If there's one type of car that epitomises this period in motoring history, it's the SUV. So many buyers desire them and Jaguar wants a slice of this action. As a result back in 2015, the British company brought us its first ever model of this kind, the F-PACE, complete with high-riding driving position, four-wheel drive and even some decent off-road ability. Five years on, it was updated to create the car we're going to look at here.
Lower range models are pitched against desirable versions of prestige-branded compact SUVs like BMW's X3 and Audi's Q5, while quicker F-PACE variants must match up against the likes of benchmark performance models in this segment like Porsche's Macan and AMG versions of the Mercedes GLC. All of this requires Jaguar's mid-sized SUV to be more than merely very good: it has to be brilliant. Is it? Let's find out.

Excellent review. I own an F Pace and now buying the 2022 version. mostly because of the upgrades of which I found out about in this review. I love this SUV along with the state of mind that driving the Jaguar F-Pace gives you , and look forward to the newer versions. Thanks for the in depth analysis .

I own an AWD Jaguar F Pace with the supercharged V 6 and a Jaguar XE P 250 AWD and while the V 6 is a hoot and very fast, the F-Pace handles almost as well as the XE which is amazing for such a large heavy vehicle. The XE is a dream to drive and so refined and comfortable and such a joy to drive fast or slow whereas the F Pace begs to be driven hard on road and off road.
The F Pace is like a muscle car in a SUV car body whereas the XE is a proper Jag in terms of emphasizing luxury and refinement without giving up handling and performance. I love both vehicles but I would choose the XE as a daily driver and the F Pace for rural drives down unpaved roads and across muddy fields or on snow covered roads just due to the clearance.
As for emergency handling, the F-Pace is almost as responsive and as agile as the XE but the ride is noticeably stiffer over rutted or uneven tarmac. Thus I would recommend them both and I would argue that Jaguar F-Pace sales do not eat into XF Sportbreak or XE sales as the cars are very different in term of character.
What is similar is the great or rather gorgeous good looks inside and out with the 2020 updates. Nothing else really looks as good and handles as well with as much performance and handling. The F-Pace handles much better than the Land Rover Velar or an Audi or Volvo or MB SUV and arguably looks better than the BMW and Porsche SUVs.
MBs are not really sporty. BMWs are rather ugly and Audis just don't handle quite as well or offer the same level of performance and handling. That said, I do think that Jag trumps BMW for looks and handling and it trumps MB for looks and it trumps Audi on refinement and handling. Plus the German cars are about as unique and eye catching as an oh so common German dandelion growing next to the a far rarer and more desirable Jaguar orchid. Nothing really looks as good as a Jaguar although certain Volvo and Audi models come close, they are not as sharp in the handling and performance departments. Jag offers BMW levels of performance with better looks.

First time watching Jonathan Crouch's reviews. This guy (fine, gentleman!) offers absolutely the most comprehensive review that goes beyond detailing functional specifications; he expands into useful comparative market information like no other automobile review expert I've heard. So well done that I'm convinced it's time to upgrade my 2018 F-Pace D2.0 to a Hybrid model before the end of 2022.

By far the best review of a prestigious F pace, the 3ltr v6 400 is very much on my wish list, and I'm closely watching the used market for one that's 2 to 3 years old, wonderful review, many thanks

    Excellent review and very detailed.
I am about to buy 2023 Jaguar F Pace D200 and really want to ask you that, does Adaptive Dynamics option works in all modes (Eco, Comfort, Rain/Snow) or the mode has to be in Dynamic for ADD to work?
My local garage doesnt seems to have enough knowledge to give me a satisfactory answer and would really appreciate if you can please answer my query as I need to make a decision on the model and options I am choosing. Many thanks in advance.

Test drove this. Handling is excellent, both in terms of suspension and steering. It's rear wheel drive biased. And it's very stylish; elegance without pretension - it comes off as not trying to hard, which of course makes it even more cool. Plus there is good space, unlike the Porsche Macan. I found the P250 engine underpowered and would spend the extra $ for P400.
But like most SUVs, the center of mass is high and it is heavy. I realized I want something that doesn't have to fight this.
Either a wagon or a lower slung SUV. Mazda's CX50 is actually pretty good in terms of handling and steering feel; it is marketed as an SUV, but is really closer to a wagon in form factor. Its interior has a sparse simplicity that aims at elegance, but ultimately shows its midlevel reality. It's an attempt at interiors like the BMWs of old (pre 1980). The Volvo Cross Country V60 wagon is another option, but the lack of reliability puts me off. The Audi A4 wagon is too small inside, the A6 wagon is too long outside. The Mercedes wagon is too long too.
Or maybe I'll give up and just get the Jag.

Very dissapointing. Certainly looks more like a Nissan Rogue rathar than a Luxury vehicle Jag used to be.

Rubbish! No other SUV looks as bad ass as a Jag. The muscular lines and clear Jag identity are unlike any other SUVmanufacturer

Looks like a nissan rogue? Try put them side by side, they aren't similar at all.
