Post-Finasteride Syndrome (PFS) deformed and numbed my genitals. Tissue damage in the penis, structural changes, shrivelled, no tactile feeling anymore, inability to get aroused, zero libido and ED. I have been suffering from this torture every single day for years. Nobody believes me. There is no treatment. Thank you doctors for raising awareness, but I'm close to ending it all. I can't cope anymore.
Wow I'm really sorry to hear this. How long has it been? Did you start noticing these symptoms while taking it ? Hopefully in time and with good health habits this will reverse. Praying for that brother
@@Fedor526 developed the symptoms on drug, got better after quitting for couple of weeks, then crashed horribly. It’s been 4 years. It’s not reversing. Thank you for your concern, but the damage is done. What a horrible disgusting drug. I’m only in my thirties and my life is destroyed.
Tried topical minoxidil and derma rolling for a full year and never saw any change in my hair. Looked into finasteride a bit, but I didn't like the idea of messing with my hormones, so I just accepted my crown pattern baldness. It sucks, but it is what it is. I look good with my hair buzzed really short thankfully, but man I miss having hair and running my fingers through it and stuff.
I went bald in my late 30s. Hair is just another feature just like your eyes, smile, skin tone and general state of your body. Don't get hung up on your (lack of) hair. Anyone that genuinely cares about you won't be in the least bit bothered. Who gives a siht what anyone else thinks.
You made the right choice. Not worth the risk, which I unfortunately learned from experience. Been off of fin for almost a year now and the sides are still there.
Don't touch Finasteride. If you're going bald, then that is how nature designed you. As hard as it may be you have to accept it. Don't go against nature. It will punish you.
i’ve been on 0.5mg for about seven years and actually have increased libido, along with a thick head of hair. i’ve always wondered why so many people losing hair talk about this as the reason why they don’t start hair recovery, but personally have never felt any symptoms. good luck to all and i hope you won’t let fear control your life ❤
@_brandonkeith-te5ojthe information you are regurgitating here is from a rat study where they were mega dosed with finasteride. Finasteride also affects rats differently than humans. Better luck next time. Take your fear mongering somewhere else and just accept that you are bald and chose not to doing anything about it because you are too scared.

