A few things: The Western Conference caught up to them, they tried to wisely trade for a new core before backfired in the cheapest way possible, and they kept pushing until the wheels fell off. That's the price of being a contending team. If you push too high, the fall will just be worse and what a fall the Lakers went through. And then, no one wanted to go there. I think they're still in this dark age. RIP KOBE🕊️
They’re not in a dark age still 😂 They made WCF recently, it’s definitely a pretender team more than a contender team now but whos to say they cant achieve deep playoff success. Even if they cant win it shouldnt be looked like as a lackluster team. Many teams would swap places to be in this “dark era”
@@jnulmtd It's not the dark ages of like they're really bad. But it's more of they're trying to keep pushing with the tactics that they have and they just get unlucky or they're very stagnant. Even with the championship that they won it just feels like a respite. Management once again being complacent at the worst possible time and trying to fix the one thing that should not be broken.
@@cheekypasta55 That 2019-20 Championship was like the Yankees 2009 championship, a complete joyful respite and then painful memories around it. The fact that they even made the Western Conference Final in 2023 was surprising, considering all the drama that they went through, and you can say that was probably the worst thing that could have happened. It made them think that they were better than what they were and they once again tried to fix what was the furthest thing from broken, just like what happened after 2020. And, it didn't work.
That failed and vetoed Chris Paul trade affected team chemistry with the whole team especially Pau and Odom plus the team was aging which didn’t help when they traded for old Steve Nash and Dwight wasn’t the same
Really appreciate this vid. I used to hate Kobe as a kid. Not sure why. Maybe all allegations of selfishness, public beef with Shaq, etc left an impression on my young mind. It wasn't until his later years when I started to look into the kind of person he was off court that I learned to truly appreciate his greatness on it. It's crazy to think that he was only 33 when he played his last playoff game. He had so many more years left in him. It's crazy how that one ridiculous veto messed up so much about his latter years. He definitely would have had at least one more ring with CP. Heck, he might even have another if they'd just brought Phil back to handle Dwight's ego.
@@Jonathan-A.C. Lebron in 2013 was struggling against 23 year old PG and Roy hibbert who took them to 7 in 2013. Kobe definitely could have got another chip with some help.
@@0vern9K No, no he wasn’t. He was dominating at the peak of his powers. The team overall just wasn’t incredible, Wade had began having much more knee issues, and Bosh both wasn’t playing well and got outplayed a lot by Roy and the big boys. However, you do raise a good point. It clearly wasn’t just Bron doing amazing and that’s that, they weren’t perfect, and went 7 games with just a great Spurs team. I do think *Kobe* himself was that good and could’ve won, I just doubt it with whatever team he had then, and he’d have to have a lot better of a team (so like CP3 actually joining)
The 2012 playoffs was the sign that Kobe's era was at its end. You got Dirk getting swept, the Celtics big three fighting to the brink for their last game together and of course Kobe losing to the next gen of MVPs in the west.
Sorta, but Kobe was fucked over more than Bron. Bron made worse decisions himself, whereas the Lakers made worse decisions for Kobe. Also, Bron’s later years (2021 on) weren’t quite as good as Kobe’s last ones (2011-2013)
David Stern vetoed the Chris Paul trade because Dan Gilbert and the small-market owners had argued that CP3 (and Dwight Howard later) going to the Lakers would upset the power balance in the NBA, and Stern decided to heed their words.
That whole situation was tough for Dwight looking back because he had just came back from back surgery and returned in 4 months when he should’ve sat the whole season. Dwight still lead the league in rebounds that year but unfortunately the blame was put on him when it should’ve been put on the front office for putting that trash roster together along with the coaching situation and trading for Nash
watching his final season in real time was so crazy cause that team was so bad and we also had the dlo drama popping off and everything but that final game was amazing
Its just a shame that Shaq and Kobe couldnt check the egos and truely build an all time dynasty. And i say that as a guy that rooted for Sac against them everytime

I'd really hate for this to happen to Steph, they lost Klay and Draymond is his own problem. They couldn't get Lauri this year and who knows what'll happen moving forward.
I can say I really did NOT like the Dwight Howard trade at all, nor the Steve Nash trade. Dwight was still was playing the same dribble, dribble to the basket, trying to hook to the basket. He had no go to moves either. Lakers really LOVE getting old geezers. So not much improvement when I watched him played in Orlando, not sure what Lakers were thinking trying to acquire him.

Kobe really shoulda had more REAL chances, his last years were so dissapointing, he really shoulda had atleast one more ring
They had him struggling with bums and 2k auto-generated npcs on his team lol
I wonder how he felt when Lebron joined the team 3 years after his retirement 😭 “WHERE TF WERE YOU WHEN I NEEDED YOU”
He got his teams. He likely wouldn’t be able to win against LeBron in 2012 and 2013, and many of the others would have been hard

Imo seeing the warriors handling currys last 2 seasons are somewhat similar to the lakers on how they handled kobes last years.
He won 2 chips after Shaq left. Despite the bad years. I think winning it all twice makes up for it during the post Shaq years.
Shaq left in 2004 the Lakers didn't win again until 2009 so that's a dumb narrative
