This guy is amazing. So direct, sincere, elegant... he didn't dodge a single question. God... working at Porsche Motorsport with guys like this must be fulfilling your every dream.
After 8 years I have revisited this INSIDE evo video...again. Simply the best 981 GT4 all tell tale video I have ever watched ✨ To make it better only by putting the car up on a ramp (I only know a US channel who did that) and showing us in detail all the mechanical details visible from looking onto the underbody
Fuck yes, we should bring this message to every other sports car producer. Because I want some competition from others when I'm driving my GT4 some day in the future..
I'm not a porsche guy but this car looks stunning, I wish the wheels were central lock like the GT3, but still gorgeous. Thanks Evo to put this out ahead of everybody, great work as always, honestly the best car channel on TH-cam in my opinion.
Best car of 2015, just called it. Porsche, this is the most enthousiast focused car in a lon long time. Tremendous thanks for listening so well to our prayers!
I love the interviews that Jethro does with Andreas they're always so well done. You can really see the passion that they have about the products that they're talking about. Also...OH MY GOD this GT4 is gonna be so golden!
18:33 "I think it's very important to have an atmospherical engine in GT cars because their linearity, the aggressiveness, the sound- that's all something that has become rare these days. We have to produce cars for the heart and stomach as well." Prueninger giving some words of comfort for future Porsche GT cars.
the fact that they predicted 7:40s on the ring and it got 7:42 on it is mind blowing precision.... just goes to show porsche just has the formula for awsomeness...
When they make a PDK only GT3 and Turbo, people complain about a manual gearbox option not being available. Now when Porsche makes a true drivers car (more pure than a 911 in fact) with a manual box only, PDK lovers complain about the lack of a PDK box. Let the few of us who enjoy rowing our boats and having as much control of a car as possible have our cake and eat it too. Thank you Porsche for giving us a proper old school driving experience with a manual box. I really don't want a 911 anymore. I'll take any Cayman any day for a pure driving experience.
***** yes some of the new autos are technical marvels, but in the same way a good electronic keyboard can sound like a real piano its still not the same.
M AR Well the idea of a "sports car" is rather blurred. Although Ferrari's and Lambos are fast cars, they arnt sports cars as they appeal to the rich more than the enthusiasts But when u speak of "sports cars" which refers to those cars that are driven on track or RESEMBLE the track experience, then YES all Sports Cars should have a manual gearbox option... IMO
It's such a pleasure to hear how enthusiastic the man behind the car is about the car. Cars made with passion bleed that passion into you when you drive them.
This is a superb true puristic mid engine sportscar with a lot of GT3 in it. I need a car like this to drive on street at low speeds as well as driving on the track. I think Porsche has hit home run with this.
I love Manuals, I drive one myself. But from every review, every car show, and every owner I've spoken to in real life and on rennlist, they say the PDK in the GT3 is a work of art. It's different from every other PDK out there. Porsche did what they can to mimic a manual, the car doesn't roll without applying gas, you feel the clutch engaging when you give it gas, the shifts are so fast it makes a thump every time. Frankly, with how quickly the revs climb and how responsive the GT3 is, a manual would only make it worse as a whole package. I don't know why people are still mourning over the removal of the Manual.
clockworkwar Another thing I think is funny is that people are saying they've just killed the GT3 with the GT4, blah blah. Funny thing is the allocations for GT3's were gone within months (only around 1500 will come to the U.S. aka they're all sold.) and priority for the GT3RS are set for 918 owners, and the rest will sell within months, maybe weeks. These TH-cam worriers don't understand that Porsche will always win. The GT3's all sold, the RS will all be accounted for before hitting dealers when it get's unveiled, and now they've made the GT4, aka more money in their pockets from people who wants a cheaper track focused car.
