I ran into the same problems...first when I put the arm on with the spacers the main part that mounts to the center of the tail was so far away I couldn't get the bolts anywhere near the tail gate, so I tried swapping spacers and stiff still no luck so i figured it was bent or some, I messaged extreme terrain, got it set up to be replaced. 2 weeks later I try again..same damn thing I tried a few different things and was finally able to get the bolts to pull in. Then the first time I opened it, also wrecked the door catch inside. Also took me all day but I also now have a functioning spare tire..I got a few small tweaks but it's working.
Yes, I had the same problem of the carrier being so far away from the tailgate that the bolts wouldn't even reach to start pulling it together! I put a straight edge along the back of my bracket and it was definitely bent. But I had enough go-arounds with Extreme Terrain trying to buy a used one that I didn't even bother sending this one back - I had NO confidence that any other one would be any better (sounds like it wouldn't). So sorry that you had to go through all of that as well... Guess there's a reason it's the cheapest of its kind on the market. I give the product 3 stars, and the instructions just 1 star - I'm just not sure if that's out of 5 stars, or 10!!!!
Was installing mine today but it got dark ill continue tomorrow. I didnt shim it good n the tailgate dropped a bit, tomorrow is going to be interesting 😅
It does look good! And even though the tire isn't clamped against anything, and only really has one torqued lug nut (ended up not being able to get more than 1 tight, no matter how I played musical torquing) it really doesn't wobble. Might be a different story on the road, but it's as good as it's going to get!!
My fear as well.... I am planning on making a strap from nylon webbing to take the place of the catch, much like it is on the doors. Let the webbing pull taut before the wires do. I think the catch broke because the pivot point of the hinges moved - and the new pivot point just doesn't jive with the catch. Would've been nice to know that BEFORE we destroyed ours, right??
I bought the same product. Your video was very helpful to let me know what I could expect. Thank you
How did you fix the lug spacing problem
To take one of these off the jk, would I start by removing the hinge pin?

I had a similar problem, mine came without the hardware and the hinge pins. Any suggestion on where to get hinge pins?
Did you ever get a lug nut on the bottom stud? Is it safe to run with a lug nut missing?
No, I never did get one on there. But the tire's still hanging on there tight and solid as can be! I'm not worried about it falling off.
It looks so good!! Sucks that it was such a pain to put on. I'm hoping I need one soon 😂😂

If you come up with a solution to replacing the door catch please let me know bc I have a sneaky suspicion I'm going to rip my wires out
