Tonight we continue the 4l80e swap in the gmc sierra. In the last video we had a few issues with the swap. One is a leak at the tailshaft of the 4l80e. The other was a leak in the wiring harness area of the 4l80e. In this video we address those two leaks and repin the 4l80e connector for a segment swap. I didn't like the other method and wanted to try the segment swap option. After getting it all together we try to drive again and wouldn't you know its broken. At this point I am pretty sure the transmission is bad and is going to have to come out for a refresh. Hit the Comments and let me know what you think.......

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but this is one of the reasons why I love your channel!!!!! Real world situations and so much helpful content. Keep up the great work!!!!
Thank you. Hope to help others and maybe they will leave their projects stock.
@@TWAMotorsports well where’s the fun in that?? 🤣🤣
Lol. I know
Playing catch up (again) from the last couple months…. Looking forward to the content. How you don’t pull your hair out sometimes amazes me Brotha. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!!!
It's tough sometimes. Lol
Good Monday evening Travis. I'm just getting home from work and getting settled in and having dinner with my wife.. and of course going to put your video up on my 85" flat screen tv with surround sound..
Nice. Have a great night.
Travis, another great informative video 🔥
Thank you. How to make a truck not run. Lol
Travis I’ve watched your videos for years, and I still have no idea what you do for a living and how you learned to do all of this work on multiple types of vehicles doing any and all tasks? Can you explain a little how this all started. Pretty amazing in my opinion. 👍🏼. Looking forward to more T/A videos.
Thank you. I worked for Verizon up until a year ago and decided I need a job that didn't take up my nights and weekends. I now sell commercial insurance. As for the cars I had a few teachers along the way but ultimately just learned as I go. Read a lot and watch others and tweak the process as I go
It's all part of the game man, I'm sure you'll get that trans rebuilt and running good soon.
Thank you. I hope so
Glad to see you bro sorry haven't seen you in a long time dude, happy to see ya bro
I haven't seen any post in a while. Glad you are here
been watching your channel for a while... keep up the content...!
Thank you for the support
Hey Travis !! Transmission issues aside, the truck looks great !! I know the frustration... sometimes just stepping back and taking that deep breath helps !! (Or maybe not !! 😂)
Thank you. Yeah that is exactly what I am doing.
That's well said, that's literally me. Sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't HAHAHA
My truck is having the same exact issues right now and I also got a 4l80 swap on my cammed 5.3!
My transmission was bad
Great video best of luck with that trans but truck looks great
Thank you. It will go eventually
Hey Travis, nothing more frustrating than doing a job multiple times. I know from experience lol. Thats why i quit working on friends cars. They kept biting me in the ass. At least when its your own vehicle you can walk away from it for a while and think and regroup with a clearer head or a different idea about problem. Anyway hang in there. That scrape getting out of the garage might be a good sign that you have it abit to low js lol.
I agree with that. I did just that. Walked away for a while and do something different. It will eventually get done
Hey man I'm gonna subscribe and try doing this I've been doing research and so what I gathered is, a new flexplate or a spacer, and a modified crossmember and relocating 2 wires from the factory wiring.
Thank you for subscribing
Men it'll be ok I have ran into those problems before to and its not fun. But you got it Men 👍 👌
Yeah I just need to step away a minute. Thank you
I'm fighting trans trouble also. R&R trans 3 times gets old! Feel your pain.
Yeah. I need to walk away from it for a while
Love the Chanel did you ever install the power windows on this truck
Thank you. No I haven't
Good video. I’m about to start the 80 swap in my 05. What’s the most cost effective way to get hp tuners? Thanks
Buy from any vender honestly
i was doing a half-a... job and it went as expected. but hey it should last for a little while once im done.
Good luck
Seems like that Trans needs some love. Loss of 3rd and 4th clutch packs. Check pressures and solenoids. Sorry man but you'll get it tightened up. Thanks for the content.
