    Since it has been a while how has the converter been holding up? I am building a 6.0 for my 99 silverado 1500 and looking at converters for a possible turbo in the future!

    • @LawrenceTolman
      @LawrenceTolman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      so far, the GM88H converter has done nicely, especially considering the truck now has a turbocharged big block attached to it.

    This series of videos has helped me greatly with my build a 99 gmc short bed step side I bought used in 2000 and still have the truck came with 5.3 4l60e and 3.73 gears with towing package. I am going to add ring gap a sloppy stage 2 cam springs and a turbo enter cooler combo plus the 4l80e of course. There is a lot of great information in your video !! Thank you very much

    the 4l80e is a turbo 400 with overdrive added. it is a great transmission

    Coming together nicely. I went with the 80e on my build as a sort of build it and forget it type deal. It's great around town and on the highway, as well as the occasional tire durability test. 😀

  • @kevinwest3689
    @kevinwest3689 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm pretty sure they do make a spacer that goes on the snout of the torque converter, so you don't have to change your flywheel or those bolts, like $30 bucks if I'm not mistaken.

    • @LawrenceTolman
      @LawrenceTolman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yes, I believe you can use the 4l60 style dished flexplate with a pilot spacer on the back side, or a flat 4l80 style flexplate with the 0.400" spacer in front of it.

    was going to use the speartech conversion harness. also one last question. I'm going to yank my parts from the junkyard, transmission, flex plate and use stock torque converter. does the 4l60e output driveshaft work with the 4l80e? i know the driveshaft needs to be shortened but just wanted to know if i need to grab the driveshaft from the junkyard also. this is going into my 2000 chevy suburban 2wd that i use to town stuff sometimes and daily driver. My friend has hptuners. also if i grab the crossmember off the junkyard 4l80e would that work with my suburban. i can weld and modify the way you did. but if there's an easy cheap bolt in solution i can do that as well. i haven't looked at the difference between the two yet and will be headed to junkyard later to compare...

    • @LawrenceTolman
      @LawrenceTolman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      no, I don't think so. Mainly because on the 4L80 truck the crossmember will still be straight across, but the brackets that are welded on the frame are in a different position along the chassis.