If you had permanent symptoms from taking this- like I do- and countless other guys have you wouldn’t be saying garbage like “don’t let fear control your life” to people choosing not to take it. This doctor says no man should take this for a very good reason- because the side effects it CAN cause are NOT worth it.
@@joetruth7823 you're absolutely right. In my estimation this drug should be taken off the market for hair loss. The risks are too great. I wouldn't want to be in my 20s and 30s in the same situation.
Not quite. The transplanted hair will be fine. But if the patient's hair loss isn't treated, it will continue to progress in the non-transplanted areas. Which is to say that if the transplant was done to the hairline, the hair behind the hairline would continue to receed, and look quite ridiculous. Suffice to say, this guy doesn't know what he's talking about suggesting that a transplant is an alternative to finasteride.
True finasteride even improves the quality of the hair on your donor area. Thats why they tell you take finasteride 6 months to a year before your transplant. As well as that it will prevent further hair loss.
No you don't, the transplanted hairs are immune. But you will probably need multiple transplants because of the hairs behind the transplanted ones fall out too sooner or later.
I've been taking 0.5mg (half a pill of 1mg finasteride) 6 days a week for about 5 years. I started around my 27th birthday, and I just turned 33. At 1mg, I felt some side effects (chest tightness, lower libido), but at the same time, I was also dealing with intense stress from being self-conscious about my hair loss and paranoid about side effects. After finding online that the efficacy is roughly the same at a half dosage with fewer side effects, I lowered the dosage. Since then, I have had no noticeable side effects, and my hair is the same with no noticeable hair loss from age 27 (I take photos once a month to track it). I should note, however, that while the rest of the men on both sides of my family are bald/balding, my 70-year-old father has nearly as much hair as I do. His father (my grandfather) was bald in his 30s, but his father's father (my great-grandfather) had a full head of hair until the day he died! Go figure. If there was a better test to figure out whether or not I was actually losing my hair or if this was my natural "mature" hair pattern like my father's, I'd pay for it. It's a little tricky for me to determine whether some depression I occasionally feel is due to the drug, my family history, or both. Many male and female members of my family deal with mild depression. In general, I have not noticed any issues with my sex drive or sex life, and if anything, as I got older, it improved alongside my overall confidence, as one would expect. That said, as I got older, I also became more comfortable with the likely chance that I'd be mostly bald one day. As you can see with both of these guys in the video, being bald does not mean you are not attractive. Some of the most powerful men in the world are bald. Some of the most attractive (as ranked by women) are as well. This is something I came to terms with myself, and it really helped me relax about the inevitable loss of my hair when I stopped taking the drug. Confidence, personality, overall health, and fitness -- and frankly, whether or not you had a good-looking face in the first place -- really are more likely to determine your "attractiveness" than your hair ever will. Some people also look better bald, especially in their 40s onward: The Rock, Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, Vin Diesel, Ed Harris (even looks badass with the donut hair), John Travolta, etc etc.
Any dose ranging from 0.02mg to 1mg or more has the same efficacy and also poses the same risk for sides, and for a crash once stopped as it lowers your DHT serum levels at the same rate. Also the second you stop taking fin all the hair you kept falls out, happened to me within 6-12 months
I took propecia 1mg for ten years. Worst health decision I've ever made. Killed my libido, caused me depression and terrible panic attacks. Now I am dealing with skyrocketing psa . I'm terrified. All that for f'ckng hair. I should have just let it fall out.
21 years of finasteride…held onto my hair…no side effects. Added oral minoxidil last year with great results. I’m skeptical of this take without looking at the type of males are having this issues, such as being overweight. Don’t attack me I would just recommend consulting with a male dermatologist in person.
most dudes with this are in super good shape. I actually rarely if ever see overweight people with this issue. you are lucky you have a strong homeostatic genetic baseline/profile. consider yourself one of the rare ones because while permanent and life ruining cases of PFS are not the majority (consider me unlucky), the majority do get some kind of negative symptom if not multiple while taking the drug which is why most dont get PFS cus they quit the drug due to how bad the sides were, before systemically disrupting their neuroendocrinological pathways, steroidogenesis and metabolic mechanisms, and ultimately altering their androgen receptor or silencing/modifying certain genes for the rest of their lives. There are many suspected and now growingly proven reasons some people are much more predisposed to developing this and it has a lot more to do with factors such as ADD and other neurochemical and dopaminergic congenital conditions compared to the neurotypical individual as these create a naturally more fragile homeostatic profile, therefore more susceptible to adverse affects from complete androgen manipulation/deprivation than someone who has a backup system genetically available when undergoing the same treatment.
I've taken it for 6 years. Had some mild symptoms after the first year or so but they resolved after a two week break, and I havent had any side effects since. Imo it is tremendously irresponsible to feed into the anxiety and fears of young men by pretending that PFS is a thing. A serious medical professional would *NEVER* mention a 'syndrome' that isn't clinically proven without at the very, very least saying as much. That is imo what makes these "PFS" scaremonger youtube doctors unreliable and difficult to take seriously. They want you to buy their testosterone therapy BS so they need to convince you that you have a problem. Hell, some people on the pro-PFS forums on reddit will claim stuff like "men who say they dont experience side effects are lying to themselves" its like they're invested in people sharing their self-induced make believe.
@@HarshMishra-ok3yp right. A dermatologist with zero endocrinology expertise male or female are the problem, they are the ones who would say DHT’s only role is to kill your hair follicles! forget the fact it’s the most potent androgen in the body, it is a ruthless offender of aesthetics, has to go
When you get a hair transplant it is recommended you take finasteride otherwise those grafted hairs can also minimize and fall out. There is also topical finasteride, which limited research suggests has a lower likelihood of side effects.

26 yrs ago I was on this and It took me about a month and a half to make the connection and although I partially reversed the effects by quitting, it never 100% came back. This goes beyond a hormonal imbalance, my blood tests and hormones were perfectly fine before and after and I still got full blown PFS. Mpmd has no idea what he’s talking about.. there’s a much deeper problem at play here and scientists studying PFS are investigating problems with the androgen receptors
61 years old. Started finasteride over 20 yeras ago at 1mg a day. Recently dropped down to 3 mg a week. No hair loss like my dad or brothers. No side effects. My PSA which i check at least twice a year sits at 0.3. They say you should double that number when using fin.
Could you elaborate more, so as long as you adjust psa levels for finasteride users it should not be an issue right? IDK the way he framed it as if finasteride increases chance of prostrate cancer.
@kamalimam8034 They say that taking finasteride somehow gives an inaccurate or lower PSA reading when you get the blood test. Therefore they say if your level shows let's say 0.3 you should interpret it as really having a 0.6 level. I also understand that its more concerning on how fast your number or level changes versus the actual number...unless its really high ie over like 4.0. So I check mine every year to see if the level changes which it hasn't in over 15 years since I started checking. As far as cancer not sure. A high number could mean that or just an enlarged prostate.
My understanding is that finasteride doesn't directly cause cancer but if you happen to get it finasteride MAY cause you to get a more aggressive type of cancer. I think the research on this is still not complete but finasteride or its label name Propecia has been around a long time.
@@joses5356 Thank you for the clarification. It does. It is a major endocrine disrupter and undoubtedly it modifies the Androgen Receptor and causes extreme overexpression in tissues dense with 5 alpha reductase. The androgen receptor is directly involved in the genome and gene regulation specifically in androgen related genes and 5-alpha reductase such as SRD5A2. Modifications to the AR can result in gene silencing and multiple cascades involving metabolic pathway signaling and cellular response such as oxidative stress involving endoplasmic reticulum induced apoptosis and even individual gene changes regarding homeostatic mechanisms and cancer progression

