I was there with my older brother…right up front on Ed’s side…show was like 8 hours long and Eddie came out at the end played for like 25-30 minutes. Long long day full of amazing guitarists.
This was at the Riviera Theater on Racine Ave. near Lawrence Ave. A GREAT place along with The Vic theater to see a show. (I enjoyed the Vic just a little more as it was small and much more up close and personal.) But I remember going to this insane group of musicians and I remember this being close to 9 hours. I couldn't find ANYONE to sit in on this guitar playing madness for 9 hours.... so I had to enjoy it all by myself. King Edward, Sheehan, Lukather and Torpey had a set to open the show.... and a second set at the end closing the show. Yeah. 9 hours sure was a long time when one is by themselves, but ultimately it was well worth it. Everyone who performed came with their A-game and it was awesome. Zakk Wylde's set was just him, a stool and an acoustic. It was very cool. Won't forget that one either. The show itself was absolutely all put together by Edward Van Halen, and if I'm not mistaken, I want to say that it was actually David Lee Roth's idea to hook Ed and Jason up in the first place. Roth really liked Becker and wanted to help him meet his hero, so all of Roth's people reached out to all of Van Halen's people and Edward made it happen. Unfortunately, all that momentum, the ice bucket challenge, etc. has lost appeal with the public and the charity help Becker was receiving is not enough for his medical needs. Becker was forced to auction away the special guitar gifted to him and it brought in enough to just cover his medical expenses for one year. At 55 years old, Jason Becker continues to live and inspire, and although it has been awhile, has even had the help of musicians such as Greg Howe, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Marty Friedman and others in taking the music he writes and making it real on actual commercial production. Pretty damn cool of all of them to pitch in. Man. Talk about going to memory lane with this.......

Eddie Van Halen is the ultimate expression of everything that 'rock & roll' is, was and always will be about. As a pre-teen hard core Jimi Hendrix fan, it took my younger brothers time to introduce Van Halen to my mind. For me it has always been about who is worth going out of my way to see perform live. The first concert I went to was 'Black Sabbath' in 1972. Alice Cooper for years until the 'Muscle of Love' tour. Ted Nugent a bunch of times. My most memorable concert moment was seeing 'Alvin Lee' and "Ten Years Later", his awesome band formed after the ending of 'Ten Years After'. When they actually played 'I'd Love To Change The World' it was like tripping on 'acid'. Eddie seems to have mastered the electric guitar in ways that cannot be equaled or surpassed.
These guys all compliment each other better than I thought but Pats drums really stand out to me and I'm a giant EVH fan. Would have been cool to see Steve and Edward collaborate on an album.

This actually kind of ridiculous. Obviously EVH is a monolith in guitar history and Sheehan is a virtuoso on the bass. But Lukather and Torpey too?? Torpey is criminally underrated as a drummer. So glad I stumbled across this. And, yes, RIP to Pat and Eddie.
Eddie has a bit of the Hendrix at Woodstock feel in 'Fire' , during the chorus. Even though he wasn't a fan, it's cool hearing Ed play Jimi's music. Nice sound!
@@ScottMacLeodCompany EVH favored Eric Clapton’s work with Cream & always seemed to dismiss Jimi Hendrix in his interviews. & Yet here EVH is playing on 2 different Hendrix covers, Fire & Little Wing, in 1996 with the so called band they called the Lou Brutus Experience, at the 8 hour long ALS benefit for Jason Becker concert, that also featured Marty Friedman, Tony McAlpine, Zakk Wylde, Richie Kotzen, and Vinnie Moore.

How I wish Steve and Eddie would have done more work together and put out some records! They were great friends!
Jason Becker is awesome. Prayers and keep the awareness going. God speed.
These guys all compliment each other better than I thought but Pats drums really stand out to me and I'm a giant EVH fan. Would have been cool to see Steve and Edward collaborate on an album.
that drummer was none-too-impressive... and i thought billy sheehan was supposed to be some great bass player... i'm not hearin' it here, guys: okay, who's-that- _really_ ?
Love how they all respect the music
Jimi Hendrix e Van halen i due rivoluzionari della chitarra rock
O resto dos guitarristas são tudo copia
Wow - this speaks volumes to the kind of person Eddie was and to his soul.
Absolutely beautiful how Eddie was to Jason at the end.
super fun seeing Luke and Eddie play with 1/2 of MR.BIG! :)
1/4 of DLR band AND both guitarists on Beat It…
I’ve searched for years, for any unique videos of Ed, and I’ve seen hundreds, however, I’ve not seen THIS until now. Amazing! Thank you!
Ed & Billy such similar players but in different instruments, Steve such a phenomenon great support from Pat. Great show
legend♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Luke could sing lead , knew how to read music and theory . Played on 1500 records and could make things up on the spot .
Such a cute comment. So can most every musician I've ever met and played with... fans..
Kurt Cobain sang better and sold more records.
@@morbidmanmusic I was comparing Luke to Eddie .
@@quit293 Don't know the point in that at all . Luke vs Eddie .
@@michaelcollins8933 just saying guy who knows music theory and every scale doesn't make a great musician. Eddie didn't know music theory and he made better music than Steve's toto.
This is truly beautiful I'm crying because I have lost my friend to AlS I watched her loss her battle. Sir I pray for you and your family. Eddie I have no word's for your loving heart and soul .
check out the video where Eddie gives this guy in a wheel chair a guitar!! what a guy!!
what;s crazy to me is how he had licks for other songs already roaming around in his brain. about 40:26 he is doing the outro riff to without you's solo. Eddie is a legend and had such a massive heart! a true master.
Incredible 😍🤘😎🤘 playing loud volume max ⚡️🔥⚡️2021
Everyone here is so amazing!
Nice sound!
I was just thinking "what a full circle moment" to hear him play Hendrix! Truly amazing!
I would argue Ed was a closet Hendrix fan. Jimi licks and tricks everywhere on VH albums.

EVH favored Eric Clapton’s work with Cream & always seemed to dismiss Jimi Hendrix in his interviews.
If you're not crying at the end there's something wrong with you. Eddie was the true meaning of the word HERO. A heart of gold who never bragged or even talked the stuff he did. If Jason hadn't posted this nobody would have known. We all miss you, Eddie. You're forever the King.
You have some pretty Cool Friends Jason....
