Morning Jim, ok it’s high winds and freezing nights here we even had snow last night but the torrential downpour melted it. So I am waiting a few weeks to so much except I’m doing tomatoes 🍅 in the house. I heard cape gooseberries self seed well so 👍👍 hopefully you’ll get good crops. Have a fantastic week and happy sowing, Ali ❄️🥶🇨🇦
Funnily enough Ali we went from exceptionally mild in February to now freezing cold 🥶 always the case in the UK, cold in spring. I'm looking forward to seeing how the cape gooseberry do, they're all germinating just fine now 😄 have a great weekend Ali what ever you're up to 🧑🌾
You are explaining sowing very well. I have just ordered my grow lights for my tomatoes and cucumbers. I have a propogator for the chillies and aubregines. I sowed my parsnips straight in the ground but will wait patiently thanks to your info on long germination. Thank you I have subscribed and wll keep watching.
Glad you found my video useful! I'm going to start off my parsnip seeds very soon! Happy growing and keep us updated on those cucumbers peppers tomatoes and aubergines!
I did cape gooseberry last yr, nothing on the outdoor plants, the GH plants went mad hitting the roof, they took an age to germinate in the GH I'd almomst given up but then they came up same time as the french beans, they can't take even a mild frost, I wasn't going to bother with them this yr as they took over the GH but they've sprouted from last yrs root so I've been trying to keep one protected from frost
Are they perennial? I never realised they can sprout from last years root! Did you get a good crop from the GH grown plants with them being so big? I know physalis is expensive to buy!
@@downtoearthwithjimthey're perennial in the tropics, classed as annual here in the UK, I had 2 regrow from the root from 4 plants in the GH, one of those got hit by the last hard frost, other is still growing, I tried fleece over them but it still got one, think it was -8C, I wouldn't say they were huge croppers the fruit come at the interneode but the internodes were like 1 ft apart, lots of stems/side shoots each needed string support, I had like 5 stings on each plant, there mite be a way to train/prune for higher yeild but I've not researched it yet, last yr wasn't the best for summer sun going off the tomatoes so mite crop better in a good summer.
Have you heard of ground cherry tomatoes. I heard they are good as well. They come in different flavors I have the pineapple flavor. They haven't come up yet but I'll wait to see how they taste when they do.
Aren't they the same as physalis? I'm trying to grow them for the first time this year. I love them! My seedlings are already up under the grow lights now. I didn't know they came in different flavours though!

Have you tried super sweet 100? If so what do you think of those?
I haven't! I've tried Sweet Apertiff if that is similar? They're a nice one! I'll have to give it a go!
Where in the UK are you Jim?
Lancashire, North West England. Zone 8b
@@downtoearthwithjim I knew it was Lancashire. I'm from Blackpool and could hear your accent. I hear spinach grows well in the North.
@@MelodyBee-yl7we ah not far from me! I was born in Blackpool, lived in the Preston area for the last 10 years though
