    Thank you, Roger, for once again brightening our day by showing your beautiful orchids.
    Yes, what is happening in America is very alarming.
    I think we are all holding our breath and waiting for the end. The US government has abandoned reason and we are no longer the country that we used to be. It is very sad. American citizens still have the idea of the shining beacon of freedom, but that is long gone in reality.

      It today's world, you can't say what you want, you can't go where you want, the can't live where you want - where is the freedom? The main problem is there are just too many 'people'.

    Hi Roger! Thank you for this great Sunday chat! Coelogynes are interesting but not for me at present, as they can be rather large. I did have one once, very fragant. It started going downhill and, too late, I realized that tiny snails ate all the new roots. I could not save it and that was that. Maybe in the future!

    Thanks for another wonderful video, Roger! Really enjoyed the look at Coelogyne genus. And love your Shelob! It is a beauty. As a US citizen, I could not agree with you more about our elections this November! It’s really sad.

      We're on our 3rd Prime Minister selected by party members - at least on Thursday, 'the people' get a say - but what a rubbish choice.

    If they offered cardioversion or ablation, if they get you out of a-fib, you get off of the blood thinners! Longer you are in the arrhythmia, harder to convert you back.

    Coelogynes come from monsoon areas, so they like shady wet summers but very bright cool winters. that was the reason why your mooreana didn't flower for you. I keep mine (formerly yours) in my poly-tunnel where it is getting some direct sun in the morning till cca noon. it currently has got 5-6 spikes growing. the same applies to crystata, nitida and others

    UK (and Canada incidentally) with their parliamentary systems, make it easier for there to be multiple political parties, even though it is usually only two that become highly favoured. Mind you an effective third party can easily result in a minority government which then behoves the larger party to actually govern through consensus rather than the "imperial decree" that a majority gives! The American system, however, makes it extremely difficult to form even a third political party (see Nader, Sanders and the current Kennedy) resulting in only a two party system. Any third party just siphons off votes from the Dems or the GOP and then that party disappears into oblivion.

    • @GrowingOrchidswithRoger
      @GrowingOrchidswithRoger  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Here, no clear majority means constant bickering and very little gets done. And whoever wins will fail to achieve their promises anyways. I don't normally vote as I don't agree with 'the system'.

    This is the 2nd nitida you are losing. They really appreciate lots of moss. When your 1st one was going downhill mine was doing the same but I read about the moss and I put moss around the base of the bulbs as well as in the media. It picked up steadily and this time produced 4 spikes. Hope this helps.

  • @carolesykes7955

    I know you don't agree but I keep the feed pH at no more than 6.2 because of reasons we've discussed before and it's healthy with a new growth and roots coming out of the bottom of the pot. It's worth a try 🤷‍♀️

    • @GrowingOrchidswithRoger
      @GrowingOrchidswithRoger  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Natural 'run-off' of rain in trees is around 6.5 to 6.8 including whatever 'food' has been picked up on the way down. The three main nutrients (N-P-K) are absorbed best between 6.5 and 7. I occasionally use a lower pH as some of the micro nutrients are not absorbed well (if at all) at higher pH values. When there is moss in a media, the pH drops dramatically after watering.

    That C. Usitana Burnham is the spitting image of the Dendrochillum Cobbianum, just 5 times larger. My Cristata is doing everything but sulk all growth is starting with roots and i have to create a new kind of pot because the pot I used isn't large enough. The latest coelogyni is a Miniata hybrid and hasn't adjusted yet (has small brown-ish flowers)

      @@GrowingOrchidswithRoger I think mine has settled. It has six big growths and a smaller seventh coming. I had to make a new pot to get some of the new roots into media (without disturbing the plant)
