18:31 Huh. And here I thought Digimon added that part themselves. Yeah, fun fact: Digimon started out as basically "Tamagotchi for boys" before becoming the series we know of now.
I had a tamagotchi. Me and my sister got one. That damn thing beeps all night when you're trying to sleep. It was a fun little experience tho for what it was
I actually collect digital keychain pets and they're shockingly popular still. At first I thought it was adults buying up all the Tamagotchi Nanos in my area, but apparently they're popular with kids too. Probably because Nanos are both cute accessories and because the systems are really easy to take care of(I got a Mimitchi on my first try) and actually have minigame variety compared to the classics.
if you're talking about Tango Gameworks, from what I gather Microsoft closing them down had more to do with Shinji Makami's replacement unexpectedly getting sick and having to leave resulting in the company not having very stable leadership and apparently the company kinda downplayed Hi-Fi Rush in marketing as that it wasn't a game they primarily wanted to be known for, so can't entirely blame MS for that one, it was just a series of unfortunate circumstances.
i had like 12 tamagotchis because i keep getting new onces for birthdays and chrismass every years until i was like 14 years old and every time i drop it and it look dif from others though it was new and improof and it wasnt keep dying.
Tamagotchi were a huge hit where I was from. You weren’t cool if you did not have one. My mom even had one lol Then there were the fast foods places pairing them with their kids meals.
The only handheld game systems I owned as a kid were the Nintendo (3)DS, and the only things I played were each games’ respective Mario Kart. But I had to sadly get rid of them once their chargers broke.
17:11: The original TG was also resold recently (since last year, I think) in my home country (the UK 🇬🇧), so you can bless those virtual pets for shaping up my society.
Do people not know you could just pause a Tamagotchi? Not to mention you only really need to check up on it about 4 times a day, and feeding and cleaning it only takes a couple seconds. Far from needy. I feel like the people saying this shouldn't have real pets.
The one I had would always take a bathroom break and immediately sleep. I can't do anything to clean it up without ruining its sleep cycle or it wakes up sick the next day and that kills the old ones.
The only one I would call particularly needy would be the Tamagotchi Umi no/Tamagotchi Ocean. That one would randomly get attacked by polar bears during the day and you’d have to scare them off, so you’d have to pay close attention or it could just die out of nowhere.
They weren't that needy for sure, I had plenty and still have one of the retro throwback ones they released a few years ago. They were explicitly designed to work around a kids schedule in school and stuff so like you mentioned it wasn't all that demanding. I had no clue that you could pause one though, how'd you go about doing that?
@@Eta_Hoyimi The retro ones, you’d go into the clock menu, press A+C buttons to start setting the time, and just leave it on the time set screen until you could get back to it. Then the English Connections were given an official pause feature, but the Japanese equivalents never had it for some reason.

Actually there was a rumour that Mr. Short was forced to retire because of this.
@@jackcarraway4707 True. But I've never really understood why kids bring their toys to school. And I was a kid during the Pokemon Craze (early 2000s) and beyblade. I get bringing ur gameboy etc for lunch but I never did that till HS where its not a jealously thing.
Although it’s not on the list, I feel special for owning a NEO GEO Pocket Colour. It had its own Sonic game too and that one’s actually pretty impressive.
I had Tiger’s Sonic The Hedgehog 3 when I was a 6 year old child. I remember being confused about what was going on in the game. I also thought Knuckles was a girl and for whatever reason I thought he was a stand in for Princess Sally Acorn because I loved watching the cartoon. I didn’t play Sonic on the Genesis until a couple of years after the Tiger version.
As long as they don’t require answer booklets (looking at 1998 (?) Jeopardy! and Family Feud, which simply display number codes for selected clues or surveys and responses, respectively; Deluxe Jeopardy and the mini version from Hasbro after Tiger folded have the categories and clues displayed on screen) they mostly work as intended, though I’ve only played game show games. (If you’re in the market for the older games on eBay or Amazon, make sure the seller includes the accompanying booklet.
👋 Forgot you're planning to touch on this. (BTW, I'm still nostalgic for the brick games. They're simple, yet fun. Only that their build quality sucks, so I play the emulations instead, or just play "Tetris.")
Also, I just found out recently that N-Gage in Indonesia (despite the fact that I myself never know its existence). It is mostly used to emulate GameBoy games according to one TH-cam comment solely because legitimate GameBoy cartridges are very hard to come by.
