This is Atlantic Slab (aka Atlantic Ridge) located on the quiet side of Ogwen, and I'm tackling the grade 3 scrambling route that is the easiest of several lines here.
The slab was once on the seabed and is now home to plenty of fossils that can be easily seen. The distinctive ripple on the surface of the slab was formed from the movement of the seawater and is unique to the area.
The route starts at the toe of the slab and follows a line never more than 5 metres from the right edge of the slab. The route is long at well over 300 metres and unforgiving; there's nothing to break your fall should you slip and many will choose to rope up here.
I did find plenty of vegetation on the route but most of it can be avoided and what can't didn't interfere with the scrambling.
Atlantic Slab is only a short distance from the summit of Carnedd y Filliast and nearby scrambles are Needles Eye Arete, South Arete and Yr Esgair.

I never realised that slab was there. It looks absolutely amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Atlantic slab is amazing.
Next time, if you could show us some of those fossils it would be amazing! You dont know how much this would mean to us geology nerds!
Hi Daniel, Just a note to say how much I've enjoyed your series of scrambling vids. Had to dig into my collection to to find Steve Ashton's book,. During the early nineties along with an old school friend and my brother we must have done most of those you've highlighted. Having been born in N Wales we were up and around Snowdon most weekends either scrambling, climbing or just plain hiking, I've lived in Canada for the 30 years and have climbed in many parts of the world but still have a soft spot for Snowdonia. Thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying the content and it's bringing back some memories! I've just got my hands on an original 1st edition of Ashton's book and there's a few routes in there excluded from the newer editions. So maybe a hidden gem (or a gorse scratcher) coming up on the channel later in the summer :-)
@@thebaldscrambler Mine is the 3rd edition 1992, I do remember us having a rough time !! in the Devil's Kitchen one winter.
Been wating for this never seen a video on it before I’ll be doing. This soon myself
Been on the plans for a long time but weather keeps side tracking it. Looks a nice scramble mate 👍
Thanks, I enjoyed this, it's a nice and long route. I think there's some steeper routes off to the right of the slab for ya ;-).
