its probably not as rare as they think, being immune. If they instantly kill someone infected, they wouldnt ever know.
Me and my brother have a theory on why and how they were immune so I do think it is fairly rare if the theory does have merit
Exactly my thought. Joel couldn’t have been out for long.. an hour maybe two tops? In that time they have decided they need to kill her and take the mutation from her brain. She’s “so important “ and they don’t bother taking time to study her and run tests?
The fireflies are losing the war and are obviously extremely desperate and they are willing to kill Ellie for a chance to create a vaccine… if it worked (which it most likely wouldn’t) then they would be able to overthrow FEDRA in a coup and consolidate their power.But they don’t seem to have the infrastructure to even do this.
The cordyceps obviously needs a LIVING host to survive. So if Ellie died the mutation would die also.
Or they get killed when bit by the infected

@@ka-izen I mean some other people covered it too but Ellie is probably only immune because her mother was bit while pregnant, Marlene asked if she was bit before or after the umbilical cord was cut and maybe that part didn’t matter maybe it was the fact that the mother was bit and it caused her DNA to mutate and make her immune that’s what I’ve seen a lot of people post here as well as what me and my brother were thinking when it happened in the show

Well he made it 20 years into the apocalypse for some reason right. But we know from the video game that that wasn’t all of them .Joel just got out in time before backup.
If you played the game and found all of the hospital logs from the fireflies you would know that Joel didn't lie to Ellie, there were like 16+ prior surgeries done on people who were immune to cordyceps but in a slightly different way if I remember right which is debatable since Joel felt it was and guess he won the debate?

In regard to recreating the cure/immunity within a person:
Ellie’s mother was bit before she cut the umbilical cord. And the infection was only in the mother’s system for like maybe a minute before she cut the cord. Meaning, if it had been any longer, Ellie could’ve died from infection rather than be immune. This also means that recreating this by chance (with other pregnant women randomly getting attacked and give birth within a minute to cut the cord) is unlikely.
We can also assume that Marlene is the only one that knows the most about the circumstances in which Ellie was born. And Joel kills Marlene at the end of season one, so again, we can assume that the information on how to recreate immunity is now lost forever.

I highly disagree. If anything, killing David would be the worst move there is. David is the only person who wanted to bring Ellie back ALIVE in the entire raiding party. So killing him wouldn't make the raiders not want to kill Ellie, it would make them want to hunt her down even more.
Agreed, David is a POS, but if he wanted Ellie dead he could've just let her group do their thing.
No, David is really the only one who wants to go after Ellie, once he's dead the rest would probably cut their losses (for that day at least) and leave. Even if they came back later Joel would have gotten better than they would have long left by then...

@@shelldie8523 would it? They had no 100% guarantee it would work. And I’m not doctor but many people have said that you can’t treat a fungal infection that way. And wouldn’t it be more valuable to run tests on Ellie first before you cut open and killed the only immune person you know to have ever existed? Also shouldn’t Ellie herself get a say in the matter? We know from the second game she would’ve rather died but no one knew in the moment. So they kinda just forced a child into a fatal medical operation without her consent.

Not much of a science background either right? Well what tests do you want to run they already know she's immune. And a way to pass the immunity is needed. It grows in the brain so they need a sample. That could be cultured and used for analyses.
So yea it would work, because it works for her. We'd just have to figure how.
Now for the game and series gets wrong you can extract brain tissue (a biopsy) and the patient may survive with nominal brain damage (granted this is in an end of the world scenario) . They don't explicitly tell us she will die, its implied and Joel goes on a murder spree.
This kinda reeks of ignorance and stupidity. Tugs at your heartstrings doesn't it tho. Which us what they were going for.