I personally love my SEGA Nomad. I got it modded so it has a modern ips screen so the image is nice and clear and the battery life is quadrupled thanks to a new battery pack. Now it lasts 8hrs. or more on 1 charge using its usb-c charging port. I can't really say I'm a fan of the other handhelds mentioned in this video besides maybe the Game Gear and Atari Lynx.
I'm happy you get to keep making videos. You are among my most favorite comfort channels. You should make compilation videos of your stuff and I would put it on repeat as I sleep at night. At least be able to support you through views.
The N-Gage contains one of the more obscure games in the Super Monkey Ball series, usually referred to as Super Monkey Ball N-Gage. SuperMonkeyCherrim said of the game: "This is probably the worst variation of SMB1, like literally SMBJR is miles ahead of this. There are only two songs, and the Jungle theme is literally the first part on loop." For reference, Super Monkey Ball Jr was the GBA port of Super Monkey Ball, and was already on shaky grounds in terms of quality.
Dude, Tamagotchis didn't die that easily. It took a lot of neglect, and you'd get *plenty* of warning! They don't die if you drop them, at least the Gen 1's didn't, they had no way of knowing they were dropped. They might have broken, sure, but so can every other toy. And they were pretty tough, no real moving parts, just a solid little chunk of plastic and a little circuit board. Well put together. Besides that, when it dies you just start another one, you get over it. After Gen 1, they stopped "dying" and getting little graves, and instead flew off in a UFO, "my home planet needs me." What *was* awful were the millions of terrible, very cheap, knockoffs. Tamagotchi were hard to get, at the time, so China made millions of crap little dongles that had 4 frames of animation and didn't live up to the mark. Those were infesting every cheap shop, animals of every flavour, rather than the weird little round things that original Tamagotchis were.
Good to see you back Strider! Haven't come across your content in a minute so I'm surprised to see you talking about games but it's a good fit for you!!
Sonic 2 on Tiger was my jam. 😏 And Tamagotchi were so awesome. My grandma and I owned 1 for each. My favorites were the pikachu models and digimon. Special shout-out to the Dreamcast VMU's with Chao adventures. ❤
Glad that Strider are still going with making videos. He SHOULD do his top 10 animes (My nr 1 is One Piece) & top 10 puppet tv-shows (2 of my favorites are Thunderbirds & Dinosaurs), so i hope he will do them & talk about One Piece & other great animes like Naruto, Bleach, Yu-Gi-Oh! & Fairy Tail for instance and talk about Thunderbirds from 1965.
I think tamagotchi worked in the 90’s due to Barbie’s and other baby dolls being popular. Taking care of things were highly promoted to children and unlike today, yesterday’s children did not have vices such as cell phones (most). So, having one little pet that required some of your time really did not matter as much. Tamagotchi was one of the few guilty pleasures most kids had.
My siblings and I had imitation Tamagotchis. Ours were Gigababies. And yes, they were every bit as frustrating to take care of as you explained Tamagotchis to be. As far as Tiger handheld games went, the only one I remember playing was one that my Godbrother had, The Lion King. That thing cracked me up. 😂
I had a few Tiger electronic games....WWF Royal Rumble and Home Alone 2, Royal Rumble was my favorite. Yes I had a game boy and good amount of games....but 1 time I lost my game boy (kinda long story) so Those tiger games tided me over till I got a new game boy
My siblings and I are guilty of having owned Tamagotchis in the 90s. I also had electronic handheld Wheel of Fortune (a Tiger device), Operation, and Battleship. And yet we grew up with consoles. Yeah, I was spoiled.
Notable fact about the Sega Nomad: it is literally impossible to beat X-Men (1993) on it. At one point, you need to do a soft reset on the console to progress in the game. Problem is, the Nomad's reset button was only capable of hard resets, making the game unwinnable on the Nomad.
Ah yes digital pet toys like Tamagatchi. I'm a 2000s person but I've had a fair amount of digital pet toys, mostly Littlest Pet Shop-themed ones. TBH, I feel the idea was done better with Webkinz and Beanie Babies 2.0, where you buy a stuffed animal and enter a code to play with them. Webkinz is still around, but not nearly as good as it used to be, and I still miss Beanie Babies 2.0, wish TY would bring it back as they did make retro Beanie Babies.
Cool video Strider. As a kid, I had two of those 999 in 1 games in blue. They were pretty fun at the time. Definitely glad I didn't have anything like the Tiger Electronic handhelds or anything worse than that.
