My father always told us that "it was our duty to vote and if you don't vote you have no right to complain." I live in the US, and what a mess we have. And I just don't get how one evil man has generated so much hatred and power. At least your PM hasn't been given complete immunity from all crimes - the bright side to your government. I can't even watch the news or social media anymore without becoming so depressed. Thank goodness for orchid & gardening videos.
Agreed. I sympathize with the politics ennui and disillusionment, but no changing a system you don’t participate in. I’m in sympathy with Roger too-it’s a depressing situation altogether and I don’t blame him for staying at home. Still, here in the US, we’re run by the minority because more people don’t vote than do. That’s the long and short.
Always worth remembering that not voting can count as a protest for having nothing worth bothering to vote for. Only around 60% voted - that means that 40% DIDN'T. Worth remembering that the party that came 3rd have always wanted to change the voting system - if it had changed, they would have come 4th - they are 'all quiet' now.
@@GrowingOrchidswithRoger we have a similar imbalance in the states in our use of an electoral college and in the number of votes allotted to relatively uninhabited states, allowing them to carry way more influence than they should. Attempts to change the system have all failed, and our conservative Party has been working to roll back any attempts to make voting easier for minorities. Disheartening 😐.
@Stryder4903 I agree with you, but I've become an election judge to help do my part to keep our democracy going as much as I can. Your local government is always looking for election judges; become involved, and work for what you believe in. I very much am in agreement with your father. Added to that, women were kept from voting, so I am dang well going to use the vote I have that my great-grandmother never had.

I think Rick L Orchids gave you a shout out a few videos ago, and he also said support other channels which was nice..the doldrums are caused by the election I am sure.😊 Thank goodness for Orchids I say! Its nice to tune into you chatting with coffee, whatever it's about.🌸

Pardon me saying, but if you don’t go out and vote, you shouldn’t even have brought up the topic. Things annoy you obviously, but you won’t vote? You will never, ever effect change (if it takes years).
The more thoughtful actually know that 40% of the people didn't vote - it's a form of protest at the choices and 'the system'.

You are really the only orchid channel I watch now. Of course I watch Danni if she can answer a question in one of her videos. As far as content, I am a fan of "how are they doing now" videos. I love to see the progress, or lack thereof, of plants that are trying to recover, were potted up, or were recently bought. I often watch videos and then wonder, "So how is that plant doing now?" Thanks for always entertaining me!

I do watch your channel of course, for many, many years now, and Ynse, nature Nel, Rick L. Hillbilly Orchids, and a few more If I do have the time 😅… I try to support as many as I can. Even though I do grow in pumice, semi hydroponic for over 6 years now, I do still learn a lot from other growers who might not use the same media/set up as I do.

To answer your question.. Orchid related channels I frequent: The Nature Company, Hello Plant Lovers!, MissOrchidGirl, Ninja_Orchid, Rick L. Orchids, Howard's Orchids and Eds Orchids, Mick's Masdevallia orchids, Norman's orchid etc. That's about it I think. Some good channels that have very specific orchid guides don't have English subs so hard to watch so didn't mention them..
Some there I don't know - I'll take a look.
I love to see Mojo. He’s very sweet & has that cute black spot on his little face.

I’ve started watching Steven Vankampen-Lewis’s channel. He has interviewed some exceptional growers. He also grows in his house, although he borrows a greenhouse from time to time. He’s an AOS judge, so quite knowledgeable. I’ve also started watching Hello Plant Lovers out of Melbourne, Australia. I have a few of the orchids he talks about, and it’s interesting to see what he does with them. I’ve moved my kingianum outside because of how he grows his.

I think we all have days when we don’t feel like doing much. I watch Ynse, Rick L, and Ed plus a few more. In spite of it being a damp, gloomy day, I need to do some yard work.

PMs go but Larry stays. Not mentioned yet in the comments is a quite new channel -> Orchids by Bryan. He makes mainly nursery tours in the US. Really nice to watch and relax... and he is not an 'over exited' guy (if you know what I mean).
I think Larry the cat is totally spoilt by the staff so it doesn't matter who is PM.
My favourite channels apart from yours, is Rick L who I find very informative and he seems like a really nice man, and Hello Plant Lovers because he is in Australia like me only he is a cool grower and I’m almost in the tropics. Anyway, I enjoy stopping by your channel.

Matthew's Hello Plant Lovers in Melbourne who has a lot of cool growing orchids, Ninja Orchids I love her no-nonsense approach and jacolynsorchids in Salmon Arm (interior British Columbia, Canada) who grows mostly phals indoors and out in the sun room, but also has a constantly changing garden. Her 100 yr old mother lives with her and is a hoot!