Thank you. Hopefully I can get it out soon
@@TWAMotorsports really clean truck though btw.
Thank you
Almost same situation, just came across your page. Doing a complete swap and upgrade to 4l80 and won’t shift out of first. Did the rewire and harness adapter route - computer flashed/tuned and RE pinned the cpu and no luck. Any recommendations? Sure I did something wrong
Could be the transmission. That is what mine ended up being. Generally if wiring is wrong it will stay in 2nd gear.
Travis, I am thinking of starting to acquire all the goodies to do this swap to my truck. What do you estimate the total cost to be before rebuilding a used trans, including coolers , brackets etc ?
A couple thousand
When you get frustrated it’s best to step away! I have confidence that you will get it fixed!
I agree and have done that for a while.
Travis whats the number part that you have on the raceramps? I have the same Bendpack HD9 and my truck is 3” from the floor
I think they are linked in video description. Actually made for trailer use.
@@TWAMotorsports can you link me the video?
Just curious why you switched from the pcm of nc harness to the segment swap?
Perception of problem
Don't worry about fixing that truck you will fix it with time and it will come out right I also if you know how to fix this please let me know my truck is a 2002 Chevy like yours and it doesn't show the mileage is there a simple way to fix that whenever you get time let me know
Its a broken solder in panel. Several videos out to show how to fix.
Travis do you know any other good cross members?
One I listed in description
Whenever you installed your converter did you check to see if the oring on the input shaft was on or in good condition? If it was ripped or old and flat it will cause lockup issues
I did and it was.
Off the wall question for you man. I'm from Ontario, 🇨🇦 and I was wondering if its feasible to purchase a rust free southern states truck and ship it here??
Im sure it is
I know money can get you almost anywhere but, realistically
@@randyjones1618 I'm not sure what shipping cost are
Thank you for replying to me brother. I appreciate it and love your channel. Keep up the great content. I sure loved that red stepside. Any other NBS stepsides in the cards??
@@randyjones1618 thank you. As of now no. I have other stuff I want to do to what I have honestly
Good 🙏 job on the same boat ⛵
If I remember correctly a 4l60/ 80e will default to 2nd gear and reverse with no electronics hooked up. So no reverse tells me it's not a computer issue.
Yeah you are correct. Its a limp mode generally
36:30 I was wondering why we didn't ever get to see the pan.
It was junk
Take the truck and transmission to Precision Transmission in TX! Richard is a transmission Guru... He also has a YT channel!
I have a guy that is going to pull the transmission apart after I remove
Is the 4L80E transmission a 4 speed transmission
It is
The lockup doesn't matter, the converter should not be slipping that much. I do not command lockup in my turbo car with a 4l80 until 4th gear, and it drives perfectly fine. Very curious to see what you figure out, maybe a bad trans pump or something!
I think you are right. Its internal
I just finished my 4l80 swap and it’s throwing a code for TCC solenoid stuck on and it feels like the torque converter is staying locked in all gears and it’s real sluggish and every time I decelerate a truck almost wants to die it’s like the torque converter is dragging it all the way down to 200 RPMs when I come to a stop
I am also using the wire harness but I decided to just pin the right way But it’s still doing the same thing transmission is completely rebuilt if there’s any tips or advice you can give me that would be great
May have to pull that solenoid and check it or replace. Rebuild guys generally don't replace that
@@TWAMotorsports ok thanks for replying I’m going to replace that and the harness as well
So did the transmission lock up gear ⚙️ ? Cause I've wasted 2k already same problem high Rpm when I go 45 and it feels like it shutters
If it were me, I would install the 4l80 for the trans am in the truck instead. Then, send the other off to get rebuilt. Then you will have a drivable truck in days instead of over a month. Good luck man.
Probably should but don't need the truck to run in a specific time frame. Winter is here.
@@TWAMotorsports I guess I'm just built differently lol. I hate to work on something and not get good results in a timely matter.
