I ran into him at Disneyland at xmas time just before the album with Cherone came out. That was funny because when Ed did the Beat It solo, he said the band didn't know and Mike was probably at Disneyland at the time. I didn't have the guts to tell Mike the record with Cherone would fail.
What Mike doesn't talk about is what was said in a little two part talk about the BEGINNING . Their first contract was a big high interest loan . And it gets better . They owe Warner Bros a new album EVERY YEAR . And their first big royalty checks were about 80 bucks each .
If I had to pick a favorite Van Halen album I’d say 1984 is my favorite Van Halen album is my favorite VH album. EVERY song is good. Funny thing is the 2 biggest hits Jump and Panama are my least favorite on the album. They’ve just been over played so much. Girl Gone Bad and House of Pain are awesome. Hot For Teacher has the best intro ever. Top Jimmy and Drop Dead Legs are great as well and I’ll Wait jams for being a keyboard track. However other than VH 3 all their albums were good/great.
can't argue with you. Although I'm not tired of Jump I am tired of Panama. But I totally know what you mean about it being overplayed. For whatever reason Jump just never got tired to me, just too many good memories attached that song I guess.
i'm surprised that surprises you about Jump and the first album's songs. I mean listen to the first album and then go look at what was in the Top 40 and hitting #1 in early 1978. It's really not that big of surprise.
Heard this interview back in the day. Funny how I still remember a lot of the conversation.
MIke rocks!! Have met him many many times.

Thanks for this interview! Wow. Refreshing. Not typical.
no problem. thanks for tuning in. hope ya take some time and dig around the page and check out some of the other stuff. more VH/Dave stuff to come....
Thanks for posting
Cool interview. They really should have gotten a Roth album out by 2001.
would've been cool. who knows what the later history of the band would've been had they been able to make that work back then.
@@STEVEHEROLD Yep.
Yes. But years later, I kinda like vh3. But Roth should've been in the band and that album was an Eddie project. And Ed wanted it that way.
Thanks for the great flashback
thanks for tuning in John. Hope ya dig around the channel for some more VH content.
@@STEVEHEROLD Yes Steve I've been listening to the other interviews
@@johnoksys7713 cool. thanks. got some more coming in next few weeks.
@@STEVEHEROLD Thank you Steve I'll be looking forward to it

Alex has hours of film with Eddie playing Jump in its embryonic state? Never heard that before.
I’d like to see that!
Ed was inspired by Frank Zappa using his house as a recording studio .
Best albums: 1,2,3 and 4!!😎😎

I can hear Alex's dutch accent while He speaks.
yes, not with Eddie, though.. Too young I guess.
Ahhh what a beard
How ' Jump ' made No.1 but NOT one song from the FIRST album did is amazing.
Listen to Alex. Very sharp and well spoken.
