- On this episode it's the previous champion Marvel Select Colossus versus the newest release Marvel Legends 2017 Colossus from the Warlock wave.
He's big, he's metal and one of them is extremely flexible but is that enough to put the Marvel Legends Colossus over the top and unseat the champ? Or is Marvel Select Colossus destined to continue his reign?

It was this comparative analysis that got me into collecting. Not Shartimus, not Anthonyscustoms, not even the late, great Glenn Webb. Dan made me rethink my priorities and my return to loving this artform as an adult. 300+ figures later, they still bring me so much joy. Thanks Dan & Producer Greg!

Marvel Select wins it for me. I was a kid in the 80s/90s so obviously I have more connection to the older costume. It also reminds me of the arcade game. I think they should've just stuck to the original design at least for this wave. As far as size goes, I think he should be considerably larger than the other X-Men. In a vast majority of illustrations where Colossus is featured in a group, he always seems to be near the back as he's the largest. Nightcrawler likes perching onto his shoulder as well. I don't see that going down well with this smaller figure.
the new hasbro cyclops from the 2 pack with dark phoniex also looks like the arcade game. You can put the two together now.

Between the Toy Biz Colossus and the Select Colossus, I prefer the former. Between the Hasbro Colossus and the Select Colossus, I prefer the latter. Seems we just can't agree on this one.

this is gonna be a rough one for the Legends Colossus i like the figure but that long neck kills it for me.... the beard head isnt as bad though
While I personally like the Select version more, if Hasbro were to release a classic Colossus on this new body I would definitely maybe think about replacing my Select.
It's one of those costumes that, no matter how silly looking it might be, it's just so much a part of who Colossus is/was for so many years.

I saw this figure right when they hit shelves a month or so ago, and that was before I had purchased any Legends figures. Now I regret passing it up. I was a fool for passing on the metal beard!
I feel like there's still more product to be shipped. Maybe.
Almost a year later, and I can say that I *never* saw this guy in the wild.
I'm not heartbroken though, as the Legends version isn't really Colossus to me. It's 80's-90's style all the way for me.
Update: Walked into a Wallmart I've never been to today. Guess who's sitting on the shelf there all shiny and new? ....took long enough, but I *finally* scored this guy! ....now to customize him into his proper Jim Lee look!

We've got a 4 Minutes of Less next week that will touch on all of the Black Series versions then a VS with the 40th against the first Mafex release (the reigning Darth Vader Toy Galaxy VS Champ) probably the week after that (don't want to double up on Vader in one week). I'd get the select because, I actually collect exclusively Marvel Selects. I personally think that with what you get for your money, Marvel Legends is a huge rip off, when for 5 bucks more I can get a figure with tons of paint detail, decent articulation, more accessories, and most of all an original sculpt. Unless it's a movie figure, you usually don't see that with Marvel Legends.

A bit of video archeology here, but just picked up the Select Colossus second hand the other day. Funnily as the Legends scale has grown slightly, the Select now scales just slightly better 😂

The first category is awful. It's basically, "which of these two is a better fit for the Marvel Legends scale". Whaddaya know, it's the Marvel Legends one. In terms of availability, Select is always available at a reasonable price. This should've been an easy win for select.

Not sure. Depends on how the SHF prices out. I would love to grab that pack that has Rocket and Lil Groot.
Select should have won the Price and Availability matchup. Finding this Colossus is impossible. Online, the price is crazily inflated. On big bad toy store it was sold for 24.99 and sold out in 10 minutes. Finding it in stores is almost impossible I feel like. Each store, if they ever get one, only gets 1 or 2 at most. Not to mention, scalpers have a full career of just going from store to store to buy every popular figure they have. I found the legends once, and, when I went to that walgreens, I asked them to check in the back and that's where it was. I know the select is an old figure, but you can STILL get it for cheap, and it's a 2012 figure! Plus, I feel like Select should win with size, now, I know on google it says seven feet, but, I was looking at some Jim lee issue covers with Colossus on it, and, bent over, he is still almost twice as tall as Psylocke, it's all down to personal preference really. Great video though, I really like these Versus series videos.
I almost put a paragraph in there about the fact that scale basically doesn't matter at all because it's really up to the individual artist's interpretation and, lots of time, it's more about visual effect than anything. There's quite a few artists that draw him HUGE. Maybe there's a geographic issue at play as well for availability. There are several comic book/pop culture stores where I live that have him in stock on the shelves right now.

..now that I've finished the video, there's absolutely no way you don't prefer the definitive Select version. It is the perfect Colossus. Maybe to millennial's, they see things differently but I'm almost 40; so there's only ONE look for Colossus. But perhaps you don't prefer the Legends version, you're just trying to stay as unbiased as possible.
I absolutely prefer the Select version. On occasion I will overrule the scorecard but this time I thought I needed to let it stand. Metal Beard and Articulation are really great for the Legends version and those carry a lot of weight.
You should compare the height of MS Colossus with the rest of Marvel Select figs not with the Marvel Legends. Just saying. :)
i like select still wins i grew up with that one anyway so buying that one would love to have the legends but i buy his build a peace figure i do not care about the size of his body .and select is cheaper than legends legends is like 40 or 60 price range so for get it getting the select one .

I got the select one for cheap. Only $15. I think it's bootleg because when you move the hinges, they chip and shows blue paint.🤔
No, they all do that. I got mine from a Comic book shop and it does the same, also the joints in the legs have become loose and the figure difficult to stand up. Great sculpt, but poor paint job and durability.

So with everyone (including yourself Dan) knowing Legends are over the 6" scale mark..the Select one is more accurate for sure. Not to mention big guys such as Colossus are always drawn way taller than their stats as well - and we all know that too......Dan😏
select colossus is 24 and the new one is 35 Im going with the one that looks like tbe 90s selecets goes good with legens.
