Bull shit, So all other bands were tolr what to do & were suggested stuff except for Metallica? they were advised to change their Sound & Look in 1994 / 96 & they took that advice & just fit in with all The Alterative bands. they changed their sound, logo & their look, How & Why do people / fans deny that?
I'm not really sure what this is supposed to mean...should he use the most expensive microphone just because of the cost? Usually you pick a mic based on its tonal qualities or polar pattern for the situation. I wouldn't take this as a signal of his virtue, just that it was a good choice for his voice and his show.
Do you you believe he uses a Neumann because he's budget savvy, or maybe Neumann want them to be seen being used by Howard. In the 21st century, product placement is everywhere.
As a lifetime metalhead, I can attest that metal fans are both the best and the worst. I have been guilty of this. Thank-you Metallica for doing what you guys have wanted, always.
Metallica brought something new into metal music at that time with Fade to Black. You can metal with acoustic guitar in your song and that the song doesnt have to be trashy from a start to an end. FtB is a great reliever in the middle of the album.
Metallica is a great Rock and Roll band. End of story. They can play anything. Seem like good guys. They write, record and play great. What the fuck else do people want from these guys.
I totally agree with you, it's one of the best albums they've made. However (not that I disagree with you), if you listen to other thrash Metal bands in the early (that were nowhere as famous as Metallica of course, and just about nobody has heard of them anymore), you would see why those metal freaks back then think Fade to Black was a sell-out. Bands ike Exciter... You probably wouldn't know who they were and neither did I until watching a TH-cam clip recently about Thrash.
I can't recall how old I was, but my brother bought me "Master of Puppets" tape as a birthday present, and that got me exposed to Metallica and blew my socks off. So I had to get more, naturally, and I remember buying "Ride the Lightning" and when "Fade to Black" came on, just chills everywhere. I didn't know you could make such orchestra-like riffs with a guitar and harmonize it so well. So many riffs on "Fade to Black". Gorgeous song from beginning to end, and when you get to the end, you just hit rewind before it got to the B Side because you want to hear it again and again.
Fade to Black? A sellout? Geez. It's so beautiful I use it as my alarm tone. No wonder I never wake up on time. I attended their concert a night before my birthday in 2019 at London and was gutted they didn't play one of my favorite songs. All the way from Mumbai, India!
I can't stand people who think they're like the Sellout Police or something. Fade to Black is an incredible song! Thank god they "sold out" and made it.
Lemmy of Motorhead told the story of how when Motorhead were starting out in the mid 70s and playing gigs a fan came up to him after they got their first record deal and said they'd sold out. So a band can be accused of selling out the very moment they get a record released.
@@j.j.4150 I used to say the same, and I gotta tell you: as I get older I've been appreciating their music a whole lot more and have even come around to liking their 90's output much more, and I used to hate it.
ANYONE WHO THREW THE SELLOUT LABEL ARE NOT FANS OF THE BAND BUT ONLY FANS OF AN ALBUM OR A SPECIFIC SOUND. TRUE FANS OF THE BAND WILL BE TRUE FANS OF MUSIC BECAUSE WHATEVER ALBUM THEY MAKE WILL HAVE SOMETHING THAT SPEAKS TO YOU. THEY DIDN'T GO OUT ON PURPOSE TO TRY MAKE EVERY ALBUM SOUND LIKE THE WAY COMMERCIAL BANDS AND FANS WANT THINGS TO SOUND - THEY FOLLOWED AND MADE ALBUMS TO THE WAY THEY FELT AT THE TIMES - EVERY SINGLE METALLICA ALBUM HAS SONGS ON IT THAT ARE AWESOME AND SPEAK SOMETHING TO EVERY PERSON DIFFERENTLY...
Total BS. Were Slayer branded “sell outs” when they released South Of Heaven in ‘88 and Tom was actually singing on most of the songs instead of shouting? I don’t think so. No matter which direction Metallica go with their music, it’ll always be iconic. Like Jason said in an interview when he heard the band sold out, he’s like “yeah we sold out, we sold out stadiums and arenas with each tour every single night”
Fade to Black gave me and my high school guitar class something to play as Metallica fans on our crappy acoustics that we had to replace the strings ourselves on.
They didn't change their sound at the behest of management/label/etc. They've evolved their sound and played what they wanted to play. That's the point.
they did release a very commercially driven album in 1991, which was a huge change of pace for them. so I do not agree with Howard's comments to kick this clip off.
As Jason always said, 'we did sell out......sell out every seat in the house'.
*insert gigachad*
....every time we play. Anywhere we play."
That's a Gene Simmons saying...
But even Jason was super critical and unhappy with the music/image during the Load years.
Selling out venues and selling out as a band are two different things. And Metallica did both of those.
Love how James and Kirk both simultaneously can't resist playing the FTB riff at the 3 min. mark.
and lars just sitting there munching on his sandwich lol
Exactly what i was thinking!
I mean when James comes in on that riff after the intro solo
Fade to Black is still my all-time favorite song of any band
same here favorite song of all time
Same to me.
Same Here, best song ever
100%
Same here best solo ever
one of the best metal songs released period. fucking beauty
Fade to black is one of the best metal songs ever!
A song that has brought me to tears. TWICE!!
"It´s all relative to where your world is, and how small your world is" - James Hetfield
Such a polite way to say "close narrow minded people"
Metallica always did what felt right for them at the time. You gotta respect that.
They've always done what they wanted and they get so much shit for it
Bull shit, So all other bands were tolr what to do & were suggested stuff except for Metallica?