I agree. I trimmed the ears off the other to fit the fbody is another reason
Are you crazy it will burn 3rd & 4tg Gear I did that I rebuild the transmission Google what a 6.0 has 6.0 come with a 4l80e only pa
Yo how do you get your slip fit exhaust to not leak? Any tricks??
Lol. Weld it. Otherwise it leaks
@@TWAMotorsports Yeah I may do just that but I don’t want to.
I understand that. Vbands are the best way.
@@RedXray So do you put RTV on the outside of the pipe before you slip them in?
Great info. Thank you
Did u have heating issues on 4L80? Does it run hotter then the 4L60?
Not with this cooler
I did a 4L80e swap on my 08 Silverado. With 2500 stall converter. Gets pretty hot climbing step highways. I was just wondering if that's normal. I did order a tru-cool 4k to replace the stock 4l60e cooler.
Definitely need a auxiliary cooler with a stall converter
Hey Travis I just did my Tahoe with a 4l80e from the 4l60 and from what am looking at it seems you have the same issue that I had w mine, the programming did not work.. if she’s starting from 2nd n not 1st it’s you programming. I had to get mine done by a tuner because there was something about the files on HP not done correctly. I was only having 2nd and 3rd NO 1st nor 4th nor OD. The one issue I have now is my reverse. The pin is not long enough so I ordered the adapter for the reverse servo to fix the issue, but that’s a different problem hope your 4l80e doesn’t come with that issue later down the line. Hope that my experience can help you out. Let me know if you have any questions glad to help.
Its definitely not the tune. Its a hard part in the transmission. My tuner is solid. Done my last 4l80e tune also. I need to remove and get it figured out
@@TWAMotorsports the beautiful things about GM trans is that they are easy to rebuild and not to expensive if you do it your self. I am so excited of how mine turned out except for the reverse which I for got to measure, but with the shift kit, 2500 stall, full rebuild of the trans and 4-10 high positive diff l, I tell you what she moves now.. can’t wait to put a fresh 6.0 on it with a mild cam.
That's true
Sounds like your tuner.
Its definitely not that.
What year is that GMC?
2002
Did u use the same drive shaf
No I had one made
Around how much it cost to get one
300ish
@@TWAMotorsports ok 👌 I just got a 2500 suburban and took the 6.0 4l80 out going put it in my short bed 2001 single cab
Nice
Check fluid while running... hot...
I did in rhe later video
Man you'll be able to remove and install a transmission blindfolded. Hope you gave it a good talking to🤬, I know i would have!!!! ✌
I for sure did off camera. Lol
Hey buddy you want me to take another 4l60 off your hands 😂
Lol. Only bad ones here.
Dang I was hoping the one you pulled from the single cab was good
If it were I would have left it alone for a while. Lol
Your an example of people who just try wayyyyyyyy too hard my friend, and then fail most of the time……..
Must be doing it wrong then
You good man no quitters. You got this
No quitting. Just need a break
Do it right the first time lmao
Like?
Sucks brotha! You'll get it straight
It does suck. Eventually when I quit being mad at it
@@TWAMotorsports We've all been there
Yeah I agree. Kills my motivation
Not all 4L80s are the same, some are front cooled, some are rear cooled, 4x2,4x4. Study Precision Transmission videos. Best to get 1 from the same Gen of vehicle GMT800-GMT800, etc
Correct. Several differences over the years.
I’m sure you will get it figured out, if it was easy there would be no TH-cam 🤷🏻♂️
Thank you. That's for sure
What’s nuts is how weak dewalt is 😂
Newer one is good
You talk about not having enough fluid. You're supposed to check the fluid at operating temp with the engine running in neutral, never saw you do that in the video... You probably didn't have enough fluid that's why it was slipping
It had enough fluid. Was slipping because the transmission was junk
I got a P0706 history I understand but it still won't lock up
Manual swap ?
No sir
@@TWAMotorsports take the engine and trans from the white trans am and put that into the truck
Lol.
