  • We all know that a positive attack angle is a big key to hitting longer drives, but hitting up on the driver is a lot easier than it sounds.
So in this video we're visiting Matt Wilson, Director of Instruction at Baltusrol Golf Club, to see what tips and drills he can give us to help hit up on the ball with our driver swing.

i know the feeling my 3 wood used to go same distance as driver ,250 ish, and I knew it was because I was hitting down with the driver. I'm finally hitting fairly neutral and I'm driving it 270/280

Can't go out and try this up here in snowy Canada but took a couple practice swings in my house and I love how it feels. I have always struggled to hit up on my driver and I am excited to try this out. The tip of feeling like the ball is behind you makes soo much sense. Great video!

It was fun seeing Mike get so excited about this swing change. I’ve been working on hitting up on the ball for the last year. One thing I learned that could help me in my hook miss was the tip of feeling like you’re delivering the club face toward the ground. Now I just have to work on getting my club head speed up to Mike’s.

I think this is a great video on driving even for the beginner golfers such as myself. I’m glad you brought up the point of using the ground to push off. I hear that gives you more power, but obviously seems strange to actually practice. I’ve watched videos of the Golden Bear and he seems to push off the ground on his drive as well. Visually it defiantly looks more powerful. I’m going to try and use these tips on the range and see how it turns out. As a beginner golfer I’ve also been wondering when exactly I should release the club during my downswing. The tip about trying to hit the ball as if it were behind you is gold. Thanks for the videos. Keep up the great work.

Another really great video. I learned that all it is is that simple tilt back and moving your pelvis towards the target will help hitting up on the ball, adding a lot of yards. I went to the range today and tried it, and I gained 25 yards carry!!!! Thank you so much and all your videos are the best so keep it up. Frank's putting lesson helped me as well!! I would love that Baltustrol scorecard holder so hopefully I win!

I have similar issues right now. Never had a problem until about three months ago. Now I'm pounding everything into the ground, and left. Your initial setup and delivery is exactly where I am now. I loved the way he "fixed" you without changing your grip. His fixes make sense, and are easy to visualize. That drop the hands and swing like the ball is behind you is genius.

Okay, wow, the thought of the ball being way back there behind your right foot was mind blowing, I love it! That will definitly flatten the plane of the swing...which is key for distance because even if you are hitting up on the ball but you have a steep down swing your not going to hit it very far.....heading to course now to try to imagine that and see if i can flatten my plane sooner as well, thanks a lot for the video!!!!

Video made me go out and find that HZRDUS Hand Crafted shaft again. Bought a used one a couple years ago for a 2017 M1. Was a very good shaft for me and was a bomber. Tip snapped off during a round and I had to toss it. When I went to replace it, cost on the shaft had climbed and $300 was not in the cards. Got an email recently that they were available at a decent price so I grabbed a new uncut one for a Cobra Speedzone driver. It was delivered today so it will be off to the club builder tomorrow.
