As someone who has been playing League of Legends on and off since 2012, and has consistently been watching the professional scene, I have to say that the 2022 opening ceremony was quite lackluster (at least most of it), It wasn't the worst, but far from the best...
I just didn't feel like the songs really fit. It just didn't feel like League of Legends. Previous years always made you feel hyped, while this year didn't do that in the same way.
Although I have to say that the first minute or so, when the players are initially introduced was one of if not the best part of an opening ceremony ever.
6 months later and it still gives me goosebumps, thinking about the storylines that all led to that very moment.

I really think you should watch the One and Only Champion it goes over the story of both teams for the 2022 World Championship teams. I really think you would enjoy it

Ironically that's also why the community didn't like last years worlds song as much as the 2017-2021 ones - while you didn't even mention the songtext and u only got it from the performance here the 2022 song was more like a pop song written by that singer for himself, not for the game. Also gz - that's actually the second time I've watched this opening ceremony 2022 while I've watched like every reactor there is on YT for all the others. As some1 who watched all the other 400something lol videos u did that should tell you everything about my opinion :D
Also FYI worlds is like 6 weeks long event mostly starting end of september and ending in the beginning of november like 1 week before season end (which is mostly around 11.11.) - so expect the next opening ceremony in around 7 months. We had Star Guardians (which you still have to watch like 7 videos from :p) last summer and Arcane won't come out in 2023, so I kinda hope they bring back K/DA again for this years big worlds event ^.^

yep its a good pop/ top 40's song but its not a hype song. best i heard is "it is great for when walking out of worlds not in to worlds".

      It's just not hype enough
I actually really like the song but it's too chill

I like the lil naz song but it really doesn't match the "worlds" hype imo

League worlds championship is done in different countries year by year. 2019 was on Europe 4 or 5 were involved last year was only a few games on Mexico there going ton be some on cananda but by pandemic can't done so United states took mist of the games and main stages. so I think all the thematic and ideas are created by teamworks from the region for the open ceremony changes by region so maybe that's why look different. This year world's are going to be on south Korea lets see what they got for they ceremony.

I would love to see you reacting some Brazil's tournament(cblol) finals. The production level is insane

Thanks for your reaction and honest feedback as always, a pleasure to see - valid positives and negatives! Just wanna insist on how important it is. So thank you.
I feel like the way they handled lighting was especially good this year, at the same time though, it seems it wasn't dark enough for the holonet thingies to work as seamlessly as the 2019 one, imho. It wasn't as crystal clear. I was super hyped watching this live though and I loved the whole thing, especially the part after the live performances, which features a montage about this year's "storyline" which is the most important and hype of the last decade. But it can only be fully appreciated if you're aware of the history of it all and so I don't think it's important for you to watch at this time, not a good use of time.
Also this year the playback was super super obvious, especially the last part with Lil Nas x. In previous years it was either fully live or at least partially live with backing vocals or whatever you call those. Anyway. I mentioned this in a previous comment but watching a video from the audience pov is somehow way better to appreciate the light show especially. It's amazing.
I will lastly recommend the 2019 MSI opening ceremony - it's creative and it will be interesting for you to react to it in my opinion. Take care 😄

This worlds had mixed reactions from me. First up, the song itself wasn't my favorite and yeah I felt like the ceremony focused more on the singer (whom I've never heard of before). For the purpose of getting me HYPE ABOUT THE GAME ITSELF, it didn't do nearly as well as 2019... or even 2021 for that matter. FYI, the song Star Walking came out a while before the finals itself. I (and seemingly others), weren't that interested in the song.
My favorite world's anthem to this day is still 2018's RISE. Following that is 2021's Burn It All Down. Just watch the official video for either of them, then compare to 2022's Star Walking. The latter just doesn't hit the same way for hyping up a tournament. That said, the song itself now divorced from the competition itself has grown on me. It's very hummable. Stil, if you're using a song but have to censor it for the live performance (he did the thing where he mutes himself instead of saying condom I think), then maybe you should have chosen a different song in the first place. Or let someone else write it. That's part of why it felt like to me that it wasn't nearly about the game/competition as it could have been.
I still can't help but give RIOT's team even to this day some slack due to Covid, especially since the finals was hosted in America this time and we didn't exactly handle the pandemic or recovery from it very well.
Overall yeah the ceremony was mid. I didn't think it was outright bad or failing. But if 2019 was the A+ benchmark, 2020 was a D, 2021 was a B for me, then 2022 was a solid C+. Still passing, but dissapointing from the high.
That said, the finals themselves WERE THE MOST HYPE SERIES OF GAMES OF ANY WORLDS FINALS TO DATE AND COMPLETELY OVERSHADOWED THE CEREMONY. 2019 had the best ceremony, but G2 (EU) got absolutely destroyed by FPX (China's Fun Plus Pheonix) and it wasn't close. This finals was an absolute roller coaster of the best players in the world and it was glorious.

    I really appreciate the honesty!
As someone that have been watching the ceremonies in real time since 2014 and is always looking forward for the next year, especially this one because we were finally free from the ghost (that is not the best they can do because of covid) I couldn't agree more with you, It's like they made the entire opening for Lil Nas X, not the players, game or the fans, and we could notice that even before the performance because they even changed their social media pfp to Lil Nas X and etc...
Also, this song is by far the worst for me but apart from the "Been that n**** and Thankin' God daddy never wore a condom" (not really suitable for a game that so many kids with 10 years play) it's just a personal preference.

    LIL Nas X ....

Honestly for me the best part about the opening ceremony was the extreme hype when Faker was announced lmao. Stage and effects were perfect but the call was a wasted opportunity, the players got shown too early, the new trophy looks boring in comparison, 2nd song imo was boring and 3rd has a nice hook but is everything but a worlds song. They seemed to have put way too much attention to the collab with lil nas x

Lil Nas x made it so obvious with those hyperactive head movements. Disappointing indeed. I do understand it can be better when there's a lot of dancing and choreography but still man, sucks.
