  • My sulcata tortoise laid 34 eggs in one clutch! The radiated tortoises are laying eggs also and I've decided to let them incubate naturally in the ground but they'll need protection. I love that Bobby got a new bigger habitat, he deserves it after all he’s been through. I also think it’s great that you dig up the eggs and put them in an incubator, it gives the babies a better chance of survival. Don’t let nay sayers get to you, you are doing what’s best for all animals involved

    I think you are amazing at how well you know your tortoises, 🐢turtles and your other animals. There's just nothing that escapes your eye. These animals are so lucky to be at Kamp Kenan. I wish I lived closer so I could come and visit because I love Sulcata tortoises. Unfortunately I'm too old to get one and I wouldn't want to pass away and leave an orphaned tortoise so I 'll just keep watching them on your videos. thank you for sharing so much wonderful stuff with us

You have one feisty female iguana, for her to attack the male. I hope that he heals ok. That was a lot of eggs for one nest. Can't wait to see them hatch.🦎🐍🐢❤️ Cindy

    One thing to watch with the sim incubation technique is as the humidity builds on the roof it runs down the side of the tub witch will introduce water if they touch the side. I wouldn't be surprised if the outside edges go bad.

    I'm excited to see how the egg experiments will turn out!
    For your Rec. Pond What if you made a 'cage' around your waterlilies using stakes spaces about 3-4 inches apart - tight enough that no turtle can get its head at the base of the plant, but far enough apart that the leaves and stalks can reach out and through the stakes - which will hopefully allow you to keep the turtles in the pond and and still enjoy the waterlilies . . . just a thought that popped into my head while watching ^_^
    Happy to see Bobby outside again! :) ^_^

    One of your more interesting vids. Especially the momma Sulcatas behavior. Also your choice for ground hatching is something I’ve wondered about for some time. But there is always a possibility that she is not protecting the nest…but knows when she sees a bucket it’s usually feeding time

  • @lexslate2476
    @lexslate2476 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That is a very cunning tortoise. I respect her efforts. She went very deep with those. Sulcatas are very big on excavation it seems. And now you have found them, and you can keep them all nice and safe until they hatch and then it's a whole litter of helmetpuppies off to new homes. Unfortunately there's no way to tell her they're safe with you. Is there? She seems kind of upset. Would letting her meet the hatchlings later make her less angry? Does she hold a grudge about this kind of thing?
    I hope the radiated tortoise eggs hatch nicely in the ground. Is the climate there close to what they're adapted to? Like clearly the sulcatas don't know to check for a high water table, do the radiated ones know to watch for that, or do they just pick spots that are handy?

    Beautiful clutch! Yessss research is EVERYTHING!!!!! I did 2.5yrs of resesrch before I got my husky because I live in an apartment. I ended up getting her 12yrs ago an I am deeply glad I did such thorough resesrch. She lived a good happy life. Same with my beardie. I did 2years of research because she is my first reptile and they are so different than mamal keeping because of being ectotherms. So glad I did because I eas waffling between beardie and tortoise. Agsin I live in an apartment. Beardie won out because tortoises just aree not at all suited for apartment life at all. Even if you have a whole room for them its just not good for them. Always always always fo thorough resesrch not just an hour of youtibe videos and csre guides

    A friend of mine needed help .owing thi gs from his ex wife's house. I got there and noticed his ex had a baby sulcata tortoise. She was feeding it lettuce from McDonald's burgers mayo and all. I found this tortoise a new home. A home he could be given everything he needs. He is 10 now and doing awesome. Some pyraminding but in good health.
