I got my 1st dog at 65 after strokes, quad bypass & severer spinal surgery. My sister surprised me with an 8 week old Cavalier puppy. She had been wanting me to get a companion dog. I really didn’t think I would be good with the responsibility. She surprised me with a King Charles Cavalier puppy. 15 minutes in my house kissing me my sister asked what do you think. My answer “ You couldn’t take him away from me with a gun”. That was 5 years ago I named him Jesse after my first welsh ancestor. He is simply the most fabulous experience of my life. We’ve been through few issue but all were well days later. I love Jesse & he loves me believe me when a Cavalier loves you it’s demonstrative. We have only been apart two nights & I just worried about him. He was safe staying at my dog trainers house. I hate to leave Jesse alone for even 10 minutes so I don’t. He has been trained as a therapy dog & my service dog because his breed specializes in sensing strokes & seizures. As a service dog he can go anywhere I can go & if you don’t see him you would not know he is there. Store, restaurant anywhere he is quiet, well behaved & clean. We are like roommates except he doesn’t talk. But yes he does communicate 5 years together 24/7. I know what a look or a tap w/ a paw says. He sleeps wonderfully all night in bed with me. When occasionally needs to potty I often know, sense it & let him out. We live in a heavily laden coyote area on edge of golf course so after putting a doggie door I had to lock it up put a dark curfew on Jesse. So on the occasion I don’t wake up with him he comes back taps my butt & out we go together. It works . All the golfers know Jesse many bring treats for my boy. He is so friendly I take him for walks along edge of course & everyone wants to say hi & pet my Jesse same when go to town shopping etc people all say “Hi Jesse!” A few people stop over during week after golf & come to house & play with Jesse. Even after 5 years I am amazed the affect he has on all ages. I love my mate, partner & best friend Jesse more than anyone I have ever known!!!!!❤️🐶👨🏼🦳I am beyond proud of my Cavalier, my Jesse!!!!!

I love Herky and Milton! I found your channel after I got my tri-color Madison and Morgan. I was raised with collies and love them but a friend convinced me to get a Cavie and I am glad I did. Their unconditional love is the best. I no longer have Morgan, she passed away due to Cushing's disease but Madison will be 12 in May. She is a lot like Herky in personality but not food driven. I do cook for her and she gets her supplements. She even drinks bottled water . I think she owns me!

Cavaliers are so wonderfully cuddly we see them as vulnerable but they are also survivors. My Cav has had a few infirms or accidents but bounces back quickly. Yours should too
Yes, cavaliers are highly adaptable, 💞 my neighbor is a 76 years old lady and his cav is very obedient, calm and gentle. Meanwhile our Lucy is very sassy and highly active. My husband found your channel when we were doing crate training! Im glad you feel energized to do more videos 🐶 I think you need a vacation to the beach 🌊☀️ Hopefully very soon! I first found you back in 2018 when I was getting my first dog and I can confirm, I am so happy with my Cavalier King Charles. Best breed ever. I can't believe she is almost 3. Time goes by so fast

I just got my 4th Caviler, she’s only a 9 weeks old puppy at the moment. I’ve had Cavaliers for 20 years, love the breed.
We've had our girl for about a month now. She's definitely been a learning experience since she's our first puppy and dog. I love her so much regardless! She's so much fun and I adore having her in my life

Totally agree with all of your points! My sweet 7 month-old Poppy is the absolute BEST dog! So easygoing, eager to please, and an absolute love bug. Everyone warned us that getting a puppy would be so hard, but we have found it to be an absolute joy!
That's so interesting! I have a sheltie and it's common for these dogs to be their human's shadows too. I plan to be a cyber security specialist and work from home, it's more convenient, plus I have a disability and a chronic illness, so sometimes getting up and doing things can be challenging and I like that the Cavelier is so chill and they don't necessarily HAVE to go for a walk outside every day. Shelties will always have a special place in my heart but I'm thinking the Cavelier might fit in best with the lifestyle I see for myself in the future once I have my own place to live. My ruby cavie is my first dog. He is such a little angel. I couldn't have asked for a better dog. He's quiet, kind, polite and beautiful. He is such a cuddler and loves to chill with me on the couch. But he loves to go on hikes and swim too. ♥️