The Tiger electronics are nostalgic, and I think the concept was fun. Yes, you’re not getting the same tech as the Gameboy, but they have their place. I really wish there was a way for people to “homebrew” these devices, like how people make fan made Atari or NES games.
I have a Tamagotchi Uni and yes, you indeed still need to clean their droppings. On the official website it's even stated that they poop on the floor because in the place where they come from it's common practice. Also, I don't really think that the Tamagotchi can be considered a failure. It still sells to this day, now they get software updates to get more features and a new one comes out every two years.
Game & Watch worked where Tiger didn't for three reasons. 1. G&W's stylization with bold shapes made the graphics clear, while Tiger's graphics tried to be too detailed with thin outlines, which made it cluttered and hard to see what was going on. 2. G&W didn't try to do too much, its games were simple, while Tiger really wanted to imitate consoles with what they had, it was really noticeable at times. (Though there were some exceptions with later G&W that did try to be a little too ambitious, like "Zelda".) 3. G&W knew when to quit. The final one (Mario the Juggler) was released in 1990, only one year after the Game Boy. It knew it was done. I was seeing Tigers (or other manufacturers imitating them, usually as things like Happy Meal toys or cereal box prizes) as late as *2007.* But regardless, I still collected these cheapo handhelds when I was a kid. Seeing how many I could gather was most of the fun they offered.
I only ever had two Tiger Electronic games. One was checkers and the other was tic-tac-toe. 🤔 TBH, I think simple games like that are the only thing that level of technology was suitable for. Even then, it felt like the kind of thing you would play just to kill time while waiting in a doctor’s office. Personally, I preferred Connect Four.
ngl, phantomStrider always makes my day with the effort he puts into these videos, but small question if you don't mind, why not make a line of merch that fans can have a bit of the channel with them?, like stickers, a keychain or maybe a plush??
I actually got a Nomad as a kid in 1997. I had no idea it existed but man it melted my brain back then and I loved it. Except that, yeah, the damn thing ate batteries like you wouldn’t believe. But if you had a charger it worked pretty well.
The Tamagotchi part was honestly pretty badly written. 1. Every Tamagotchi can be paused and muted. In fact, the commercial for the Tamagotchi P1 you used footage for quite literally shows it being paused and states it out loud. 2. Most of the color screen models are quite low demand and don't die easily, the newest model the Tamagotchi Uni is quite notorious for this. Although really, aside from the Originals not even the Connections are that needy and you can, always, just pause them. 3. Tamagotchis have actually been extremely successful, especially this year, with models constantly out of stock. It's not hard to find comments on their instagram profile of people asking for restocks (don't ask me why they think the social media manager can help with it)
I'm surprised you didn't list the R-Zone. There are some pretty in-depth info too. I like it. Never knew that Gizmondo's main goal is to be a GPS for kids!

18:31 Huh. And here I thought Digimon added that part themselves. Yeah, fun fact: Digimon started out as basically "Tamagotchi for boys" before becoming the series we know of now.
What about the show?
I had a tamagotchi. Me and my sister got one. That damn thing beeps all night when you're trying to sleep.
It was a fun little experience tho for what it was
@@BrownMan-gg7dx you must've gotten the time set wrong, my tama never beeped at me when i was asleep
@@BanoraRuins possibly. I did set the clock on it. It would beep a lot. Eve. At night
@@BrownMan-gg7dx ahhh you might have set the time wrong then yeah. at night it's supposed to go to sleep regardless of status and not make sounds
Who else wants Phantomstrider to do another worst Peppa Pig episode ranking before the year is over to “celebrate” Peppa Pig’s 20th anniversary?
It should be appalling and "best" round 2 since that's what he did for the 15th anniversary
I didn't realize Peppa Pig was that old?! It came out in 2004?!
0:22 it doesn’t help that the ps5 has little exclusive games and Microsoft keeps killing their studios despite, how good their games are.
if you're talking about Tango Gameworks, from what I gather Microsoft closing them down had more to do with Shinji Makami's replacement unexpectedly getting sick and having to leave resulting in the company not having very stable leadership and apparently the company kinda downplayed Hi-Fi Rush in marketing as that it wasn't a game they primarily wanted to be known for, so can't entirely blame MS for that one, it was just a series of unfortunate circumstances.
Only have remasters and ports of PS4 games.
Mom: We have Game and Watch at home.
Game and Watch at home: Tiger Electronic Games.
