    I used Photoshop for the last 6 or so years and my job has changed, so I lost access to my company's license.
    I was pretty bummed out because I love Photoshop even as a hobby. I searched for a true alternative and fortunately discovered Affinity Photo 2.
    I downloaded the trial and after a day or so of getting familiar with the interface differences, I could NOT believe how powerful and close to Photoshop it is.
    I immediately purchased the license and have been having an absolute blast with it. It really is a true Photoshop alternative.
    As you mentioned, it lacks the cool AI stuff that Photoshop has been innovating - but for me, for the price difference - I can live without them.
    Great video - thank you for making more people aware of this amazing software suite.

    I maintain that if you pay for one year of Creative Cloud, you should get a perpetual license for that year's version of all the apps included for your subscription. Seems like such a no brainer for Adobe. They pull in the "I only want to pay once" customers while being able to offer a real incentive to pay forever. Between Resolve, Affinity, and a handful of other companies, Creative Cloud is slowly becoming the worst deal in software.

    I could not agree more. Good on Serif.
    I bought all of the V1 apps, and now the same for V2 -- WHILE PAYING ADOBE'S SUBSCRIPTION TOO
    One I feel scammed about, the other I feel compelled to support.

    I purchased it while on sale. I had to buy anew mini pc to run it BUT it's great for starting out. Only thing missing is the compatibility of plug ins but I'm sure that will change. Most things I want are on procreate.

    Great video! I also use Topaz Ai for upscaling. Could you do a video on how to format the photo in Affinity Designer instead of Photoshop after upscaling?

    with the full license I love that I could switch from windows to Mac and didn't have to pay again

    has affinity got any feature similar to photoshop's spot healing brush?

    Sadly Serif haven't come out with a Adobe Lightroom alternative yet. That's the only reason I'm holding on to my Adobe subscription (PS + Lightroom bundle). And now I'm using the Upscaling abilities of PS now that I started getting into Midjourney; not sure how well that works in Affinity Photo.

      Luminar neo is a good alternative to lightroom. One time payment

      affinity photo has a (Lightroom) develop and tone mapping persona, not the separate app 🙇🏻‍♂️

    yep it would be so awesome if they can put some effort towards making a linux version. that would be a real game changer. the hopes of newer more modern software... it just would really help so many people out there to have more comercial linux software. especially in this area since krita just has poorer ui and simply the workflow is worse. not so easy to use and get along with. darktable too has poor clunky workflow. we want photoshop! (or rather affinity now). is right tool for right job

      Even good WINE support would be great, but it doesn't work properly right now according to the wine database

    Would love to see an Affinity Video editor...Great deal nonetheless

    • @drbowater
      @drbowater ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Serif Europe the folks behind Affinity have made a video editor in the past called MoviePlus. They also have previous versions of Designer, Photo and Publisher called DrawPlus, PhotoPlus and PagePlus so I reckon it's only a matter of time before they create a new video editor.

    Adobe, to my consternation, just dropped a cool 20 Bil on Figma. They now own Substance (Painter, Designer, etc). Hated subscription fees aside, they're doing interesting things with ML.
    Serif have no answer to lightroom, have tacitly stated they aren't looking to support Variable Fonts, and are still missing super basic, staple features in Designer and Photo.
    I'm an Affinity fan(paid in full), but they have a loooong way to go before Adobe gets shook by anything they're doing.

    It looks good but I'd rather keep my adobe subscription.
    I get to pay the subscription in pesos and if I covert the currency will be like 9 dollars, not expensive at all to me.

    Using DRM free pirated versions of these apps sure beats using the legitimate versions which clog up your system with so much DRM CPU clock Cycles it's unbelievable.

    adobe are their own worst enemy at this point although as long as the education system keeps adobe products as "industry standard" then they kinda have nothing to fear. which sucks ass and balls.

      That’s my dilemma. As a person going into his late 30’s and now wants to do this as a career it’s frustrating seeing software like this that’s affordable and can do just as good work as Adobe…but everything I find in my job search still has “Must know Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign”.
      So my legitimate question to ask anyone here who is more knowledgeable than me and willing to answer: what do I do? Do I bite the bullet and learn Adobe and have it drain my wallet so that I can get a full time job as a graphic designer/illustrator? Or do I take the leap, learn Affinity, develop a solid portfolio, and let that speak for itself?
      I’ve also heard that Affinity’s stuff is very similar to Adobe to the point that even if I learn Affinity, I can still go to another computer at a company or an agency and use their Adobe products. True?

    Lightroom and ps bundle in Indonesia is $3.5, cheap. And the UI and interface is look outdated and very slow compared to affinity photo. The only app worth is only light room classic because of batch edit. If affinity have batch edit to. Adobe is done.

    I really wish that Affinity would make a move on AI and intelligent tools. Selections in Affinity are still such a headache when compared to the simplicity and accuracy of photoshops selection tools. “In painting” was a welcome addition and is helpful, but If they really wanna complete they need the tools that professionals are using in their workflows nowadays. Im not spending an hour making a selection around tree branches when photoshop can do it in 5 seconds (This is all coming from a dedicated Affinity photo user lol, I just wanna see them improve the product).

      I do, too. If they even just had some of the basics that Photoshop has had for years (like subject detection) I'd be able to use it a LOT more

    Adobe? Affinity? what for any of them? why not using software libre like Gimp, Inkscape, Scribus, Blender, Fontforge, etc.?

    • @FlameForgedSoul
      @FlameForgedSoul ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Because most of those apps(Blender being one of the few outliers), suck. They're designed by neck beards who wouldn't know good UI/UX if it bit them on the ass, constantly touting the virtues of FOSS but railing against anything that would actually tempt people away from commercial software. That's why not.

    I think all these photo editors will go extinction due to AI inpainting. Even if Adobe releases their own AI. It won't be free like it's competitors.

    • @analog-dreams
      @analog-dreams  ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean, inpainting is a singular function. Doesn't magically cover all the use cases for photo editors. It will just be a feature.
