Well, the idea of breaking down a cadet's loyalty to their homeworld and changing it to the Empire is not a bad idea, especially for a military. Regional loyalties traditionally have been a problem for many nations and militaries.
rome did something similar with the auxiliary corps, where non-romans served until retirement or honorable discharge in order to become an official roman citizen. during this process theyd eventually become more romanized and develop loyalty to the roman state instead of or alongside their loyalty and culture of their native regions. theyd use this to pretty much culturally convert new territory while also filling in extra roles (archery, horsemanship) regular roman soldiers didnt fill

I think that's the biggest issue with the entire imperial military some of them are waay to focused on class when with a military it shouldn't matter where someone comes from what should matter is what they contribute to the military rather than where ever they came from
Class structure is inherent in imperialism both in the fictional realm of Star Wars and real life as well. Hierarchal structure is the only way it functions.

A better military can be built if more academies worked to structure a heirarchy of skill and talent where cadets showing skill in fighting, leading, or other disciplines are awarded higher positions

This is very interesting difference. The Imperial Academy consists of Imperial officers training random people to become stormtroopers while the Republic Academy consists of Kaminoans training the clones of Jango Fett to become clone troopers.

The Clone Wars themselves parallel the American Civil War. The Clone Army is even referred to as "The Grand Army of the Republic", which is the original name of the Union Army, and I don't think I need to tell you where "Confederacy of Independent Systems" is coming from. But the original Star Wars (i.e. Episode 4, 5 and 6) are definitely inspired more by Japanese culture. At least in some of the designs and the philosophy of the Jedi. Yoda is basically a a buddhist monk. Vader's armor being inspired by samurai armor and all.