Maybe because they're buying a car to enjoy driving it, not to try and set a land speed record for a straight line. Most people aren't being paid to set the fastest lap time possible, they're spending a lot of money to enjoy the skill and have fun driving. In real world driving an automatic is incredibly boring in a sports car, no matter how fast the automatic shifts sequentially. It's fun to actually rev the engine and put the car in the exact gear you want and feel the engine engage instead of handing control over to a computer program that tries to simulate the experience. Putting the car in "D" and having it shift for you or flicking little paddles isn't enjoyable, so what's the point?
maxpowers3732 Believe me I understand, I have a stick. But the PDK in the GT3 have been made to the point where it seems very enjoyable just to hear the thump every time you shift, also in "manual" it doesn't shift for you at redline, doesn't downshift for you when you slow down, it'll only put it into first to prevent stalling. According to Porsche, 85% of owners track their cars on a regular basis. which makes the PDK very fitting.
This guy is awesome, Every interview he does is awesome to watch. I am ready to see the 718 GT4 in 2019, hoping for 9k rev limit and a slightly de-tuned version of the current gt3 engine. It may be a long shot, but I believe in Porsche! And either way I will continue enjoying my 987.1 2.7L Cayman until I can afford the very best of automotive mastery from Stuttgart!
It's official, Porsche just won life. This is probably the best all around car released in... say 20 years? I can't think of anything else i'd rather have at such a competitive price point that delivers the same emotions as a Cayman. Beyond happy they actually made it a proper GT variant.
I love Porsche for doing this. The Cayman's existence is Porsche understanding that the 911's engine placement is a mistake to begin with. But now they are taking baby steps to slowly unleash its potential. Sure, they still won't make it on par with the 911, but that still doesn't mean its not perfect in its own right. Plus, that just means it'll be cheaper anyway. If they keep this up, Porsche will be known not as the company that makes the 911, but the company that just makes great sports cars period.
I have both a 1st gen Cayman and a 991 911 and this is my dream car. The engine from the 911 with the light body of a Cayman. Plus finally a manual transmission! When it's time to sell the Cayman this looks like the car to get
***** maybe you don't know him while you just send him a random text that doesn't even make sense. Tomcat's videos are awesome!!! From BeamNG Drive to The Crew
I'm so excited about this one! This has to be the most exciting car to be released this year. Can't wait to see Jethro and the boys make it go very very sideways.
I wonder what would happen if they just kept the 3.4 liter engine and just tuned it to redline at 9k and do 400 horses to save weight. I do like the increasing in displacement though. Porsche are starting to not be afraid to unleash the cayman like they were in 2006. A massive step in the right direction.
At least 385hp at high altitude and low temp. So that means it's probably closer to 400 hp where I'm at. 400 hp in a feather of a car is pure gold. And its manual too. I love it.
LOL Porsche made the GT4 manual only and the new GT3 PDK only, what the hell were they thinking? Now the purists lost all the excuses to buy the 911, I would definitely buy a GT4 over GT3
I agree with you, don't get me wrong, but are you actually going to buy one? Most people with the money for a GT3 would opt for a PDK car, and the sales reflect that. It's a shame but it's the reality.
HyperLeafBlower How do the sales reflect that? They've sold every GT3 they've made throughout every generation of the car... The old ones with the manual sell for over their original stickers proving the market for more manuals was there...
I'm not saying the market isn't there, but you can't deny that manual lovers are the minority, especially in terms of people that are able to spend that much money on a car like that. The older models sell for more because they're viewed by collectors and those types as a high point in the 911's history because of the Mezger engine, hydraulic steering, and general "purity". Not just the manual. A lot of people unfortunately look at a manual gearbox as outdated or a step backwards, and if they're about to buy something like that they want the "best" possible car they can get so they can brag about the numbers. At the end of the day Porsche needs to make money and they stand to make more money with a PDK car than a manual, even if it's the only option. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have a manual if I could. That's the one thing keeping the 991 GT3 or the forthcoming RS from being my favourite car out right now, (not that I could buy one).
What mr. Preuninger was saying is that the 991 gt3 is against some very big competition, where it has to compete with technical advanced cars (speciale, 650s). So the gt3 needs PDK. It has moved up a price class and speed as well, so this opens up a place for the gt4. They basically can do whatever they want with the car, because it has no competition.
