While they may not have auditioned Gary, I seem to remember that they did audition Mitch Malloy who got the job but then quit after seeing Dave at the MTV awards.
I’ll never understand what they saw in Gary Cherone even though Gary’s great with nuno and the acoustic Saw the vanhalen 3 show for free and everyone would go to the concession lines!

Thanks so much for sharing this. I’m going to listen to Van Halen lll now 😎 Gary is kicking so much mojo with his band Extreme now, so much soul in his voice 🎼🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
no problem.... and good luck. i've been trying to get into VH3 since it was released. every few years I give it another try. just not a good record. they needed a real producer on that. thanks for tuning in. hope ya check out some of my other VH stuff on here including my collection.
Hey Steve, I’m on a Extreme replacement for Van Halen at the moment & really enjoying Gary’s soulful vocal performance. Van Halen is sadly gone 🙏 maybe Extreme can fill the hole 🎼🤘
@@majorfeelgoodrecords2740 that's cool. i never got into extreme much. to be honest i don't listen to a lot of music in the vein of VH. you'd think because i love VH so much and they meant so much to me i would listen to similar artists but i really can't think of another band in that hard rock genre I was that into. certainly some "classic" rock like The Doors and The WHo but they are nothing like VH. But i respect you finding a band to fill your love of VH. I hvae other favorite bands but they just don't sound anything like VH.
I understand 100% why they didn't re-unite with Dave then. But, IF....IF they had done a Dave tour in '96 people would probably still be talking about it. They were all still young enough to be "Van Halen" and take that car around the track full-speed one last time. Eddie played like a demon on the Gary tour, which was a great tour. So, the thought of him on a Dave tour back then is so tantalizing.
