      /DRIVE Good length of this episode, very enjoyable! Make a show about affordable european cars of 1970´s-2000´s, besides 911s and e30s, that are cool or will appreciate in value. Also maybe discuss 90s rallyhomologated cars, (whats the story on the escort cossie in the back?) , I want my Lancer Evo 3 and ´99 STI Type-R to appreciate ;) I would also like to hear what your "dream tuner cars" would be on a budget. I mean what do you guys think about engined swapped cars and tuner cars in general, is it really a waste of money? Is it better to spend the 30k on a stock BMW M car than an LS swapped miata?

      /DRIVE The longer the better. I really liked this episode. The main comparison between the GT4 and the BMW Z4 was interesting and I wish you guys could show the car or even drive it. Drive both or however many you compare in future shows. Also, I always thought it was missing something and I think I figured it out. You guys always sit on stools but are missing the tall round table and beers. Just sayn'

    just saying "you know" does not help us know. give us some things that make the car what it is and the reasons for your opinions and you might have an interesting show. the long gearing is not fun since you don't have to shift as much. try an S2000, F430 or miata to see why a car like this needs short gearing and a short clutch to really see how to make a manual fun.

      Sunyata you really just said fast lap times don't come from braking...everything you said after just becomes invalid...anyone who knows anything about racing understands that braking is the most fundamental part of being fast. Eg( left foot braking, trail braking, late braking)...the brakes and throttle are what turn the car and the steering wheel becomes the brake..also shifting and gear ratios are incredibly important..shorter gears means more fun on the street and quicker acceleration on smaller tracks...shifting from 2nd to 3rd at 120 mph is not going to be better than shifting into 3rd at 90 mph unless you're making over 900 horsepower...but I agree you can't beat the split second shifts of a pdk or sequential dog box for racing.

    • @MagicAyrtonforever

      Sunyata Learn to drive properly would be my advice to you.

    • @jamaisvu2664
      @jamaisvu2664 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sunyata And how exactly do you improve corner exit speed? I'll take a wild guess and say it comes from braking later and increasing corner entry speed using trail braking and depending on the turn you increase your mid corner speed and then it's getting on throttle at the apex as soon as possible...but realistically every track and every turn is different. Especially once you learn new techniques then your line changes...I prefer fast in/fast out

    • @jamaisvu2664
      @jamaisvu2664 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sunyata I see now you're talking about racing with other cars...so Yea I agree with you then. I prefer time attack. Also when it comes to braking I've been practicing with looking at where I stop braking rather than putting my full focus on where I start(of course that's important)...I've been reading ultimate speed secrets by Ross Bentley and putting new ideas into practice

    My father bought one at a porsche center in Belgium. They told us that there were people asking for the GT4 but they would tell them they didn't have any because the porsche center wouldn't get any real profit out of it. My dad owns multiple bussinesses who also support porsche. Thats why he got his hands on one. Hope this helped you guys out a little. Getting a porsche GT4 at this moment is impossible btw. All sold out. My father is getting he's in february 2016. 2nd handed gt4's will be expensive because they are limited production.

    That 'Polar Moment' you speak of Spinelli is a phenomenon in physics called 'Moment of Inertia'. The larger the radius that the weight is spread across, the greater the moment of inertia (More force required to get it, and keep it moving therefor the skater in your reference spins slower with her arms out, and vice versa) as moment of inertia of an object of constant mass increases as a function of the square of the radius. Therefore, with the more centralized and balanced chassis on the cayman comparative to the 911, allows it to turn in much easier and quicker.

    I have an '06 track gutted and prepped Cayman S. One of the most fun and raw cars I've ever driven. The exhaust note alone and the way it makes you feel is unreal. Definitely rare to see them on the road. Would agree with the 1 in every 2 to 3 months. New Boxster spyder would get my money though!

    Mike as for the substitutes for the Cayman GT4. My suggestion would be presumably you have the money you might consider RUF 3800 S. It has 420 bhp and is ready out of the box. It also has Carrera S power plant. Just a thought.

    Do the next after drive on all the different generations of 911s, what people use those generations for, and what makes them different from the latter generations. This is such a huge topic and trying to find info about this stuff is overwhelming. All the old 911s have a lot in common also.

    Zac and Mike, surprised you didn't have deposits in earlier (before announcement), considering you guys likely have bought a fair number of GT Porsches before. I got my allocation (Sept. build slot) last week, likely helped that I had deposits in about a month prior to announcement. GT3 guys know this. GT3 RS guys really know this. It's been the way it's been with GT Porsches for over a decade. If you want one early (or in this case, at all) you express your interest waaaaay in advance.

    • @mdcohen
      @mdcohen 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Thanks for asking. Too many models to list and you guys often bring up things I wouldn't have thought of. I've loved your shows where it was something like $70k cars you can buy for half or used cars under $25k. You also did a fun one where you could buy a collection for under a $100k. You guys do some awfully interesting used cars for under $10k even. You could do some seasonal shows too. I'm considering getting a cheap AWD for the winter and not driving my 135 in the snow. "AWD cars under $15k" that could be interesting for me.
      I think there's not much good content out there about used cars. Going back and looking at reviews when the cars were new isn't the same. Our perceptions of these cars change once they've been around a few years.
      A restomod show would very cool. Talk about cars you have done restomods to or could do hypothetically. Talk about what year of a certain model you take, what drive train and suspension, brake mods you would do etc.

