Our building at work is brick and steel beam, we have a HDTV in the lobby. We've tried 4 different antennas (1) 30 mile, (1) 60 mile and (2) amplified 60 mile. None of them have been reliable and zero have been able to pull in CBS on VHF. Watched your TH-cam video and decided to give it a try. You are exactly right... a stick of dynamite! It has been THE ONLY antenna to pull in VHF channels, and all of the UHF channels have solid reception. The proofs in the pudding and your antenna has delivered. Our secretary will have a Christmas surprise when she returns to work and sees the Price is Right on CBS/VHF. Thank you much for the DIY video.

Thank You, I build my antenna per your instructions with only a few modifications. The main modification that I made was I combined the UHF and VFH signals and ran it to a CannelMaster 3414 4-port distribution amplifier and ran it to 4 TVs in my home. All the TVs get excellent reception with over 40 channels here in North Las Vegas. Again ,Thank you.

I made one based on this design, I have in attic with 50 foot RG6 coax leading thru walls to garage where I have a 4 port channel master amplifier that goes to 3 TVs in house. The only thing I did different is I removed my reflector and I had a better result (in my area my towers are in all directions so a reflector worked against me). Also I used 8 gauge copper, made bends at 9.5" instead of 6 making my copper length of 76", then for mount I used a 4 foot long 2x2 with PCV "T" mounted to that with "L" bracket. This design outperformed the Clearstream 4-Max which retails for 149.00. I only spent 12 in parts to make this antenna. I never thought of using a drill to straighten out that copper. Thanks Danny.

"Genetic and behavioral factors influencing religiously motivated behavior appear related to dopamine metabolism and signaling. Inclination toward religious behavior and motivation has been associated with a polymorphism on the dopamine receptor gene DRD4 (Comings, Gonzales, Saucier, Johnson, & MacMurray, 2000;Sasaki et al., 2013). Acquired disorders of dopamine physiology also show links to religious behaviors."

These neurological processes reinforce neural pathways (bridging literal gaps) in the brain in order to repeat thoughts, and behaviours like energy gathering (eating) along with specie perpetuation (sex). Going from drug addiction to Religion is just a placebo switcharoo (not a miracle).
Dopamine in varying levels is also related to creativity, patternicity, making nonsense make sense, and hallucinations (involuntary movements, tactile/feeling embraced, and speaking in tongues are also forms of hallucinations). Also see "Dopamine Hypothesis". Note that Paul was schizophrenic (2 Cor. 12:9), the early church was encouraged to hallucinate (Gal. 3:1-5), and perform glossolalia (1 Cor. 12:10).
"Dopamine, adrenaline, and noradrenaline are neurotransmitters that belong to the catecholamine family. Dopamine is produced in the substantia nigra and ventral tegmental regions of the brain, and dopamine alterations are related to schizophrenia (1, 2). Dopaminergic projections are divided into the nigrostriatal, mesolimbic, and mesocortical systems. Impairments in the dopamine system result from dopamine dysfunctions in the substantia nigra, ventral tegmental region, striatum, prefrontal cortex, and hippocampus (3-5). The “original dopamine hypothesis” states that hyperactive dopamine transmission results in schizophrenic symptoms."

"Dopamine In schizophrenia (SCZ), there is evidence that very high levels of dopamine in the limbic system play a major role in emergence of hallucinations and delusions. Antipsychotic medications, which block central dopamine activity, alleviate the hallucinations of psychosis. Drugs with strong dopaminergic effect, such as L-dopa, methylphenidate, bromocriptine, pramipexole and piribedil, may induce hallucinations. Danny, the bottom antenna is called a bi-quad. The top is called a dipole. The bi-quad can be improved by adding 2 more diamond or squares on each end. 2 can be enough if the signals you are wanting are strong enough. If the signals are weak add the two extra but do not let them touch at the corners. Your reflector will work better if they are 2 1/2 inches or so from the main element. You can experiment by moving your reflector to find an improved spot. And then again you may not for reception only. But try it some time.

Amplifiers only benefit the signal if it is above the noise floor of the amplifier, they are used for long cable run line loss or the signal is split to a few receivers. A broad band amp would never have a better noise figure than a tuner, so putting an amplifier right next to a receivers Ant input would not help. Signal to noise ratio is the important part and ATSC has a tolerance for noise. Cable companies do not use ATSC because it takes too much bandwidth they use QAM .

I subscribed because you have some good antenna ideas. I have 40 years experience in electronics, but am impressed by your antenna design. I used to work at a cable tv company as a bench tech and it was my job to test many kinds of matching-transformers (baluns). You are right that they are not all the same. Some of them will not pass UHF. A good method of testing any design is using the TV menu to select CHANNEL SEARCH and write down the signal level. Most tv's have that feature. I used a wavetek sweep analyzer, but the TV signal level meter would give you a good enough reading to compare various antennas. Excellent video and I can't wait to see what else you have on your channel. Dave Mundy from St. Louis, Missouri.

