Excellent review and comparison. I'm making the rounds on P07 and Sphinx videos and yours may be the best of them - very informative, very well structured, and very well articulated. Keep it up!
@J Helmsing - I have both the CZ P07 in OD green and the Sphinx SDP 'duty' (all metal) and I can tell you that they are nothing alike (in my opinion). They may share the same CZ DNA, but it's like comparing a Ford to a Bentley... I had custom sights installed and replaced the springs on the SDP. Both by ZR Tactical (Noblesville, IN). ZR Tactical does has incredible craftsmanship and he's an expert in Sphinx pistols. Check him out if you still have your SDP. The trigger now feels like a fine 1911... You buy a Rolex because you can, not because you need a watch. If money is an issue, then buy the P07. Thanks for the video and cheers!
MDpolo Gun Channel Nice! Am looking at the SDP Duty w/ threaded barrel. I know it's a DA/SA, but the hammer seems flush. How do you cock it without the slide? How much does your DA/SA pull weigh now with the spring upgrade?
Exactly. Everyone on TH-cam compares the CZ P07 to the Sphinx SDP Compact. When i see these videos it makes me wonder if the reviewers even shoot them.
I had the SDP. By far one of those most beautiful well built pistols I have ever owned. Mine was built in Switzerland before Kriss took over. Loved everything about it except the weight distribution. To me, it was top heavy. Steel slide, aluminum frame and polymer grip. It just felt off. I paid 1,000 for it 2-3 yrs ago. I purchased a czp01 recently and the steel slide all aluminum frame felt much better to me in my hand. I would love to get sdp but in subcompact unfortunately that pistol has had more issues reported than the the p320 and p365. Great vid!
lazry the subcompact had all sorts of issues documented by reviewers. You can find the vids on TH-cam. I think it was so bad that Kriss arms stopped making the subcompact because it has been sold out for a few years now on their website
I'll stick with my gen 2 p07. It's got a decent omega trigger, night sights and can bullseye at 15 yards no problem. It cycles everything from cheap range ammo to gourmet defensive loads and I carry it every day. Unlike all of my glocks, it's bone stock and I intend on keeping it that way. I love your reviews and can't figure out why you don't have at least half a million subs.
Thank you! To answer your question: my production is terrible, my camera is on a cell phone, and my editing doesn't exist. Currently debating on if I should invest and go bigger or just keep my humble little channel the way it is.
This was a Great Video! Like your comments about aftermarket stuff, there are not a lot videos on it. I do believe the P-07 Is NO doubt, and outstanding gun, at an outstanding price point! With that said, and taking zero away from the P07, thus gun is a different league. Yes they are both similar in most ways, that’s the point, they are similar. In my opinion, the Sphinx feels entirely different in the hand. It’s feels as though it was carved out of one piece of metal. It’s just solid with no wobble or sound of any moving/shifting internal parts. The gun you have, as you stated, is the Alpha and the alpha has the polymer lower frame. The SDP, just Sphinx SDP,...non Alpha, has an aluminum lower frame instead of the polymer. This obviously adds a little weight to the gun, but depending on how you are using it, carry, home defense or just shooting at the range the added weight may or may not bother you. The point about aftermarket stuff grips, sites, holsters is a big negative. Especially the grips, they are smooth and comfortable, but as you mention sweat, blood, water and it’s slick. Would be great if they made G10’s for it. Maybe someone will, there just aren’t enough out there to make it worth it. Hopefully at some point there will be. Great Video as always!
J Helmsing The compact mags won’t fit. The Mec-Gar CZ75B SP-01 16rd and 17rd fit and function. They don’t fit flush though so there is a gap. Perfect for range use or spare mags. About 1/2 the cost of the factory mags.
The SDP and the P07 are not the same, aside from the CZ75 heritage. The SDP is still based off of the original CZ75 while the P07 is based off of the newer Omega setup. They may look the same, but comparing them would be like comparing an M&P and a Sigma series. Yes, they share DNA, but they are different species. That being said, I LOVED my SDP. The only DA/SA pistol that came close was my 229 Legion.
i've seen a subcompact model on the internet, but never seen one in store, and I think theres only 1 video on youtube. I'd be more interested in that one
Will the CZ kadet conversion kit fit this pistol? They got two .22 LR kadet conversions now. Would be really interesting to convert this to a .22 for training! :)
I skipped both and just went with the CZ P01. It balances just a little better for me than the p07 and sdp and has more grip/sight options. Everyone likes and appreciates Swiss’s fine tune machining but I’d rather have 2 or 3 p07’s than one sdp. For what I use a compact da/sa handgun for the cz does more than enough. You can find P09’s for $350 right now on gundeals.com. A heck of a good deal for what you’re getting in a low budget CZ pistol. I may get a p07/09 one day but right now I’m still loving the all metal CZ’s (75B/P01). I wonder if the polymer grip on the sdp becomes damaged can they just attach another and not have to do a whole new serial number? I can see Sphinx pistols being on forgotten weapons in 10 years or so. The quality and reliability of lower priced weapons are hurting the sales of these more expensive guns that serve the same purpose.
Price seems to be mentioned too often with this gun. Yes its a 1k msrp gun. But like any other there is used market and gunbroker. Ive bought 2 Sdp Compacts for 990 bucks.
dude I swear I did not see your profile picture when I wrote my previous comment! Only after I sent it did I see your picture with you in uniform... I KNEW IT LOL>

What springs did they replace and did it help the da pull?

Clearly I’m not the only one who has worked plenty of OT shifts to fund my next suddenly necessary handgun. 🙄

That’s an interesting handgun! Love the edges, and machining!
It's a sight to behold for sure!

CZ75 mags will work in the Sphinx SDP. Also you can find night sights at OpticsPlanet. I just installed Meprosights on mine.
Good to know about the mags. Do compact mags fit? I know the compact 75's have 14 round mags and these are 15.

Yeah, there are absolutely no common parts between the two.
Great video sir, I appreciate it… Nice work
$900. Is it twice as good as a P07? Had an 07, sold it. Just couldn't warm up to it. Grip issues, mostly.

The subcompact was a dream ccw for me, but they're very pricey and incredibly difficult to locate.
Good luck I like your vids
It’s not worth the $500 more you’d pay IMO. But it is very nice.
This gun will fit original CZ mags just not the PO 7 or P10 mags
So it's an aluminum frame, more finely tuned P07
Exactly
@@jhelmsing As others have stated your comparing a production car to a Luxury car. U cant compare a Plastic gun to a hand fitted metal gun.
@@swisssdp5768 sure you can.

I’m so mad i sold mine!
Great videos but the lighting still needs work. I’ll still watch your videos.
Hopefully I'll have an actual studio some day. Looking into a real camera in the new year.
they are all copies of the sig 210. even the cz.
Brother, you look like l.e.. No disrespect. Just sayin.