I love seeing PhantomStrider and Boo in the crude yet charming style of the Tiger Electronics handheld games.
Never had a Tamagotchi but all of a sudden I remember the commercials for it. Wow.
I had a few virtual pets.
i had like 12 tamagotchis because i keep getting new onces for birthdays and chrismass every years until i was like 14 years old and every time i drop it and it look dif from others though it was new and improof and it wasnt keep dying.
i even had a pokemon tamagotchi.
I played a tamagotchi mobile game
Tamagotchi were a huge hit where I was from. You weren’t cool if you did not have one. My mom even had one lol Then there were the fast foods places pairing them with their kids meals.
The only handheld game systems I owned as a kid were the Nintendo (3)DS, and the only things I played were each games’ respective Mario Kart. But I had to sadly get rid of them once their chargers broke.
The charger port or the cord?
17:11: The original TG was also resold recently (since last year, I think) in my home country (the UK 🇬🇧), so you can bless those virtual pets for shaping up my society.
Lucky, u live in the UK, the only place I can watch full episodes of supertato for free.
@@renharris6504 Damn, that's actually really clever. I was going to put a battery back in either my tama or the gigapet AR I have so I'd have something to fiddle with during online college courses so it's cool to know that's an option now

"A wounded housecat of a system," is such an amazing burn, I love it.
I remember my parent bought me the handheld bricks game when I still like 5 or 6 years old.
It is truly a savior during a car trip.
19:15 My grade 5 teacher literally BANNED tamagauchi's in the portable classroom as they would BEEP LOUD during class. Honestly so many girls in my class were lucky Mr. Short (Not his real name) retired the year before as he was known for BREAKING TOYS if he found them in the classroom. Actually there was a rumour that Mr. Short was forced to retire because of this.
Idk why but I read that name as mr.snot
If I was a parent I'd be furious. I get kids shoukdn't bring that stuff to school, but to break stuff that a parent paid for is inexcusable.
I actually had a Darkwing Duck and Marble Madness Tiger Electronics games, and loved the crap out of them. 😁
Cool me and my brother had Thunderbirds, Stingray , Captain Scarlet and Dr who /Dalek
Tiger Electronics LCD games: setting the bar so low a drilling crew in Hell accidentally hit it.
Lol, maybe someone at Tiger worked at that Russian drilling site where the "screams from hell" hoax came from.
I forgot the original Jeopardy also has number codes for the categories, with the identifier on the sides of the unit.
👋 Forgot you're planning to touch on this. (BTW, I'm still nostalgic for the brick games. They're simple, yet fun. Only that their build quality sucks, so I play the emulations instead, or just play "Tetris.")

Thanks for staying with us, man! Your content always cheers me up.
Those virtual pets had a design flaw and that was there was no blinking off switch.
Also, I just found out recently that N-Gage in Indonesia (despite the fact that I myself never know its existence). It is mostly used to emulate GameBoy games according to one TH-cam comment solely because legitimate GameBoy cartridges are very hard to come by.
Y'all, I think Strider REALLY hates Tiger Electronics.
We all do
Touché
I either had a Tiger as a kid, or perhaps even a knock-off of one. Luckily, I also had a Gameboy Color, so I knew quality growing up.
I am so happy to see your videos again! I’m just so glad you’re able to do these. I wish you all the love in the world!
I'm glad to see this guy still making videos, what was the first video that you see?
Top ten worst animated sequels, maybe? 🤔 That sounds right.
I'm happy you get to keep making videos. You are among my most favorite comfort channels. You should make compilation videos of your stuff and I would put it on repeat as I sleep at night. At least be able to support you through views.
TOP 5 Ugliest Transformation Sequences
After Gen 1, they stopped "dying" and getting little graves, and instead flew off in a UFO, "my home planet needs me."
What *was* awful were the millions of terrible, very cheap, knockoffs. Tamagotchi were hard to get, at the time, so China made millions of crap little dongles that had 4 frames of animation and didn't live up to the mark. Those were infesting every cheap shop, animals of every flavour, rather than the weird little round things that original Tamagotchis were.
I’d only seen some select videos you had before you left the platform. I love that you were able to come back, and it’s good to have you!
PhantomStrider is back and better than ever! 😊
Tiger: "come on. You did me twice!"
Don't even get me started on the Gizmondo!
