  • In this video I share why protecting black plastic trim is so important, and how I do it step by step. Protecting plastic trim on cars is an essential part of the detailing process, because as suggested in the name detailing... it's all about the details! Shining and protecting black trim takes the entire detail from a level 10 to a level 20, especially on jeeps like the one in this video. Because they are manufactured with so much black trim around the entire car, there is just no way to get away with not dressing it with a protectant and a shine, and when you do, you will see the difference. It is also extremely important to protect black trim because it fades so quickly and easily, protecting it with a dressing or a shine will allow you to protect it from the elements, and the harmful effects of the sun. Follow along in this video as I share with you how I go about protecting black plastic trim as a professional detailer!

    What about the hard black plastic strong the windows. I feel like the car wash strips are creating scratches on it. Anything I can do for that? Thank you. Great video, quick and clear.

    Just curious but if one would buy a used vehicle and wanted to restore the trim what would be your best advice for product(s).

    At what point do you use VPR dilluted with distilled water and sprayed on, vs. applying it directly with a sponge? Seems to me that spraying it on would be the most time efficient method, but maybe its not strong enough?

    Great video! Question....I have a Toyota Sienna with bad water spots on it. I have tried vinegar and claybar. What else would your suggest I do to get them off?

    • @wilsonautodetailing
      @wilsonautodetailing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jason Tubbs hey Jason, well I don't know that I would do vinegar and water again, but when you say they are bad water spots, the issue is more than likely the fact that the minerals have now etched into the clear coat, and no amount of cleaning is going to do anything, it has to be wet sanded and polished in order to restore it to perfection

    • @wilsonautodetailing
      @wilsonautodetailing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jason Tubbs but meguiars wheel brightener is an awesome water spot remover, assuming that it is above the clear coat

    "Hi Luke " Does the IPA percentage matter When mixing it with Distilled Water! In a 32.oz bottle?...

  • @robcook6120
    @robcook6120 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like VRP for tires, but not a fan of dressings on the body. Consider Optimum Car Wax and or Optiseal for plastic trim in good condition.

    Hi Luke do you use the 50/50 dilution in a spray bottle and will it ruin the plastic trim my B pillars need some tlc!!

    • @wilsonautodetailing
      @wilsonautodetailing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes you can dilute it with water, that’s what I use to dress black wheel wells, and it is TOTALLY SAFE for the interior, actually most of the directions SUGGEST interior use 😂

    I just bought a Jeep and it has a large black decal on the hood. Can I use the Meguires ultimate paste wax over that, or do I need to avoid that large area? Video ideas: how to wash the top of tall cars? Driveways of clients, do you clean them or what about staining? And of course, dealing with decals on the cars.

    • @wilsonautodetailing
      @wilsonautodetailing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome video ideas!!! As far as the decal, all of them tend to be a little different so I would just do some trial and error testing if I were you

    Luke I use the VRP and I really like it on tires but when I use it on plastic black trim it seems like whenever it rains and the trim gets wet it gets like really nasty spotting on it and it looks like garbage. When first done it looks great, shiny and clean but after the rain it makes my car look terrible. Ever had that issue? Any tips to remedy that?

    • @wilsonautodetailing
      @wilsonautodetailing  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! I have not ever seen that problem, or been made aware of that at all, but I will have to look into it! Does it rain often where you live? Like soon after you apply it, or just in general if it ever rains on it, it just looks terrible

    • @bfielder9097
      @bfielder9097 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I've read some reviews with it happening to other people as well. It's amazing on tires though and lasts a good 2+ weeks. And no I live in Michigan and we don't necessarily get a ton of rain and my car is garaged at night and anytime when I'm home. The two times I used it it rained that day and did it, and the other time it was a few days later so that time it definitely wasn't a case of it still being wet or somethng like that. I wish I had a picture to show you when it happened.

      B Fielder ya I would love to see it! Thanks for the insight! So good to know!

    • @TheNature101
      @TheNature101 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bfielder9097 I think it has more to do with the prep you do BEFORE using VRP. So IF the black trim is not cleaned before, then VRP will not adhere to it and the next time it rains you will get the runs. Use a 1:1 solution of distilled water and IPA to super clean the surface. Then you will not have any problems with VRP, even if it rains.