I normally prefer a manual gearbox because that's what I learned on and you feel more involved with the driving experience but the PDK is something else. I actually wish they had the sequential as an option on this car and think I would take it.
Porsche is amazing again this confirms why I love them so much. They stay true to motorsport and know how to truly make a sportscar without it being turbocharged. Theyre conservative as always with their numbers which I love and shows faith in their designs. In a way I see the Cayman as the modern day 356, and that exhaust is absolutely glorious.
Dear god, I am actually drooling over this car... Although I would have loved it even more if it had rear-wheel steer and the GT3 engine - but you cannot get everything.
If you've ever driven a mid engine car vs a rear engine car there is a noticeable difference just from the location of the engine weight. Mid engine cars rotate so nicely compared to Front or rear engine... In a turn a car will rotate around the largest mass so when the weight is behind the rear axle it's more work to get it to change direction.
I think that the most important part that people forget to understand is that a 500 HP cars in the same price range are not as fast as the numbers make them look. The most important element to understand how well a car can accelerate is to look at the curb weight of the car. The power to weight ratio is the most important element to understand how powerful the car really is. A car that weighs 2800 pounds with 385HP will fly away from a 4500 pounds 500HP car. This being a GT car is meant to be nimble fast car not a wanna be 500 HP sports car that has more weight to reach the speed approximately the same time as a 385 HP light car. It's like a marathon runner with more muscle carrying a backpack vs a marathon runner with average muscle without a backpack.
An old clip, but Andreas's reply to Jathro's question at 18:32: "Jethro, don't you worry (what I can tell you) for a longer while..." Was known back then and is known now in 2020, the ICE will not be burried, forgotten or removed ever from the market, it's a very unrealistic thought.
Team rules apply to similar cars, not drastically different ones. Cayman is still being held back! The 911 is finally being transitioned into the GT car it has wanted to be for the last couple of decades. I'm finally happy.
Porsche Curves and it's N/A...what more do these people want lol the Regular 1st gen Cayman isnt powerful At All but is Super fun to drive. This thing will be INSANE. #ManualTransFTW
Best car of 2015 according to almost all world's car media sources. True masterpiece. This is my perfect sports car. It would be so interesting to feel the difference with my Cayman S.
Jethro was little boy talking to God, almost apologetic for asking any potentially difficult questions. But don't get me wrong I appreciate that he's got the upmost respect for Andreas.
Wow. Just wow. I think Porsche needs to concede that the 911 has had it's time as the flagship car, but now it's time for the Cayman GT4 to be the flagship. I think if Dr. Porsche himself were alive, he would agree and wish he had the opportunity to build a mid-engine car.I don't think I'm alone in believing a Cayman GT4 would be substantially quicker around the Nurburgring than a 911 GT3, and I think that says it all.So, the 918 is Porsche's mega flagship car, and the Cayman GT4 is the more down to Earth flagship car. Imagine a turbo version?!Great video. Great car.
I always wondered why they didn't use the 991.1 X51 Powerkit intake on this 3.8 engine from Porsche. It seems like the biggest gripe when comparing this to the 9A2 4.0 is the upper rpm breathing. Surely that would have helped but maybe it was just too costly to use at the time.
I have my tuned Z3 Coupe, I've had it for 7 years and M cars before that but I never feel the need of having another car besides it for non snowy conditions. Until now. This and Clownshoe, what a garage would it be, I would never had a bad day!
Waau absolutely love the Caymen. Im curious. I'm used to my wonderful boxster but at 1.86m tall I must represent the absolute limit in this car. This is where the 911 must benefit with more legroom for taller drivers.? Am I right
I, like Jethro, wonder about the gearing of this car. The Cayman GTS had only one downside, that the gearing was too tall. (evo says it does 110+ mph in 2nd!) This meant that to experience the engine in it's full glory, you had to go to a track, making it a not perfect road car. And apparently the gearchange is magnificently sweet, so to have such long gears really took out the joy of that part of the car. I'm still concerned that the ratios in this GT4 will be too tall, making the performance mostly inaccessible when a good road is clear and dry in front of you.