anyone else feels this channel's "how to beat" is just him summarizing the whole movie with different artistic directions and not actually telling us how to beat the dangers in all these movies. what was that other channel years ago that had this same concept but actually gave good suggestions on how to beat.
I've seen his other videos which provided more "How to Beat" stuff. This time, it was only two or three times? I still enjoy the videos because I like recaps. I also find it funny how his recaps can be ~40 mins when the full movie has a runtime of ~90 mins.
21:29 this mattress idea is probably a bad one unless the horse is moving at a slow pace... if it runs too fast, the mattress will slide around side to side or possibly even flip over and seriously injure joel unless there was a very carefully designed harness mechanism - and I don't think ellie has the time to come up with that on such short notice. i tugged my siblings around on enough sleds to figure this out the hard way lol. as long as it's walking rather than galloping or trotting, it should hopefully work out though.
28:16 if this is how Ellie became immune, then just replicate the exact same event, generating more immune children and make it more easy to find the cure.
True but for that to happen they have to get a woman that has been pregnant for 9 months and then convince them to get intentionally bitten instead of raise their baby they took care of for 9 months.
I bet gaining immunity isn't even rare but often times clickers and bloaters rip them apart instead of only "biting" them. Many likely died to FEDRA once they tested the immune or if they saw the wound.
Man I've been scared of cordyceps ever since that one documentary.

Have pregnant ladies bitten by zombies before delivering the child so we can have a new generation of non-infected youngsters who can create a lot more of inmune people. Ellie does not need to die, joel will be happy and there will be no story whatsoever
no because with killing ellie, only one dies, but with what you’re saying, they have to kill a lot of women to make immune people. And even if they did, there’s no guarantee that the immunized cordyceps are hereditary.
What mother on Earth would agree to those conditions of bringing new kids into the world? Wouldn't the smarter thing be to eradicate all the ones infected in methodical ways so that they slowly clear the area instead of creating MORE infected?

I would of done the same thing if I were in Joel situation. I wouldn't lie but Marlene, the fireflies are bad news, the way she just shot Ellie's mom without any last goodbye. She ain't care, she cold blooded. I get she's supposed to be tough, it's the apocalypse but you can't trust them people. Ellie would of died like the rest of the test subjects that were apparently immune and there would of been no cure so Ellie would of died for nothing either way.
Love how in the end you switched from "they could've done X" and offering alternatives to problems; to then simply narrating the episodes.

I think they really should of slowed down the first season, as In my mind they have made certain mistakes that prevent the show from being any where near as good as it could of been, if they kill off Joel early into season 2 then there will be little reason to carry on watching for me atleast, which will be a real shame.

Panic attacks and heart palpitations go hand in hand. Joel is in his 50's under, extreme stress, and likely malnourished. The palpitations could be both physical and psychosomatic.

They altered the original story in the show, becuase in the game joel fell from a balcony type thing and got stabbed by a metal rod through his abdomin, while in the show it was a baseball bat segment that stabbed him through the abdomin, then there is a time skip where you play as ellie as the main character, while joel rests.

To make me look super tough. 7:41 from the game we know that they have constant raider attacks. From the hydroelectric dam. That’s probably one of the main reasons he can’t go. Another reason is that he has a child on the way. Ellie doesn’t shoot the man, because she’s not used to killing people like Joel is. she has to push her yourself to even shoot

Pretty sure that’s not a heart condition bro 💀. The series is pretty up front with the effects of Joel’s PTSD through his actions. It’s almost definitely a panic attack. There was no previous alluding to an underlying heart condition.

Fungicides exist. Also the last of us tv show allows all infected to rally to a point, we are shown this in the show, it would be easy to exterminate all the runners easily by having them gather in one place and burn them. (Wood chipper is a terrible idea since it aerosolizes the fungi)

Plot hole of episode 9...brain surgery is not an instant death sentence. Eli could have had the brain surgery, the sample could have been extracted and Eli could recover from the operation.
And humanity would be saved and mormont would not be a lesbian who watches daddy get his head smashed in and go on a murder spree.
Problem is, it's very implied that the surgeon isn't a neurosurgeon.
In the second game, the doctor spews some crap that the Cordyceps can't be removed without terminating the host.
