My father died in 2017. It wasn't SARS, but MERS -anyway, another son of a bitch coronavirus-. We did not get along very well and in recent years we spoke very little. He died without that last conversation in which, perhaps, I could have told him how much I loved him. One of his favorite songs, the same one that I listened over and over on the day of his death, was Popa's cover of Hallelujah. My father thought they were both great. Finally, we agreed on something. I miss you, dad. Thanks, Popa.
I know it's an older post, but I'm sorry for the pain such dynamics bring. Been there with numerous people. Always leaves a one-sided conversation with the sky and clouds. And a certain unknown or emptiness that can't be truly resolved other than lessening the regrets through time. Peace.
Been watching him live for 25 yr. here in nyc area . in Europe he is very popular. A true national treasure. If you get a chance see him live. This guy is the real deal. Too bad blues is a tough way to make a living here in america . Not fair at all. High powered fast and accurate. A guitar slinging danger man of the highest order.
Popa Chubby is the only person I've ever seen cover this song who turns it into a celebration rather than a dirge. His guitar playing gives it wings and makes it soar.
The word Haluliluya is never a durge by default The chubmiester screams live. For those who have never seen him live perhaps you should We were at a club in Detroit at a table at his feet. YIKES chubby had the Gueness in our pints churning. If you go buckle up but go
You're right, he does let it loose live. I saw him in a club/Mexican restaurant in Portland, Maine back in 1997 or 98. I've been a fan ever since. I definitely know what you mean.
Vous avez exactement traduit ce que je ressentais. C'est la première fois que cette chanson , magnifique, me fait vibrer. Il donne un sens tellement positif aux paroles alors que d'habitude, les interprétations sont extrêmement sombres.
my son sang this at my mother's funeral. he choked abit ..yeh he did...and gracefully carried on ....this guy my boy is gonna like yeh. great teacher. brilliant.
I was born in '61, steeped and simmered in Chicagoland Gospel/Blues. Popa Chubby plays all of the right notes, none of the extraneous ones. Play on Big Brother, play on.
Poppa knows what this song means. He pulls everything out and relates to it emphatically. It seemed to be exhausting for him emotionally. He was all in. Best cover EVER , IN THE WHOLE. WIDE WORLD ! ! ! !
MANIKO5: I just saw him in Richmond, VA in mid April at The Capitol Ale House (small venue). He is the finest guitarist or performing artist I've ever seen live and I've been to well over 250 concerts since my first one in 1974 which was Edgar Winter and The James Gang. Go see Popa if you get the chance. He's outstanding!!
I was lucky enough too see him in a small venue while on vacation in Hawaii. I'd never heard of him before that night, but I've been a b enormous fan since. He definitely needs to come to the west coast, and make an additional stop in San Diego.
Met Popa 2 days ago after a show, great guy! I also don't know why he isn't much more well known and this version is my favorite rendition! Rock on Popa!!!
Classique repris par de nombreux chanteurs et souvent massacrés .Mais quel reprise magnifique de Popa pour moi qui l’ai vu en live c’était très émouvant .Bravo
I'm totally fan of this song, all the versions are great but his version is more than good and his solo on a Fender Stratocaster (I'm in love with this guitar) is just awesome, he give a new sensibility to this fabulous song. Thanks for sharing. Hughs from Belgium :-)
Chubby has a lot to say that gloriously strong Word to.Be well music man keep praying and we will see you again my friend Haluliluya... "Don't forget to tip the waitress saints."brothermike out hold the door😇
Finally Somebody comes along and puts the finishing touches on the on that song !! And if that don't make you Holler Hallelujah !!!! You don't know a dam thing about MUSIC !!
This is the truest and most Devine interpretation of this beautiful song. Even Leonard Cohen would say " Poppa , Thanks for getting it right ". There is no cover of this song in the world that even comes close to this. Others try, but fall very short of the mark. Thank you Poppa for dealing it out real ! That is what this song was written about. Not God or praise there in. I guess you get it or you don't.
@@lewjersey2573 I'm not a beleiver and have never been. I liked the music and his performance. Otherwise, I don't pay a shit for Jesus, Mohammad and Moses.
This version is in my top three, right beside Jeff Buckley and Pentatonix. All sound different which goes to show just how finely crafted this song is. Thanks for posting this video, love Poppa Chubby's sound and tone.
Basin I was infected at once of the version he played. There's a lot of gooey covers of that beautiful song. This one made shivers on my spine. I liked also his own words he added to Leonard's. God bless You, my friend.
C'EST DEJA UN CHEF D'EUVRE ....MAIS INTERPRETE PAR LUI C' EST MAGNITIQUE ET MAGNIFIQUE