You are lucky you don't have to vote, in Australia we are forced to vote or we get fined, so if you don't want to vote for anyone we have to do an informal vote.
I am feeling you. I am in a slump not wanting to do anything. I haven't filmed in months. I might buy an orchid and do an unboxing. My favorite channel besides yours is just vintage crochet

Kick back and relax with Mojo! 🥰 yours are the number 1 channels for me, as I am always learning something new, and your garden is beautiful!, Herons Bonsai, Bonsai worx, Hello plant lovers, Howards orchids, as he has a lot of miniatures, Notion Bonsai, Self Sufficient Me is an Aussie vegetable grower in the warmer top of Australia, and for something completely different, I watch the Behavior Panel from America which is a panel of experts talking about body language, and Mark Bowen is on that panel. I don't post all the time here, but I am watching!!!😍luv ya

Not at the moment - it's just collecting dust. I lost all of the relevant software and plug -ins and have not had the will to try and recover it all. Maybe one day.....

It seems the same for many channels.
Oh a good way to get out of that thing in TH-cam where they show you all the same videos by the same people is to close TH-cam and reopen and do a new search.
Lot's to do but all repots and I'm not really into it at the moment 😁 I enjoy all the channels I watch, no real favorites, and not even for the information because not many grow with my conditions you are one of the very few. Orchid Saga is a good channel I can't do much with his info because of his set up but his collection is amazing. El Pilar is worth a visit, he grows a lot of Paphs and is the only one I know that pollinates and hybridizes on the windowsill

I watch all your channels and all the videos.
Other orchid channels I watch are Nina from Ninja orchids, Fernanda, Ynes, Todd, Ed's Orchids, Rick L and Lynn's videos.
Also Howard's Orchids, he has some different plants and quite a few miniature orchids.
I used to watch Orchie Dee as she is in Australia but she stopped making videos after having her daughter.
I've just found another channel called Hello Orchid Lovers. He's based in Melbourne Australia and only has orchids that will grow either outside all year or inside over winter without needing heaters or humidifiers, which is like my situation although I do have a couple of lights I use inside for my really young seedlings to try and keep them growing over winter.

I think there probably are a few that have been given that title but unfortunately there are more dictators that don't have, or even want the benevolent part. Also they seem to get all the publicity!
I already watch most of those but will check out the new ones to me.

I watch a guy called Steve Marsh, he travels all over the place, cheaply. Some abroad but also uk. Very down to earth.

😅I hear you lol, the comments about politics and here in Brazil we have to vote! The left here is undoing what had been done to leave their mark and are creating a bunch of new taxes non stop and destroying the economy. I also am with you when talking about watching soccer. The best part was seeing your gorgeous cat lol! I will watch the video on your other channel! I only post videos over the weekends, I live in a apartment, so there isn’t as much to talk about.
I watch one or two about orchids in Brazil and about cats mostly in Brazil. I also like to watch videos about remodeling homes! I don’t bother to watch videos about personalities. Sit inside watching this amazing garden for a while!
If voting was compulsory here, the result could have been very different - 40% didn't vote and the winning party only got about 34% of the votes.

Hi Roger! I discovered your channel earlier this year and really enjoy your videos (and Mojo 😻). As for other channels, do you watch 'Howard's Orchids'? He doesn't post often but he has a really nice collection he grows in his greenhouse in England. Also 'Hello Plant Lovers', Australian orchid grower has a nice collection.

You are my favourite channel! I also watch Ninja Orchids, Rick L., Hillbilly's Orchids (Paula) because they are very informative and answer to my comments most kindly. I sometimes watch Ed's channel, plus (occasionally) a Brazilian channel.
I also watch Geoff's channel, not particularly focused on orchids, but very informative.
I think some channels forget that part of running a channel is dealing with comments even though it can take some time.
I guess for me, I'm busy this time of year with garden projects and more general yard work. The orchids are just kind of slowly growing roots and new leaves or growths (or slowly dying) but the yard and outside of the house needs my attention more. One channel I always watch is not orchid related but more general gardening. Garden Answer. It gets me motivated that's for sure. But being a certain age, I have a limited amount of energy to expend. Yard work, in my yard, is back breaking. It might take me two days to dig a hole into my heavy clay and large roots and rocks to plant a small tree. I like orchid ninja too even though her set up is very different from mine so it's not always relatable. Anyway a day off never hurt anyone. Take care. Have a glass of wine maybe.
My garden is relatively 'settled' at the moment so just a bit of weeding and light pruning.
Roger, going out for lunch will give you a change of environment. When you are in ho hum mode, it will give you a renewal from the same old same old. Even though it cost more most of the time it’s worth the effort. 👍

