This helps so much. Thank you. My husband's 2010 Silverado was hit while parked,by a drunk driver. Instead of paying all the labor fees and for educational purposes, for us and our boys, we want to do it ourselves. So thanks a million.
Hmmm. At 3:06 where you say you removed the bed bolt and it was an 18mm.... my 2001 Silverado ext cab has 21mm bolts there. Apparently mine is a mutant. Has 55torx bolts in the brake caliper too. And the front shocks have two lower bolts that install vertically into the lower control arm instead of one horizontal bolt... upper front rubber shock bushings are twice the diameter of the ones that came with the new shocks, and have a metal domed plate on the top bushing. I just keep finding more weird things on my truck that do not match everyone else's vids...
Long bed has an extra bracket off the back of the frame on each side. There are four additional bolts to remove for the bumper and then an additional two to remove each of the brackets.
Thank you! Bought a 2500hd used and I was going crazy because one side came off easy (bolts must've been removed at some point and never reinstalled), but the other side would not budge after following this video.
I looked under my 2005 long bed and it looks more difficult for sure. I also must remove the trailer hitch assembly. Doesn’t look fun, but I want to replace the ugly silver work truck bumper with a new chrome bumper I’ve already bought. Thanks for your extra information about the long bed bumper assembly. (and disassembly, I guess.)
Thank you very much I was having an issue trying to get the bumper past the bed now I'll loosen this to bed bolts on each side and remove. Thank you really appreciate You're a video God-bless Stay healthy
Only the frame bolts and the 2 bolts in the center for the trailer hitch. The hitch stays on, but loosen the frame bolts about 2 to 3 threads (this is to get both the bumper and the hitch evenly and properly tightened down on re-assembly without extra stress on the sides of the hitch. The bed bolts are untouched. The trailer hitch helps 1 person do the job, and acts as a shelf on the re-assembly. You can just pick up the bumper and set it right on top of the hitch. I've done this several times on the 1999-2007 GM full size trucks. If it hits the bed on removal then someone in the original or last assembly adjusted and tightened all the bumper bracket bolts up to high, and then more of the bracket adjustment bolts needs to be loosened to remove the bumper. Still no messing with bed bolts. Bed bolts are not coming out easily and break often on Northern rust belt and upper east coast trucks. Never once yet have had to touch the bed bolts, or remove the hitch, and spare tire always untouched.
Im having issue when I’m pulling it . Like u mention it’s hitting the bed . My question is by removing the last 2 Bolts u mention is gonna make the bed loose ?
yes, but I usually do the rear 4 as it allows the bed to flex just enough to get it off. you can try the rear two and see if that allows the bed to flex enough.
I took this bumper off a this truck and then sold it. Look for people parting these out to get a good used one. A non-cladded Avalanche should use a 00-06 Tahoe / Suburban rear bumper if I remember right.
You'll want to remove the 4 rear bed bolts I point out in the video as those will allow for the bed to flex upwards and the bumper will pull out easy. Hope this helps!
I wish my 2006 GMC Sierra was that easy. Even with the tow hitch off and the 3 bolts on each side out, it would NOT pull out (the bed is in the way). I had to remove the frame brackets that connected to the bumper, from the bumper, 2 bolts each side. Then once the bumper was off, I removed the brackets that connected to the frame.
Except no ones is coming off that easy. The otherEnd of the 18 and 15 mm bolts are always rusted out and once they start turning there’s no getting em off!!!
I've removed 43 of them this way and 38 of them were so rusty I had to wear goggles up to a full face shield to keep from eating lots or metal scaling.
Yes rust is a problem on some, but I've taken badly rusted ones off before by hand in 20 minutes with a 2ft breaker bar and 1/2 inch socket. That's with also having to cut the spare tire winch line with a reciprocator saw because it was bound up. You can do it!
The way I'd usually get them out is to lower them until the winch quit moving which was usually almost immediately. I'd then get a ratchet and worm my hand and ratchet between the wheel hub and the center of the frame under the bed finding the one 15mm bolt that holds the pulley to the frame. Once you get that bolt off then lay under the truck and push up on the tire to get the lip on the top of the pulley to come free from the frame.
:(((( sigh I really hate that I can be smart at times but dumb at times as well.......Now why didn't I think of removing bed bolts and just lifting the bed???!!!! I ended up cutting two small notches, pratically weakening the bed a little bit. Oh well, you live you learn but it's pretty visible with the bed closed :(.
Failed to point out that there are 4 other bolts to remove. Because I was forced to do the work in an unlit area, spent an hour trying to hammer the bumper loose but was unable, only to discover that this video skips those 4 bolts. Sort of an important detail.
Robert Rumfelt Which four bolts are you referring to? The 4 rear bed bolts? If so I cover that in the video. You have to remove those to allow the bed to flex. Then you remove the 2 18s and the one 15 at each bracket and it will literally fall off the truck.
This helps so much. Thank you. My husband's 2010 Silverado was hit while parked,by a drunk driver. Instead of paying all the labor fees and for educational purposes, for us and our boys, we want to do it ourselves. So thanks a million.
This just happened to my 2002 Tahoe 😢

