comes from S-ranking missions, not just beating them.
Difficulty depends on how you build the mechs. You are able to make it as hard or easy as you like
@@redfog2010 I guess I'll just end up copying whatever the experts recommend for various missions as I'm not into stat analysis, loot, and inventory management. And yes, I do want my money and time back for Diablo IV.
@@snek1356 Good to know since I don't care about getting S rank for trophies and such.
And also there is new game +
The motion blur is too much
THANK YOU FOR THIS REVIEW! I'M EXCITED!
Is Nineball back?
I know its not a game about the story, i just love the gameplay and numerous build options
Im hoping to god that nineball shows up in this one
I love everything about the game apart from the mechs primarily using rollerblades to move around. I’d much rather have slower paced movement, maybe something similar to mechs in Titanfall or jaegers in Pacific Rim. It would be much more satisfying to feel the weight of the giant robot we are piloting imo.
As a fan, I don’t have any doubts about the game’s quality or about From Software but I’ll hold the trigger for now.
See you out there, Raven.
I hope they bring back Otogi
new blood in the games! Armored core VI
FromSoft for life.
the game isnt even out yet, i thought there would be an embargo until at least the release day

No wonder Mech Warrior 2 is on sale for $10 right now 😂
Huh? But MW2 is an abandonware
@@Dregomz02yeah what a comparison lol
Kind of relieved the difficulty isn’t necessarily soulslike, I’ve been kind of burnt out on super hard games since Elden Ring.
