      I like fact that you can configure palm rejection, because on other phones what happens is that palm rejection is sometimes too aggressive and some navigation elements in app don't work correctly. :)

    That white and gold variation is beautiful. Honestly this hardware looks so much better than the S20 series. Chinese hardware has been killing it last few years. It’s too bad their software isn’t gonna fly in the US

    • @yohaneschristianp
      @yohaneschristianp 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not really, you can just install nova launcher if you don’t like iOS looks or an aosp custom rom if you want pixel like experience

    • @daviddaaannggg
      @daviddaaannggg 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yohanes Christian yeah that’s my bad. I was thinking of Huawei. Forgot the ban is just on that company and not other Chinese manufacturers

    • @ahareally
      @ahareally 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yohaneschristianp Sounds good - in theory. Different launcher will still use MIUI navigation gestures, which regarding e.g. switching apps are just (way) slower. Custom AOSP Roms are nice (especially the smoothness of stock Android animations) - sadly Fingerprint-Unlock is like hit and miss (I tested all Roms for K20 and K20 Pro). I know I'm kind of nitpicking, I just so wish Xiaomi would give us the option to use Stock Android animations/gestures. Then their devices would be absolutely perfect (with little customization).

  • @bensgadgetreviews
    @bensgadgetreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    OK so several of you have told me "there IS AN APP TRAY"
    NO, there isn't. Not in this current software of the phone. I read later it's available in some beta software that I have to go to a website and download and sideload. It's not even available if I go to system update on the phone.
    That's just too much hassle and I am not giving xiaomi a pass for this. To have to go sideload a beta software to get app tray is not the same as the phone having an app tray already.
    This, along with the complicated setting page I mentioned, needs to be cleaned up. I'm tired of spending six minutes looking for one setting. No other Android phone makes it this complicated.

    Great review Ben! The only thing I would add is that I think the ultrawide camera is the lowest one because most of the people use this mode while holding the phone horizontally and that way your fingers won't be in the way and they would more likely be in the way if the ultrawide camera was the highest one. And you forgot to mention the reverse wireless charging. Otherwise really awesome video! Would love to have this phone so badly 🥵

    I just bought Mi 10, not Pro and I am subjectively very happy about it although being a Pixel and stock Android person myself. Google Dialer, Messages, Calendar, and Google Feed on the left in stick launcher makes it stock-ish enough while many other things are much better than on Pixel 4 XL, except camera of course. I thought I will hate MIUI, but for now it is not that bad. I have those curved screens, I like to use screen protectors and this makes it very hard to do with those curved edges, but overall for 600 Euro it is a great phone. Battery life is not great at the moment, but I am still learning it.

Just a question Ben, please do a temperature test, even the most basic like on hand feel after playing a game or long duration 4K video recording. When I got my Redmi Note 8 Pro a few weeks ago I was also confused by the Settings menu. I have several phones right now from various brands (Apple, Samsung, Acer, Nokia, Sony and Redmi) and the way MIUI groups functions takes getting used to. For example, the screen timeout setting isn't found under Display, but rather, under Lock Screen. No big deal though, and there are several functions that I reckon aren't in other phones, like being able to lock the home screen icons so they stay in place (perfect for when the kids play with your phone).
    I was also hesitant to buy this phone due to the absence of the app drawer but now I actually prefer not having it. I can just dump all the icons into separate folders. See, with the app drawer, icons are duplicated in the drawer and the desktop. In my experience, I've installed apps then forgot about them. I don't usually scan my app drawer so I really forgot about it. Also, kids can accidentally delete icons on your desktop and if you don't always use an app you can just forget all about it if its icon isn't on the desktop.
    As for ads, I've tried disabling them on Xiaomi apps that I actually use. They still seem to pop up once in a while in the Themes app but in others, I don't notice them coming up. It's no big deal though; most apps you download have ads anyway (and some far more rattling) and it's not like the ads show up on the MIUI itself.

    Just because the 'rubber jelly' is the cheapest doesn't mean they're not better than hard cases. I've seen many a pundit suggest thicker jelly is better to protect the phone.

    Good short review! Unfortunately I am am very upset with the Xiaomi based on the last 2 phones I bought. The Redmi Note 8 was simply useless. No way to format a microSD card as internal storage at all. The Mia3 was even worse considering they still have yet to put the Mia3 onto Android 10 and both phones have the same issue when formatting an SD card, they pop up and say your SD card is slow. A U3, V30, class 10 card slow? My conclusion has been they are using binned parts versus high quality parts and that is unacceptable. They obviously do not make the microSD card readers themselves. I gave away the Redmi Note 8 to a friend who will soon not be my friend. Because of these issues I personally will never own another Xiaomi phone as long as I live.

      Well, Mitu loves Xiaomi phones so much, even if they cost $1000 and counting. He makes a lot of money from his job as Xiaomi's mascot. Do you wanna know what's his most favorite part of Xiaomi's phones?

    You should have the app tray option now on the new miui update, you just have to activate it in the settings. I have it on my Mi 9T.

      Some MIUI features are not only exclusive to different models (even though HW supported), sometimes they are even region dependent (same device, same build number - different options).

    What i am most surprised about is how phones have stucked in the 1080p range. Like, shouldn't QHD be standard by now? I mean it's been over 10 years since 1080p on phones has been a thing.

    Well said on the build quality, the ones who think Apple or Scumsung is better are downright foolish and probably have an agenda to put down great Chinese phones.