Kudos to you for actually saying why and how except for people saying things like for example people only say “They are gentle”. You actually explain. So this comment is just a way to tell you I’m subscribing. You deserve it.
My Cavi’s lay at the door and wait for my return even though other family members are still home. They love everyone but do attach to one family member more than another. That is conditioned by who cares for them most. By care I mean feed, bathe, and lets them give kisses, lol. Oh and offers the most treats. Best breed ever!
My family's Cavalier, Leo, is 11 years old (had him since I was 14) and he's the best dog that we could've asked for! My parents decided to homeschool us so a Cavalier was a perfect fit! He does fine when we leave him in his crate downstairs, but if he sees bags packed lined up against the living room wall he starts to get nervous- but we just tell him he's going to "Wags" and he calms down lol he's definitely slowed down over these last few years which is sad to see, but me and my husband want to get a Cavalier as soon as we live in a place that allows dogs!
That is soooo tru about cav is sooo love sponge. One time i sat chico and i said stayed and my dad, mom and i did a little experiement where who does she like best. She came one by one to everyone. Its like she was saying i dont leave people out.... cavs are the best. When i come home from work, everytime she not wags her tail but her whole butt. I love how she welcome me. And when i wear my mask, she goes straight in her crate. We didnt train that but she knows the routine when we put mask on to go in her safe spot. I had other dog b4 but cavs are way too smart.
I wanted a cavalier but I got a Beagle and honestly, I would always get a cavalier because I think they would get along very well

I absolutely adore Herky and Milton!!! My boyfriend and I had been looking to get a dog for last few months and he discovered your channel and we just fell in love with Cavaliers. We are now getting a Blenheim Cavalier girl puppy in just under 5 weeks and we couldn't be more excited. This will be my boyfriend's first dog and my first experience with a Cavalier - I have grown up with dogs my whole life (labradors and cocker spaniels). Thank you so much for producing such amazing content - I am finding it really useful to watch before getting little Bumble!

Oh I have one. If you cant coiffe yourself how can you coiffe a dog. That needs lots of brushing else snots everywhere.
Another one prepare to vacum clean your house with a certain frequency cause these little paws shed a lot :)

Just got ivy like two months ago and she’s been the easiest puppy to train and is just the sweetest cuddle bug! I definitely am already wanting to get her a sister😂🤦🏻♀️

i recently adopted a baby boy caviler spaniel . He will be a year in November. The strangest thing he does is he plays with our cat. Our older corgi doesn’t want his love so he gives it to our elderly cat. They wrestle like siblings. Also Bailey isn’t food or treat driven. He would rather hear the words whose a good boy. Also when I had surgery and couldn’t pick him up he was so desperate to be in my arms and check on me he learned how to climb on the couch by himself at 3 months old

My now late boy was the fussiest eater in the world but when it came to his favourites he was absolutely obsessed.

Im waiting for the “calm” to come as i have a puppy cavalier. She is really calm overall though. She goes WILD for an hour in between her naps and her late night witching hour is terrible sometimes with all the nipping, but for a puppy shes pretty chill id say lol. Shes like milton where she LOVES my lap. I hope she stays that way.
saaame, I'm also waiting for the calm to come. My cav puppy is almost 3 months old and he can be very hyper 2-3 times a day. But he's exactly like Milton in that he is definitely a lap dog and follows me everywhere and cries at the door if it closes before he has a chance to come after me :))
Haha sometimes it takes a while for puppies to get calm! Be patient :)
Hey, I’m considering getting a cavalier I love them so much but I have a few questions. I’m a college athlete and I often go for 5km runs maybe about 4-5 times a week, would cavs be able to do that or is their energy too low ?
I have always loved Cavaliers I have a mini schnauzer- I wouldn’t say they were good for first time dog owners lol! Not in my experience anyway - though she is an old girl now and I can laugh about it now. She still even at 13 gets up to the occasional mischief- I now say it’s part of her personality lol! Hahaha I can definitely tell! We have a few schnauzers in the building and one of them is Herky and Milton's friend. She is so rambunctious and very alert, at all times! They always talk (aka BARK!!) through the balconies! hahaha