I always come to this videos just for the beginning to get th mm size thanks man for just saying that first , 15 and 18 got it roll out !
Does or will the 2500 bumper work & fit on a K1500? Because they the same for the most part!
Long bed has an extra bracket off the back of the frame on each side. There are four additional bolts to remove for the bumper and then an additional two to remove each of the brackets.
Got the long bed also. So many rusty and seized bolts to remove. Having a hell of a time. Had to cut one of them off

Thanks for sharing. Gotta replace my Silverados bumper due to rust and a huge dent. These things are pretty darn heavy though

On my 2002, the two side carriage bolt are separate. No bracket, and they just turn. Any ideas? First timer.
Excellent video! No wasted time 👍✨️
Really appreciate the video. Going to do mine tomorrow so this will make it much easier!
Wow! No nonsense video. Thank you.
Is this the same with a suburban, Tahoe, Yukon?
Yes the bumper removal / install is the same even though it's slightly small than a Silverado.
I've got both of the 18mm bolts off on both sides but I can't get the top 15mm bolt off on either side, I'm using a impact wrench
Does every bumper have the same bolts ?
I like the videos you provide but I’m curious as to why the truck is being parted out?
What a chore. Is the hitch removal necessary??
Im having issue when I’m pulling it . Like u mention it’s hitting the bed . My question is by removing the last 2

Cant get mine off having the same issue
Curious as to where you bought this bumper I need one for a 2005 Chev. Avalanche
I took this bumper off a this truck and then sold it. Look for people parting these out to get a good used one. A non-cladded Avalanche should use a 00-06 Tahoe / Suburban rear bumper if I remember right.
Is there any way to just remove the chrome bumper cover and keep the actual metal on?
Yeah u need to remove the plastics you'll have access to both sides total of 10 bolts .its easier than this.
On my 2002 there was 2 21mm bolts that had to come out before the bumper came off
On bottom facing ground?
@@adamsorell4851 yes
will this work on a 2003 tahoe?
Tahoes are the SUV version of a silverado pickup. This will work
I had to remove the brackets as well as they wouldn't clear the metal lip under the tail gate.
You'll want to remove the 4 rear bed bolts I point out in the video as those will allow for the bed to flex upwards and the bumper will pull out easy. Hope this helps!
thats why he removed the rear bolts for the bed so it would clear

Great info, thanks!
A clip up where? I did not find any clip and this vid sure did not show it.
good shit man thank you
Holy rustiness!

TheHoodScoop but how did u grip that little disc once the little bracket broke that held the 2 bolts together?
@@jamiebouchard9862 What did you end up doing? My husband is replacing his today and has ran into the same problem? We have no air tools.
@@dollfus1035 dremel tool with a cut off disc. I think I went thru 4-5 small discs before getting it cut enough to chisel it off with a steel chisel
@@jamiebouchard9862 Thank you
You forgot to add that if you have your trailer hitch, you will have a 21 mil to take out as well or it wasn't coming out
Thank you.
Awesome thanks
Remove rear bumper on 03 Chevy avalanche
Removing the rusted hitch bolts without air tools and the spare tire are the hard parts lol

TheHoodScoop I would love to ditch my spare tire but the locking mechanism is stuck and I gave up on trying to remove it lol
The way I'd usually get them out is to lower them until the winch quit moving which was usually almost immediately. TheHoodScoop I’ll have to try that because to me, the spare tire is an eyesore and since I have 35 inch tires, serves no purpose to me as a spare lol
paint3ball yes they are
And then for the next 13ish years gm made rear bumpers 50x harder because they're jackasses. Thanks for the video man
Thanks for sharing Now I know what size and which ones to loosen up. Aloha.
All that rust😬

These trucks rust bad under the bed.
Crunched! Lol

He’s talking about the 21mm bolts...
"easiest way"
step one: get an air gun
ok my guy anything's easy enough when you have an air gun
You’re a liar, was not 5 mins😤
Nice blurry video
This video is wack
Is this the same for a 2001 tahoe?