  • @Mike981S

    Based on Planet-9 and Rennlist and talking to dealers it seems that originally 2500 worldwide were planned. The first US/Canada allocation round was 600 (including the 918 VIP program). A second allocation round is coming soon. Dealers got allocations based on their Cayman sales numbers (besides the 918 allocations that were handled separately). My dealer has over 20 people on the waiting list and got 4 allocations. He expects another 3 to 4, maybe 5 later this year for next year delivery. PCNA is trying to get more to the US either by increasing production or shifting allocations.

    Fellas! Directly from PNA's mouth:
    1. 918 circle people get first dibs (we have a window of time to accept or refuse the car).
    2. Dealership ranking goes second. depending on how many units a dealership sells, etc... they will allocate slots for those dealers.
    3. Within the dealers, they get to chose who gets a car.
    4. They are running production of the car for almost 2 years. No number of units was thrown for that reason.

    Third generation Rx-7 with a very properly done LS swap. Make it drivable on the street with comforts like AC and power steering. Let it be comfortable to drive but with the throttle response and horsepower of a V8. Also make sure to keep its very good 50/50 balance.

    I bought a 08 Cayman with manual because it was all the Porsche I could afford and I didn't want to risk bore scoring with the S model. But I am loving the feel of the car, sure it isn't the fastest and nowhere near the gt4 but for the road it is enough to put a huge smile on my face. Hi, I have a Topic for you: I have a 2005 MB CL55, it is a great car, fast, luxurious, beautiful design and rare. I do not see any reviews or talks about it. I think it will be a collectable one day, what do you guys think? You can buy them fairly cheap and I think they are a steal if you find a clean one...I actually think the older 2003-2006 AMG model looks a lot better than the newer CL class 2007-2013.

  • @robtameo6021
    @robtameo6021 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Okay here's what I would do. I had a 968 for a while and it had that comfort level that those guys were talking about. It had no tech other than ABS. It's like driving a Jeep CJ-7 that's five inches off the ground. It doesn't have that whole "polar moment" thing going for it because it's not mid engine, but it's got that perfect weight distribution and it's completely progressive. You never feel like you're going to get into trouble that you can't get out of. I recently bought a 997S, which I love, but until I get some track/autocross time and I know I'm not going to kill myself, I'm timid with it just like they say. So yeah, I would get a 968, 951, 944S2, or whatever, and pimp the HELL out of it with aftermarket parts until it was a beast.

    Cayman has been my favorite porsche since it launched. Always wanted one. Of course GT4 is top of the heap. It's an odd thing, but since the launch of the C7 corvette, its hard to consider buying a new or even newish Cayman when that money could be spent on the new vette. Used Cayman still a great value proposition in my opinion.

    Are you kidding me? If you do have the money for a GT4 but you can't get one? Porsche Cayman GTS - off course!!! With bit of options, it will end up being almost as expensive and almost as brilliant.
    And you also forget something else: the new Porsche Spyder is coming - and this is basically with a lot bits of the GT4 configurations [engine, not sure about the front axle though] - and you might have still a chance to fetch one!
    To be honest, since I owned a 986 Boxster S I am totally a convertible fan - it is nice to have a rigid chassis [and cleaner interior]- but nothing beats the sun over your head and the air around your neck on a nice day!

      Dmitry Filatov If I would have the money, I would do the Spyder [however with air condition thrown in again - Dubai is far too hot to live without one]. I love even, that it has a manual roof - and it is pretty dynamic on the road - this is for sure!

    Dear MS + Mike & Zac
    Im a regular guy that hits track few times a month.
    Could you guys please discuss which car to buy between
    Cayman GT4 (waiting for it in 2016)
    or
    997 GT3 gen2 (2009)
    They are pretty similar money in nz. Currently driving supercharged e92 m3.
    I'm a dentist by the way haha kinda funny how you guys mentioned it.

      Thanks so much for the reply! I was honestly scared to get a response. I have an 07' CS and was hoping I wouldn't hear it was due to oil starvation of any of the other issues some of the forums have me nervous about. Enjoy the new Porsches in the stable!

    Mike, finish your thoughts. It makes it super hard to follow and disjointed when you go on a tangent without a clear purpose and blueprint for what you want to discuss and portray about the car. It seems you need to have note cards for your thoughts to help bring them to completion

    This is a much better looking car than the 911, Also, Ive heard that if the cayman range was fitted with the same engines as the 911 range, the caymens would be faster because they are a mid engined setup, whereas the 911 is rear engined...

    Topic idea if you have foreign guests. USA car culture compared to 'their' car culture as you kind of did in Dubai (would personally love a UK 'vs' USA as I see our cultures to be totally different ... a 'tuned' cayman is not something I think even exists in the UK, it seems like us 'kids' (Gran Turismo / F&F generation) accept tuning, but anyone older thinks it's for yobs.)
    Great episode as usual. Thanks.

    This might sound ridiculous, but an old Alfa Romeo Giulia from back in the days (70's) with specked up rebuild engine/suspension. GTA or GTAM like..
    Of course you will not track record, but you'll work out your driving skill, push it the limit and get a lot of feel and fun (even at low speeds). Maybe I am drunk...

    Performance wise, the upcoming Ford GT350 will be an alternative to the GT4. The GT350 will probably outperform it on most tracks. If you have to have a Porsche you could get a nice used 911 Turbo for the same price or less.

      ***** lol neither of you know anything about cars. just because a Porsche is insanely expensive doesn't mean it can out perform any car out there. the gt350 is a cheaper alternative and will perform just as well.