Cayman turns in sharper and quicker than a 911. I bet the gt4 drives a dream. I love my 996 turbo, but you need to be ready to use it correctly, like a gold-weighted scalpel. Gt4 could be toss able even at lower speeds. The turbo needs 3 figure speeds to really understand and feel the dynamics.
I drove my boxster gts around the track 10 times and then borrowed this from a friend at the track. It was more stiff, better dampening , just awesome but prefer my GTS for daily driving. kind of like a 911 is a good daily driver but really meant for the track to realize its true potential...
AWESOME!!! Manual only, what a great move Porsche! It´s been a while since I really wanted a new car, but I want this one badly! Every detail about it just screams YES! I hope Porsche will sell many many of them. Thanks Porsche.
This guy is amazing. So direct, sincere, elegant... he didn't dodge a single question. God... working at Porsche Motorsport with guys like this must be fulfilling your every dream.
Mr. Andreas Prueninger is so passionate about Porsche and cars that he has got me hypnotised.
I enjoy every interview that Andrea does. He seems so different from the normal corporate representative while maintaining the diplomatic polish.
Andreas (stupid auto correct )
Michael Lewis andreas is probably the german andrea.. :)

GT3 is lost to the mindless spec war... this is a true driver's car
Fuck yes, we should bring this message to every other sports car producer. Because I want some competition from others when I'm driving my GT4 some day in the future..
Jason 9000 RPM in the RS version of this maybe =)
*****
Putting that altogether would not be much cheaper than this. The engine + trans + DME in the 991 GT3 is probably worth $50K *used*
And you know this because you have or driven a GT3?
dont even need to compare it to US horses since most of the people there cant even drive a manual trans.
I personally like the look of the cayman way more than the 911 so this car is honestly amazing to me
I'm not a porsche guy but this car looks stunning, I wish the wheels were central lock like the GT3, but still gorgeous.
Thanks Evo to put this out ahead of everybody, great work as always, honestly the best car channel on TH-cam in my opinion.
Absolutely love the new Cayman GT4 to pieces. I could listen to Andreas talk about this car all day.
It´s always a joy to listen to Andreas Preuninger. So nice when people really know their stuff.
Thank you for the manual. Literally everything I could want in a Porsche.
Best car of 2015, just called it. Porsche, this is the most enthousiast focused car in a lon long time. Tremendous thanks for listening so well to our prayers!
Not that the entire video wasn't very interesting, but you MUST watch until the end. The last 10 seconds tell you how great this car should be.
I know!!!!!!!
I just fell back in love with Porsche.
As years passing by, I am becoming in love with Porsche more and more!
I love the interviews that Jethro does with Andreas they're always so well done. You can really see the passion that they have about the products that they're talking about. Also...OH MY GOD this GT4 is gonna be so golden!

As a car guy, I just enjoy listening to this guy talk. He doesn't just understand us, he is us. Thank god these guys still exist in car manufacturers.
Great interview, I love how passionate Andreas is about this car. You can really tell that Porsche has spent a lot of time pouring over the details.
I want one of these more than my next breath ! that engine noise and a proper 6 speed MANual hell yesss
the fact that they predicted 7:40s on the ring and it got 7:42 on it is mind blowing precision.... just goes to show porsche just has the formula for awsomeness...
That sound at the end…my god it's lovely...
It's drop-dead gorgeous from every angle, and that is a trait that I feel only a handful of cars can lay claim to...
Absolutely love this car. The GT man they had come on was great too, exactly the type of guy I'd expect to meet working on GT porsches
Really happy to see Porsche do this. Definitely a top contender for driver's car competitions.

Hell yeah! manual gearbox ONLY!!
A manual option should be at least available with EVERY sports car in the world.
Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world.
***** yes some of the new autos are technical marvels, but in the same way a good electronic keyboard can sound like a real piano its still not the same.
It wouldn't make sense for a manual P1 or LaFerrari. Wouldn't it?

It is about a freedom of choice, this kind of car is perfect for a manual. The GT3 kind of needed to join the PDK bandwagon.