I love Herky and Milton, which is the reason I am considering a cavalier as an assistance dog for me. Is this breed suitable?
My assistance dog will be for anxiety and retrieving things for me. I need a breed that loves cuddles and spends much time with me. And follows me everywhere I go

My Cav actually doesn't mind us leaving without her, IF I hide some treats around the flat beforehand. She almost escorts us to the front door, so she may go and search for "fishies" (she normally get's dried fish). After that she heads to her bed and sleeps. Even if we stay away for a workday, that's perfectly fine by her. She really had to adjust a lot when we started to work from home last March, it took her about half a year to really be relaxed and start sleeping again. She just needs the sleep, she's just overly tired without it and goes nuts every now and then. Before Corona we often had to "force" her to rest on weekends when we were home, because she didn't want to miss something. And one really does see if she's tired - she's having pink, sleepy eyes, but doesn't dare to sleep in case she misses something.
By now, with me having moved into our guestroom for working, she's adapted pretty well and does enjoy being there. After little over a month, she's heading for the guestroom alone to sleep there - hoping for mommy to join her there of course!
She does act like a shadow - but not like Milton. She's always late by 2-5 minutes... ;)

I'm trying to decide if I should add a cavalier to our family. I work from home and have a maincoone cat and a neutered black lab. I know they are very expensive and can have a load of health problems. I dont know whether to get a boy or girl any advise? I lived in uk for 15 years and had a grooming shop. Probably 40 percent of the dogs were cavaliers
What time to Cavaliers generally go to bed at night and get up in the morning?
I work one day a week in the office. Would leave at 6.30am and back at 4pm. Can you leave a Cavalier for that long if absolutely necessary? I work from home the rest of the week. I don’t have someone who could come and feed them.

I LOVE my CKCS! its extremely important to get one from a reputable breeder, I can't say that enough! They have serous health issues from over breeding and theyre such a sweet breed who would want to cause one suffering by supporting a puppy mill or someone who's breeding for money vs the health of breed. It will also save you money in the long run. We got ours from a couple who is very respected and part of a club that is helping make the breed healthier. We have all his parents health paperwork as well as met his parents and some grandparents ( his grandma is 16 years old with only a level 2 heart murmur- thats really good!). Females and males are only breed if they pass a full health exam and the females are only breed a max of three times and don't have their first litter till they over the age of 3. He was not cheap and we had to interview and meet them in-person just to be considered. if you can't afford the high price for responsible breeder there are rescue groups for cavilers from usually puppy mills that you can adopt/ save for a lot less money.
They also should not be left alone theyre a very social dog. Ours loves everyone and cries if he can't say hello to others. we never leave him alone. My partner works from home and Im a home maker. He goes for multiple walks a day and has lots of play dates. everyone who meets him falls in love. This is my first CKCS and I grew with dogs...... Ive never had a dog like this! its like all the things you love about dogs in small package. cuddly, smart, athletic, wonderful personality and just soooo fun and sweet, we laugh constantly!
They also should not be feed dry food! ours is on a raw organic diet, we wouldnt feed our kids chips and sugar cereals, so why would we feed our very loved CKCS junk food.
I know this was posted over a year ago but in case you see this, what club are you referring to? How would one find a breeder that’s taking those steps? Thanks.
@@emorourke1306 I’m afraid to edit my post bc every time I do it get deleted. I meant to say that the breeders in the group don’t always have puppies but someone in the club or group will. But the people who are in both these groups love their dogs and are very passionate about the breed. These group exist because they’re trying to make the breed healthier! They’re not easy clubs/ groups to get into and most breeders don’t bother bc they don’t care enough or don’t qualify to join the club/ group. You really have to be a very responsible breeder to join and a breeder who cares more about making money won’t waste their time bc they wouldn’t be able to make money with these high standards. My dogs mother was only breed three times her whole life and not back to back. They didn’t breeder her till she was a few years old and made sure she passed all her health test just like the father.
Hahaha, I'm hoping that my cav puppy will chill down with time. He's almost 3 months old and still kind of hyper and sometimes up to mischief. Were Herky and Milton this way too when they were little?
Omg, it's totally normal at 3 months old!! That's the puppy energy. I would say Herky and Milton got super chill at 1.5 years old!