Are these side effects only induced by consuming finasteride in pill form, or do these side effects occur with topical versions of finasteride, such as those found in certain shampoos and hair treatments? My assumption, or wishful thinking, is that finasteride applied to the scalp will have, mostly, just a localized effect and not have systemic consequences. Were as the pill, conversely, would have system wide ramifications described in this video. Am I wrong?
Topical fin will still get circulated systemically like oral. Good news is the post finasteride syndrome is for sure not real. My only side effect from taking it is regretting not taking it earlier.
You can order lower doses topical finasteride from places like happy head which lowers the systemic impact. Start with topical if you’re worried.

Regardless of what is being said in this video we have our good old friend Science to point to. In the cases of the effect of finasteride on patients experiencing hair loss the majority got on absolutely fine, time periods of 1-3-5-10 years have been studied. There were those who indeed suffered side effects, some soldiered through and the side effects disappeared and others stopped completely in the study and returned to normal hormonal levels. Fin diminishes your DHT, and your body is actually very good at adapting to lower levels of a hormone. DHT is not that needed after sexual development. The video here is vague in the actual specifics. What is important about DHT exclusively to a grown man? Why is not having it bad? We can point to insulin and get solid reasons as to why it is essential, so I ask, why not the same. Simply saying neurosteroids is not enough. The hormone has been studied as important for sexual characteristic development and not much else, so please espouse, and back it up. I understand this is a conversational topic but it's just....nothing of substance to back anything of what has been said. Just anecdotal. As someone of science, saying "I don't know enough but the literature thus far says" would be an acceptable answer. People, take the drug, embrace the science and cut through the bs. 3 years on this drug and haven't looked back.

I risked this procedure because I wanted to get off the dutasteride (Avodart) drug. It has worked well for years, but all of a sudden my libido suddenly dropped off. I’ve maintained good T levels through my life, but taking a drug designed to mitigate certain levels to reduce prostrate size became a concern. I’m hoping that the Aquablation works as advertised and that I can stop taking the T reducing drug. And with that, my sudden ED problems will go away. I’m 63 yrs old but very fit and active. Just trying to extend my vitality to the maximum through good health and science.
Also at your age ED is more common. And dutasteride doesn’t lower Testosterone levels it actually raises it. You should get checked out for other possible causes.
You guys should look into the studies of 5ar inhibitor inhibition use, there was one study where 18,000 men were tested and there was almost no proof that sexual side effects even exist. But judging by this comment section all 22k viewers have pfs.
let me guess, were these studies done by Merck? where did the funding come from? do the authors have any admitted or not admitted ties to marketed hairloss products? that is your answer much more so than what their data states, which has been fully evidenced through the blatantly untrue "1.8%" get sides statistic that Merck is somehow still allowed to use in the drug insert. the FAERS database speaks for itself. It is very easy to publish findings with low side effect ratios when you don't account for or follow up with patients who drop out of the studies due to developing unbearable sides, much less the numbers of those in which sides never go away.
@@WDnation9 .. No. The study was not funded by Merck. You want a link? I have an inkling you wont read it because it doesnt reinforce your prexisting beliefs, but if you say otherwise i'll actually bother linking it. You just seem very invested in believing in something despite the lack of clinical proof. How do you defend - from an academic standpoint - the notion of presuming the existence of a ""syndrome"" when said syndrome has not been clinically documented? Why is it so difficult for people to accept the scientific method? And no, being an anxious 20-something male scouring pro-PFS forums isn't science.
@@WDnation9lol so your evidence is that its a “giant big pharma conspiracy”?😂 there are plenty of follow up studies on finasteride for safety and efficacy. The FARES data bade? Please seek actual medical help if you need it and stop regurgitating absolute bs conspiracy theories.
I'm a member of a international community of suffers. Unfortunately post Finasteride syndrome is currently not recognised properly. We need help and it definitely needs someone who could conduct studies and finally find a cure
You are a member of an online community of anxiety ridden basement dwellers who’s only goal in life is to try and make everyone else as sad and miserably bald as they are. Theres no clinical evidences that “pfs” exists and no one is funding studies for it because its a joke in the medical community. The people that have been tested front to back who claim to have “pfs” have nothing wrong with their blood labs except for indicators that would suggest they have depression, but no different from any other person that suffers depression. I wish you the best and hope you will leave that waste of time forum and seek actual medical help if you have issues.
Don’t take it if you’re not willing to trade a little libido for hair regrowth. People are taking it without considering the risks but than claim they’ve been duped and their lives are ruined. personally, my hair regrowth increased my confidence and my potency.
it is entirely possible to just use topical finasteride, a hair transplant wont last more then 2-3 years without medication, maybe 5 on minoxidil alone, but its pretty well documented that almost nothing goes systemic on topical finasteride, and its proven to be 5% more effective in topical form

