    I literally bought mine as soon as I realized it was out. I don't even know what the upgrades were, so thank you for that. I have been using Photoshop since its first inception. Due to the fact the subcriptions are becoming more and more cost prohibitive for a recreational user, I found these programs a blessing once you learn them. I love supporting the Affinity team for what they've created. And the current 40% off is wonderful. I was able to get everything for my ipad and my windows pc. Awesome!

    i bought the affinity universal plan the day it came out. I feel it is a bargain compared to Adobe. I even had a discount on Adobe and I was only paying $35 per month for the suite, but they lock you into a minimum of a one-year contract to get that "discount". If you tried to cancel before the year was up Adobe required you pay a penalty equal to almost the same amount of money as the remaining months on the contract. I canceled Adobe the day before my renewal date and flipped them the bird. I then purchased all the Affinity products on every platform a few minutes later and never looked back...

      Adobe caters to big business and not graphic artists, sadly they are pricing themselves out of the market, I just bought the universal too, still at $99 I think it's a good deal. I'm still using CS6 - still works but I WON'T be buying a CS subscription, can't justify their high prices! The Affinity Suite learning curve commences...

      How glorious that must have felt. I keep telling my bro to ditch Adobe but I still haven't convinced him. Maybe when he's completely broke he'll make the change. 😂 I'll probably just buy him it when my income allows.

      I've been there :) penalty is actually 50% of sum of remining months, but just in case there is a way to escape from penalty, you have to change the plan and cancel as you have 14 days to change your mind and they'll even return the additional amount you paid for the highier plan, I'm not sure if that still works but I don't see a reason why not. Just in case if someone will stuck on Adobe.

    I think it's definitely worth it, no questions asked.
    They're giving all their products not even for the price of two of them. You're paying the price for one and a half and you are receiving the 3 of them. That on itself is a win-win. On top of that, you're getting the iOS/Windows versions as well and the iPad version

    I got the universal licence. I use my ipad as a drawing tablet for my windows laptop. Having all 3 apps across all platforms at the discounted price makes a lot of sense. I can work on one device and continue work on another device. My laptop isn't touchscreen but the ipad is and it is possible to create a seamless workstream between both devices.

    I currently use Capture One for most raw processing needs, but I snapped up the affinity v2 universal license for all three apps. I purchased the V2 Universal License the day it dropped. To me the Value for Dollar is there with the upgrades to the Apps plus the UI was given a much needed refresh. I paid about the same as *Two Payments* to Adobes anti-consumer "Subscription" model pricing, and received a *permanent license* for three awesome programs that I use almost daily to create. Agreed they do not have the exact same functionality, but enough for me to do my work with minimal workarounds. I am sure with the work Serif is putting in on these quality tools one day their programs will be just as feature packed as Adobes anti-consumer pricing model.

    I have to say that as a web developer who occasionally need to make quick and crisp images, I’m hooked on Affinity Designer.
    I can happily say that if someone uses this tool correctly with a business mindset, you’ll be able to make your money back, so go ahead and give it a try. There’s even a free trial. I think the trial lasts about a week, so it’s plenty of time to play around and see if it’s right for you.
    I’m currently in the process of moving from V1 to V2 and believe it not, my mom got it for me as a Christmas gift. It’s funny because she’s not very technical but I guess she knows her kids. Lol

      I’ve been using all 3 for professional use and bought these V2. I love Affinity. I stopped using Adobe because of the horrendous tasks that run in the background that’s like Malware! That said, if Affinity wants to continue to cut into PS sales, they need to offer some sort of add-on ability for AI functions that are becoming almost necessary to speed up workflows…. I think most professionals would gladly pay a bit more to add on the AI functionality that need.

    For the price it's obviously a great deal, with the discount going on.
    However I can definitely see how someone who has been using Affinity photo for a while
    might not necessarily be convinced by the features they added into V2. Myself, I had to think it through
    a little before pulling the trigger. The thing that made me go ahead is the fact I'm pretty confident we will
    get many more features in the months or years to come. But depending on what the type of work that you do,
    maybe the upgrades might not be worth it, and maybe you could stick to what you have.
    Although I'll admit, the upgrade to Designer makes it kind of a no brainer

    I bought them all. 100% worth the money. I need all three of them. I am a photographer, I am in the magazine business and movie business (where I use the lovely Final Cut and Motion). Adobe is too expensive, their subscription model is a shame as I would be forced to pay almost $700 every year for the rest of my life. This is terrible! But Affinity suite is so wonderful that I do not miss Adobe at all. However, for ”developing photos”, I need Lightroom Classic, also I need the Adobe fonts, so I have to accept a little bit of a subscription, some $10 or so a month. I can handle that.

    I heard some people complaining about paying money for not many new features. My opinion is, I am not paying just for the features already come out with v2, but also all the new features yet to come until v3. I believe them on that based my experience with v1. So here is my 5cents.
    I bought the original ones fairly early and i bought v2 like the day it was released. 9th of November 2022 :) I like how they didn't steamroll all the apps with all these crazy features. I think the point of releasing v2 in the way they did is to put out the notice. "Hey guys, we just released the second version and this is the one that will be updated". I think v2 isn't that big of a difference to make people who bought into Affinity like a couple of months ago or maybe even a year ago run to the stores and buy the next thing. For the ones who are longer in the Affinity infastructure this is a sweet deal and a day one purchase. For people who recently purchased v1, well these people arent being forced in slapping more money on the table right now. The notice is out. V2 is where its at, I think this is the fairest they could have done. So people who have been using V1 quite a while are getting a better app and the apps that will be updated in the future. Great. People who recently purchased can get their moneys worth out of v1 and move on gradually.