Brother I live in Terre Haute, Indiana. I watched your video and I got homesick for Okeechobee, Florida. I'm a disabled veteran with too much time on my hands and too little grocery money. I was a 31L Cable Dawg (Wiring Systems Installer) on the troubleshooting side, instead of installations. I like to take stuff apart and understand how it works, anyhow I came upon your Antenna Tutorial and after the first minute I subscribed to all three of your channels. I'm going to be moving closer to my Daughter soon, south and west of Atlanta. Maybe I'll see you around, til then keep a'hookin Son!

Thanks for the video. Made a few myself and one design worked better than any other and I gave it away. I figured the next one would be just as good but could never duplicate the success of that one antenna. Don't know if it was the wire, mesurements or what but I'm still trying. The design with wire coat hangers worked fine but I keep trying to get more distant stations. Never had luck using two antennas pointed in I different directions. Bottom line, its fun trying to make one better.

Good stuff...I learned how to make one right when DTV started. I got my design from a Popular Mechanics article. I made one with larger wire and a 6 foot 2x2 mahogany plank and when I was done, I was picking up WBTV out of Charlotte N.C. from our little farmhouse in Leicester N,C It was a big contraption with 4 V's on each side and the wire was roughly 4 ft. long each way. Without any booster, I was picking up a Charlotte station inside the house ! and we were a minimum of 100 miles from the broadcast station, probably more so if it is a straight shot to the signal, that always helps.
Now that I've seen your design, I think I'll build another one and make it a hybrid type with a backboard like yours. We have Spectrum Digital Cable as part of our rent but if we didn't, I would use only an antenna. Great job...I'm going to look at more of your clips. Keep at it, it's great !

Hi,Danny. You might solder the 300-ohm side of the balun to the copper elements, prevents trouble a few years down the road. And that device you are talking about for combining vhf and uhf signals is called a splitter-combiner.Phasing lines mounted behind the reflector can be used instead(check the theory in the ARRL handbook). I've used both. And the booster is to make up for any losses in the line. From an old tech in the Canadian maritimes.

Why VHF? Hasn't all the new digital gone to UHF?
Normally height is more important that gain. That being the case I built a fan dipole with 3 elements for my camper so I could string it up a tree and it works great here in Texarkana. I forget how many stations but was 5-6. We went camping up in the Ozarks I strung it up 15ft and zero! But its a deep valley where we go camping.
I am thinking of building a Slim Jim next. This way I can pull it higher in the tree and it has more gain.

Constructed primarily from scrap at hand I build two bow-ties on a single refector of just undersized and just oversized of your seven inch baseline, connected to each other with cheap 300 Ohm antenna lead and tapped equidistant with the balun terminals. My copper rod is solid core home construction wire remnents, often I leave the insulation on, which doesn't seem to affect performance at first but much later, having no patina, those antennas have better signal strength than ones I've built with stripped 12 gauge home wiring. To minimize bimetalic corrosion, I use brass screws recovered from old TVs and strip the balun ends to copper then twist and curl onto the screw, soldered, then seal that terminal under hotglue. My balun is the amplifier as well, DC powered by the indoor end of the CoAxial. I even use scrapped and discarded weather hardened twin coaxial cable from homeowners who have decided to "cut the cable" from their Frontier communications provider bill to bring the signal inside. Even the mount is recovered from the wooden yard stakes of candidate signs left over after elections which I wrap to the plumbing riser vents on the roof with discarded coat hanger wire. I use a staple gun to mount the reflector on the back of the stake, and insulate the staples on the front for the bow-ties with end of a long thin strip of home construction roofing felt remnant, cut away from the staple after being attached. My best reflector was powder coated perforated steel cut from a security screen door, second best reflector was expanded aluminum from the bottom of a screen door painted with Rust-Oleum - both paint jobs were as discarded, not my idea. Decent refectors I've salvaged small stainless steel racks from mini-fridges and toaster-ovens, but I've never used rabbit-hutch wire (is that what you use?) The digital ATSC signal is fine with this UHF only design and so, not needing FM radio, I do not include VHF dipoles.
How dare I claim 'design'? I stole that from ANOTHER guy on TH-cam! The most expensive bits of my antennas are the amplifier pair. As measured by the digital tuner setup screen, the signal seems unaffected when the antenna is hung from attic rafters. The signal strength from my antennas are far supierior to and beats anything available from WorstBuy (Best Buy), and, being built from scrap at hand, is a miniscule fraction of the cost. I like your use of PVC but I have no T's or elbows, just plenty of demolition piping which I've used for masts. I learned from you the 'twist' to straighten the wire, but I will still chase the kinks from the wire by hand as best I can first, then twist. I can't disagree, for digital TV, bowties beat all. Why buy "Free TV Key" when you can build your own, more durable, and with better reception? Do you know why you buy one and get the other "free?" Because when it breaks, that was the "free" one!

Instead of 6", try 7.5" as that's the resonant frequency for the middle of channels 7-13. The middle of the UHF band is around 4.25" while 6" is the bottom of the UHF band, and just over 3" is the top of the UHF. Thanks for your dedication.