Hi Roger, I know that other than Cymbidium, you don't put your orchids out in summer. But does anyone in your orchid society do so? Or is the climate just too dicey to be able to do so?
Some put a few out but it's often the rain that puts people off.
My go to channels as a good resource besides yours are: Ninjaorchids, OrchidSaGa, HillbillyOrchids, Rick L., Ed's Orchids, and Stephen Van Kampen Lewis. I also keep with Fernanda, Ynse, Julie's Orchids, Rare Roots of Joy, and Hello Plant Lovers. I will enjoy reading the answers and checking out new channels. Thanks for asking Roger. 🙂

Hi Roger, some of my favorites along with you are Miss Orchid Girl, Ninja Orchids, Rick's Orchid, Nature Nel, Hillbilly Orchids, Ed's Orchids, Good Growing, Wild Fern, Benji's Plants and Kaylee Ellen. I feel like it's that time of season, especially if you are just growing orchids. I subscribe to houseplants and orchids and houseplants. TH-cam seems to have content all of the time.
Maybe I could expand my TH-cam interests.
How do you deal with too much rain and cymbidiums? Kicked my Ice cascade out but it gets soaked when the weathers are rainy, not to mention nights are colder when it rains a lot.. So I'm afraid that it could rot.

The difference? - A single ruler can see where there are problems and get them fixed without having to get many to agree and waste so much time and money making those decisions - plus all those people making those decisions all have to be paid.

I personally don't mind the "waffle" at all. There's a lot of homesteading channels that I'm watching and someone was also apologizing in his latest video for the lack of content and it "just" being a boring video. They are in the US and currently under a heat wave. I see watching all these channels as hanging out with friends in a way. I don't hang out with friend because there's someting exciting going on. Sometimes it's just listening to a conversation and that's good enough for me.
Favorite channel and why? Apart from yours... oh boy... last year I would've still said Danni but I'm not watching a lot of her videos anymore. I'll get excited whenever Rick L is posting, that's for sure. I'm more active in the homesteading section of my subscriptions list, atm, trying to keep up with everyone. I love to watch Nature Nel but I've missed so much this year that I could probably fill the next 2 weeks with only his videos, as most of them (live from orchid shows) are well over 1 hour long. I love long videos but I don't have the time to watch them in one go anymore, well I could but I could not sit down infront of my laptop to really watch. It would more be like a podcast no fun if someone is live streaming from an orchid show.
Anyhow, I'll be watching Foodball today and tomorrow, cheer for Germany and England, as I usually do and be happy when it's all over (aka. whenever Germany is out of the equasion) and all the firecracker igniting idiots can disappear back to where they came from.
Anyhow, have a great relaxing weekend.
I feal guilty when I post a long vid as I know it takes up people's time to watch but they seem to be popular.

I know what you mean about the lack of TH-cam videos. I watch mainly bonsai videos. I think it's the time of year for bonsai inactivity. Other than keeping things watered and weeded, there isn't much going on. I hope you enjoy your lunch.
I've joined in a collaboration which I must get on and do the video for. I do have some 'Deciduous Summer Trimming' to do and I will have to deal with the new growths on my Pines soon.

Re: politics, my philosophy is to be wary of the person who actually wants the job.
I’ve been mostly watching pet grooming videos so I’m no help. I watch whoever TH-cam recommends, kinda. A few channels established themselves as “lookie what I just bought” channels so I don’t bother no matter how much they get recommended.
Someone once said "The fact that someone wants to be a politician should automatically exclude them from ever being one"
In Au it is compulsory to vote that being aside I do agree and our system is as bad as yours You can loose but still win with buddy votes. I am a firm believer in 1st past the post is the winner because it is their ideas of what is to be done is what I want not a buddy deal where I don't. Channels - you of course because you speak from the heart about what you have and can show, Also Ed, Rick L. Yes

I know this is a lot of work for you but I would be interest to hear / see Orchids that YOU would like to have and why you haven't got, most obvious reasons accepted, but more like you could but why you haven't. As long as the politicians are making sure their own interests are taken care of, the people they are supposed to be serving will suffer. I live in a country that is rated the 6th most prosperous and yet people queue at food banks and are being made homeless because they can't afford their rent and people are either freezing or staving during the Winter. Something needs to change - where is all the money?
In an Empire, you can have an Emperor - In a Kingdom, you can have a King - I live in a Country!

@@GrowingOrchidswithRoger I while back I watched a YT video on "food deserts" it was in the UK. Shops disappearing from low income areas so the only food still available is junk food. The Tories screwed over Britain the same way our Tories screwed Holland. We have a right wing government now (I voted labour) who will screw itself within six months