Love you being able to stay and make content that always makes me smile
Glad that Strider are still going with making videos. He SHOULD do his top 10 animes (My nr 1 is One Piece) & top 10 puppet tv-shows (2 of my favorites are Thunderbirds & Dinosaurs), so i hope he will do them & talk about One Piece & other great animes like Naruto, Bleach, Yu-Gi-Oh! & Fairy Tail for instance and talk about Thunderbirds from 1965.
I’m pretty sure Thunderbirds is available on MeTV Toons. It has a very late time slot though.
never even heard of Brik. Tiger was the thing for long car trips that I loved. There was no Gameboy yet.
Oh joy, did the patreon worked out?
うん!
I actually HAD a SEGA Nomad and loved it surprisingly
Thanks for keeping posting! I’d love to see more cartoon content-that’s what got me in to the channel!
I am so happy that he is making more videos.
Everyone coming together to make sure PhantomStrider doesn't have to retire is the sweetest thing I've ever seen.
0:04: WHOA, what happened here?
My siblings and I are guilty of having owned Tamagotchis in the 90s. I also had electronic handheld Wheel of Fortune (a Tiger device), Operation, and Battleship. And yet we grew up with consoles. Yeah, I was spoiled.
He's back? He's back. HE'S BAAAAAAAACCCKKKK!!!!!!
Notable fact about the Sega Nomad: it is literally impossible to beat X-Men (1993) on it. At one point, you need to do a soft reset on the console to progress in the game. Problem is, the Nomad's reset button was only capable of hard resets, making the game unwinnable on the Nomad.
the intro bit was pretty funny 😅
Ah yes digital pet toys like Tamagatchi. I'm a 2000s person but I've had a fair amount of digital pet toys, mostly Littlest Pet Shop-themed ones. TBH, I feel the idea was done better with Webkinz and Beanie Babies 2.0, where you buy a stuffed animal and enter a code to play with them. Webkinz is still around, but not nearly as good as it used to be, and I still miss Beanie Babies 2.0, wish TY would bring it back as they did make retro Beanie Babies.
Glad you are still here!
Cool video Strider. As a kid, I had two of those 999 in 1 games in blue. They were pretty fun at the time. Definitely glad I didn't have anything like the Tiger Electronic handhelds or anything worse than that.
Good video man :) excited for the next one!
The Tiger electronics are nostalgic, and I think the concept was fun. Yes, you’re not getting the same tech as the Gameboy, but they have their place.
I really wish there was a way for people to “homebrew” these devices, like how people make fan made Atari or NES games.
I'm glad Patreon paid off.
He didn't say its a Failure, he said its a St*pid Idea, which is even d*mber
Ps: Digimon is also a Spin-Off of Tamagotchi by the way
The PhantomShinji sprite cracked me up
Game & Watch worked where Tiger didn't for three reasons.
(Though there were some exceptions with later G&W that did try to be a little too ambitious, like "Zelda".)
3. G&W knew when to quit. The final one (Mario the Juggler) was released in 1990, only one year after the Game Boy. It knew it was done. I was seeing Tigers (or other manufacturers imitating them, usually as things like Happy Meal toys or cereal box prizes) as late as *2007.*
But regardless, I still collected these cheapo handhelds when I was a kid. Seeing how many I could gather was most of the fun they offered.
I only ever had two Tiger Electronic games. One was checkers and the other was tic-tac-toe.
🤔
TBH, I think simple games like that are the only thing that level of technology was suitable for. Even then, it felt like the kind of thing you would play just to kill time while waiting in a doctor’s office. Personally, I preferred Connect Four.
I had a big collection of those tiger LCD games, maybe they were terrible but they were the future.
20:33 Made me cackle 😂😂
Glad to see you back. And with a banger video as well!

You may have spoken too soon Strider!
According to AVGN, Hasbro is bringing them back!
Always happy to see you post, Strider! Never change! ^^
ngl, phantomStrider always makes my day with the effort he puts into these videos, but small question if you don't mind, why not make a line of merch that fans can have a bit of the channel with them?, like stickers, a keychain or maybe a plush??
It's not hard to find comments on their instagram profile of people asking for restocks (don't ask me why they think the social media manager can help with it)
I don't think he did that much research into these. 😆
So glad to see you here! Hope you're doing well, and best of luck! Thank you and the patrons for this!
I had a tamagotchi as a kid but I forgot to feed it and it just died
At least you don't have to worry about that with "My Tamagotchi Forever."
I'm surprised you didn't list the R-Zone.
There are some pretty in-depth info too. I like it. Never knew that Gizmondo's main goal is to be a GPS for kids!