Can you comment on the results of the PCPT trial (25 years, 18882 men, NCI funded) which showed that taking finasteride reduced the incidence of prostate cancer by about 25% over the period of the study, and did not increase the incidence of aggressive prostate cancer? Do you think that everyone with an increased risk of prostate cancer should take finasteride, regardless of the state of their hair?
Lowering estradiol and estrogens may help prevent prostate cancer better than nuking dht /5ar. check out studies on that. not medical advice. good luck.

Topical still has the capacity to go systemic in the body and cause lasting issues. All bodies are different. Be careful.
@@JetPackFlame So here is something weird that happened to me - At first I took the oral finasteride when I was like 19, and took it for about 10 years. @@schmeesmclaren1570 it does though, hence the fact that it inhibits serum blood levels to the nearly the same levels systemically. The drug is so potent it still hits every target topically as orally. Might produce slightly less effects but there’s many accounts of the exact same issues.

The issue is ur baldness progresses. And if u dont do something to stop that at some point ure gonna run out of hair to transplant from. Its not gonna be enough to cover ur whole head. Like these dudes here. They couldnt get a good result with a transplant. Too far gone
Getting a hair transplant doesn't stop hair loss from progressing. It's not worth messing with it especially if your hair is good. I started using it when I was 30 as a preventative even though my hair was still good. Had bad side effects.
I heard those hair transplants only last so long. (Like dental crowns.)
@@kenpe1455 that is a lie. They are resistant, but not immune. DHT will still damage them over time, it will just take longer.
So you're taking 0.25mg, right?
the sides come usually after stoppage
Any dose ranging from 0.02mg to 1mg or more has the same efficacy and also poses the same risk for sides, and for a crash once stopped as it lowers your DHT serum levels at the same rate. Also the second you stop taking fin all the hair you kept falls out, happened to me within 6-12 months

Don’t attack me I would just recommend consulting with a male dermatologist in person.
I got the side effects and i am very fit. Got them at 32 and have not recovered completely insofar as my mood and mental acuity.
most dudes with this are in super good shape.

The issue is ur baldness progresses. And if u dont do something to stop that at some point ure gonna run out of hair to transplant from. Its not gonna be enough to cover ur whole head. Like these dudes here. They couldnt get a good result with a transplant. Too far gone
And if you get a transplant, you can still lose the new hair so you need to take finasteride in many cases to keep the transplanted hair
Getting a hair transplant doesn't stop hair loss from progressing. Loss of hair is happening to your body, depression is in your mind. You could consider therapy or other cognitive-based treatments to address the depression, instead of trying to fight the inevitable process taking place on your head.
Sadly depression happens from finasteride in some men so depends on your genetics.

It's not worth messing with it especially if your hair is good. I started using it when I was 30 as a preventative even though my hair was still good. Had bad side effects. Stopped it and started it three different times over five years. Last time I stopped, as I put the tiny crumb of a pill in my mouth my body felt like it was rejecting it. No hair is worth the side effects. It's not just libido but your entire masculine drive people are risking. Ten years later hair is still pretty decent and wish I never bothered with it. Minoxidil has seemed to maintain hair well but I wouldn't bother with that either if your hair still looks good since you can't stop taking it.