I am not a doctor so I can't make these kind of recommendations. But I know cavaliers are often used for therapy!

You have to do your research and find a reputable, responsible breeder!
I asked the groomer to give our Cav a short cut because summer is coming and it gets really hot here (Arizona). Now our Cav looks like a beagle which is OK but I was not expecting it. Anyone else have this problem.
We personally never ask for a short cut for that reason. We notice the hair does not grow back the same. It's a debated topic but I see some people do it and others never do. I find cavaliers need their fur as it regulates their temperature

I’ve been having the worst time finding a breeder. They all want you to work from home and have a fenced yard. I am in the position to hire a walker / doggy day care but they don’t care. I’m sure I’ll eventually find a reputable breeder who won’t mind this?
I spoke to one and since it was my first dog since being a child, they told me I should get a cat (which I don’t want). Definitely didn’t click with that breeder!

I forgot to say In the clubhouse I’m on the same vote as u lady and the the tramp as a kid I wanted a lady. I. The movie lady is an America cocker but walt Disney wanted to use a cav but at the time the AKC wouldn’t let him use one so he gave lady cav traits and looks. And that is my favourite Disney film. Also I got lady after I lost my guinea pig winter that I hand reared I was broken it just so happend that I was sitting there as she was born the dog I had dreamed about a whole colour ruby bitch came out and she was mine I held her as soon as she was born and was there every day since. She came to me when I lost my best pal and my heart was broken. I’m still healing from winter she will never be far from my heart ( she was very cav like lol) but lady came to me when I need her most and like winter she also has Ill health so she relys on me to medicate her every day like winter did. I really do think she is winters reincarnation because of lady’s Sm she has a head tilt and winter had middle ear disease and it ended up her being deaf so she also had a head time and their head tilts are on the same side! They literally are the same in personality too so I feel like I do have winter with me, it’s the same love lol 💞

cons - they shed, they are not guard dogs (they would lick up a thief), they are very sensitive and clingy which might not be good for someone, can be prone to health issues so pick your breeder wisely

I love my cavs and I enjoy your videos, but I feel this vid needs disclaimers for first time owners. Too Disney and not enough reality. Do your breed research from reputable resources to learn breed health issues. They need a lot of grooming. How to be a responsible dog owner: you signed up for whatever it takes to keep your pet healthy and happy for life. Cavs crave to be with their people most of the day, are you gone a lot?. The sad thing about cavaliers is most get mitral valve disease.. I absolutely love my cavalier Zac but this heart condition I wasn’t ready for.. pls talk about this so owners know about breeders and signs of heart murmurs:(

Mini schnauzers are not for first time dogs owners lol.. as terriers. Mini schnauzers take a while to open up to strangers and are very wary. They are little watch/guard dogs. They are easy to train but I would not recommend them for a first time owner... and one work GROOMING lol.. they need lots of grooming

Herky The Cavalier “talking” is their specialty lol my 8 year old when it’s just myself and husband he’s so calm and quiet but as soon as he sees someone or something move he goes nuts. My puppy still acts like a puppy lol. Couldn’t imagine my life without any other breed. I did want a cavalier as I have always loved them but husband convinced me other wise
