TeraFlex Alpha HD Spare Tire Mount Kit Installation and Review: Jeep Wrangler JK

The Alpha HD hinged spare tire mount and adjustable tire carrier from TeraFlex is Chrysler's #1 preferred spare tire carrier! This durable tire carrier is made out of a strong yet lightweight cast aluminum and heavy-duty forged steel brackets capable of holding up to a 37" tire and additional weight on the tailgate. Thanks to its slim design, the Alpha HD tire carrier maintains single-handed entry into the rear cargo area, so there's no need to mess around with additional latches or hardware. While this sort of upgrade does not get much attention, it is certainly necessary to improve the strength and capability of your rig! Since installing the tire carrier, I have also installed a hi-lift jack and two fuel containers and I can say the tailgate is still super easy to open and close. What size tires are you running on your JK. Entertaining the thought of yoko 305x70x18 or toyo 35x12.5x18. What modifications will be required? I installed a 2.5 leveling kit. Will I end spacers? If so, what size? I was hoping to keep my stock rims. 😢 if not, what setback will be needed? Thank you.

Great job man! Hey, are those gaskets utilized for the right side of the carrier included with the kit? I know that the spacers do come with the carrier for the left side. Lastly, painters tape will work best, I think during the painting task, where you corrected and removed the light rust.

Thank you! I'm glad I could provide some insight, here is the link to the third brake light I installed. Teraflex does provide a relocation bracket for the factory brake light, but it makes it harder to change out the spare tire:

You shouldn't have used those spacers. The directions clearly state to only use those when you are only installing the spare tire carrier without the HD hinge. If you look closely at the tire mount, the right side mounting areas are shallower to accommodate where it overlaps the HD hinge.