      3) It's hard to predict since we only have one data point on Affinity upgrades, but my best guess would be around 5 years
      4) I don't use Windows generally so I haven't tested this, but I would not be surprised if it were the case. Especially if you were using a Mac with apple silicon (M1 or M2 chips) those are much better than most of the intel chips in windows machines.

I'd moved to Capture One for photography many years ago and had learned to live without photoshop anyway. Finding Affinity photo for £20 was a huge relief and a couple of days later I added Publisher to learn and produce booklets, and designer pretty much just to round out the suite. 2.0 is a no brainer. The only delay in buying was to confirm there was 'no upgrade option' (and I realise the 40% IS the upgrade offer extended to all).

If you are concerned about your ability to translate your Affinity knowledge to Adobe programs find a library or university that has Adobe on the computers and test it out, if you don't have that option in your area download the free trials and just make sure you can do what you need to in the Adobe programs. Come on dude, I thought you were gonna talk about the worth of the new version and you just talked about pricing...
    And it isn't all just happiness and joy with this update.
    Many people feel let down or worse, because Affinity made thode huuuge marketing claims. Even going so far to shutting down their website for a fiew days and then coming out with an update, that many feel like should have been in the 1.x updates.
    The absemcd of warp in designer and mesh-warp were serious reasons for them to stay clear of designer, because it just wasn't feature complete enough to get their business going.
    Great that they finally added those things after 8 years though.
    I think my qualms lie with the marketing, that had me sure of some animation capabilities being added either via dedicated app, persona or new panel in all of the programs.
    Would be sick to have Affinity Animation with three Personas (or the personas in the respective apps): One for frame by frame (raster and vector tools from Photo); One for Motion Graphics (taking tools from Designer and making so much keyframable in a graph editor); and one for presentations (taking tools from Publisher for all kinds of presentations ... prezi, PP and the likes)
    Also having the ability to import vide + audio would finally give Adobe a real run for their money.

    Btw, please consider not using the term "gipped" or "gypped" as it has a discriminatory connotation. Here's a little background. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the first known recorded definition of the term “gypped” dates back to the 1899 Century Dictionary, which says that it is “probably an abbreviation of gypsy, gipsy, as applied to a sly unscrupulous fellow.” The term "Gypsy" is used to refer to the Romani people. Here's a link on it: www.cpr.org/2013/12/30/why-being-gypped-hurts-the-roma-more-than-it-hurts-you/

    With a subscription to Adobe Illustrator, designers have access to thousands of fonts. Do designers using Affinity Designer have to pay hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars for high-quality designer fonts or are there more affordable options?

    I will stick with APhoto v1 for now. The added v2 features are not relevant for me. Features that I hoped for - especially AI selection and masking tools - are missing. Unfortunately Serif is behind almost everybody else in this respect.

    Is Affinity V2 upgradable to V3 when it’s available or it’s a separate purchse to get the v3?

    Hi everyone - I’ve got a question:
    I have been using V1 exclusively on my iPad so far and got the results I wanted.
    Now I’m considering an upgrade to V2 and my question is: how are the desktop apps different from the iPad versions?
    Is it worth getting the whole suite or will upgrading my iPad apps and adding Publisher for the iPad serve me equally well?
    (I’m using an iPad Pro 1st gen and a MacBook Pro).
    Thank you!

    • @bendesignsmedia
      @bendesignsmedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you say iPad pro 1st gen do you mean the 2015 version, the one with a home button? It does say that the new affinity V2 is compatible with that version, but it is getting a little old and I don't know what the performance would be like.
      There is not all that much difference between desktop and iPad apps, but the Desktop apps do have some extra features (these can be found in the feature list and are marked as desktop only), if any of those features seem necessary for you I would say it is worth the upgrade to a universal license. I think it is worth it just to make sure I am covered in the future on any platform.

    I'm doing some retouching on my personal photos at home. In the past I've used Corel PaintShop Pro on my Windows computer. But after switching to Mac a few years ago I've ended up buying Affinity Photo version 1 when it launched. I've bought Designer and Publisher later on as well, even though I don't really use those that much.
    Fast forward to last week when I've received a mail from the Affinity crew that they now have version 2 with a 40% discount. So it was pretty much a no brainer for me to go for a Universal license and grab all 3 apps with the nice discount.
    Photo v2 is faster here compared to v1 on my M1 MacBook Pro and it's rock solid and stable. It has more options than I'll ever need. And no need to fork over cash to Adobe each month. I already have enough subs as it is. 😀

    The Affinity Apps are truly a good deal. But, it still does frustrate me that their so called "40% discounted price" is still nearly twice the price that I paid for Affinity v1 just a couple of years ago in 2020! I'll probably still upgrade (to support Affinity), but it's just a bit frustrating that they're not that transparent about their increasing price (presumably as they have become more popular?).

    • @bendesignsmedia
      @bendesignsmedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      well you probably purchased during the pandemic 50% off sale, and inflation has skyrocketed in the last year, so really it's not that bad. I don't see what is non-transparent about listing the price they are selling it at

    • @gregclare
      @gregclare 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bendesignsmedia Fair response. I did say the Affinity Apps are truly a good deal. My comment about lack of transparency, was simply how it felt after being offered a 40% discount, which I then discover is still nearly twice the price I paid in 2020. This just felt a bit misleading, as it gave the impression that the “normal” price had been hiked so that they could then market a now higher price as a 40% discount offer.
      But this doesn’t take away my initial comment, that the Affinity Apps are truly a good deal.