I agree, manual is perfect for the cayman GT4, it's light, nimble, simplistic, and not too much power making for a pure driving experience.
clockworkwar Another thing I think is funny is that people are saying they've just killed the GT3 with the GT4, blah blah. An old clip, but Andreas's reply to Jathro's question at 18:32:
"Jethro, don't you worry (what I can tell you) for a longer while..."
Was known back then and is known now in 2020, the ICE will not be burried, forgotten or removed ever from the market, it's a very unrealistic thought.
Team rules apply to similar cars, not drastically different ones. Cayman is still being held back! The 911 is finally being transitioned into the GT car it has wanted to be for the last couple of decades. I'm finally happy.
Nice. A lot of improvements that people have been wanting.
You could almost say its Porsche's "throw back car"
Also, Andreas is the man.
GT3's baby brother and thank got its a 6 speed manual!
Is it me or was Andrea hinting that the GT3RS will be Manual or Manual Only? I hope so!
I want it so badly. I love the gt3 but a manual and the styling too! Well done porsche, well done
Any news if there'll be a GT4 RS in the near future?
For Sale: track prepped 2007 Cayman S, must be gone by....what was that date again Andreas?
Now that new Cayman GT4 is a proper driver's car. I love it !!
Everything I needed to know about this car started at 19:58 when they said Manual Gearbox, and at 20:07... holy hell that sounds good.
I didn't quite understand him. At 4:40, did he say they only gave it a manual as to not outperform the PDK GT3? Because that's what I heard
385hp wtf is this bullshit, they are still holding back on the cayman don't let them fool you.!!!!
Its really a shame
It doesn't need loads of power, it's light as it is anyway.
It's German. It has 400hp at least.
Porsche Curves and it's N/A...what more do these people want lol the Regular 1st gen Cayman isnt powerful At All but is Super fun to drive. This thing will be INSANE. #ManualTransFTW
It's also less than half the price, you cannot get everything...
I want Andreas jacket, its awesome!
Best car of 2015 according to almost all world's car media sources. True masterpiece. This is my perfect sports car. It would be so interesting to feel the difference with my Cayman S.
This car gonna fly off the shelf (if they ever make it up).
That was brilliant, and with a brillant man, Andreas! Thanks
I have my tuned Z3 Coupe, I've had it for 7 years and M cars before that but I never feel the need of having another car besides it for non snowy conditions. Until now. This and Clownshoe, what a garage would it be, I would never had a bad day!
I actually love this car, if I had the finances I'd buy one as soon as I could!
Awesome car ! I want this as my wedding car !
Cayman turns in sharper and quicker than a 911. I bet the gt4 drives a dream. I love my 996 turbo, but you need to be ready to use it correctly, like a gold-weighted scalpel. Gt4 could be toss able even at lower speeds. The turbo needs 3 figure speeds to really understand and feel the dynamics.
dang, evo with 2 big exclusives in a day!
This is the new old NSX!!
How to put a smile on a motorhead's face?
Step 1: 20:06
Step 2: There's no Step 2!
What a machine!
Thats the real Porsche philosphy!
Mr.Preniunger, is this the same Crappy lsd used on the 997 GT3's that quits working on after 3 trackdays?
I think they have to re-do the spoiler, it looks like some sort of aftermarket spoiler just put on. Make the spoiler more "integrated" to the car.
Hey Evo when are you doing you track/road test of the GT4? Soon I hope......
I drove my boxster gts around the track 10 times and then borrowed this from a friend at the track. It was more stiff, better dampening , just awesome but prefer my GTS for daily driving. kind of like a 911 is a good daily driver but really meant for the track to realize its true potential...
Fantastic Interview!
I like the GT4 over the GT3
Thank you :-)
AWESOME!!! Manual only, what a great move Porsche! It´s been a while since I really wanted a new car, but I want this one badly! Every detail about it just screams YES! I hope Porsche will sell many many of them. Thanks Porsche.
Idk why but this is my favorite Porsche ever released. Carrera GT, 918, 959 idk I'd take this over all of them.
Can’t wait for this to be released