@@MetalHeart8787 Actually, the look and sound change was largely driven by Kirk and Lars, not outside voices. They wanted to experiment. Get over it.
Fade to black is one of Metallica’s best songs hands down
One of the best songs hands down
Metallica is amazing and fade to black has amazing harmony.
I love that Howard has many millions of dollars but still uses a less-expensive Neumann microphone. That's awesome!
And to be fair, the audio from his show is so crisp and powerful sounding.
I'm not really sure what this is supposed to mean...should he use the most expensive microphone just because of the cost? Hi mike
Because Howard sound better with that mic I guess its has to do with being classic sound.
The guitar solo at the end gives me chills all the time absolutely love this song
I mean they are alright. Hope they make it big one day
Inb4 someone doesn't get it
For some reason I always look up when James says “ Now I will Just Say Goodbye! “
I will now consider ‘Metal Joe’, as one of the god fathers of metal music.
I love how Kirk and James have the need to play along with their own song while hearing it 😍
As a lifetime metalhead, I can attest that metal fans are both the best and the worst. I have been guilty of this. Thank-you Metallica for doing what you guys have wanted, always.
One of my favorite songs to pick on the guitar. The song is legendary.
That intro solo is so much fun to play
The bridge riff is one of the best guitar riffs of all time
Howard: give me chill
James & kirk: play guitar
Lars: *eat*
Creeping Death...is responsible for most of my hearing loss... DAMN WHAT A GREAT SONG !!!!!!!
Battery is my fisiotherapist favorit song, has made him rich over my neck

Hear a Metallica history with fade to black in the background is something else my friend...
I love how when the riff comes Kirk and James automatically start playing it😄
one of the one most beautiful metal songs ever made
Fade to Black is one of my favorites. It also reminds me of my brother who passed away 🖤
Metallica is a great Rock and Roll band. End of story. They can play anything. Seem like good guys. They write, record and play great. What the fuck else do people want from these guys.
They got alot of $hit for the Black Album. It's freaking great.
One of my all-time favorite sounding albums! :) \m/
It's okay.
It was a major change in tone, but it’s still a masterpiece.
@@candisham1978 the clarity in the drum tone (compared to anything they or any band previously had done) is incredible
@@candisham1978 But that can be said about every Metallica album though
dont get how you can be called a sellout . That album is metal masterclass.

Some closer-minded thrash fans only want Reign in Blood.

They have sold MILLIONS of albums, iconic band. And yet I still think they are under appreciated for how talented they actually are.
If Metallica had not done the Load and ReLoad albums and instead kept forcing thrash metal albums they would have gone stale and died.
3:04 James and Kirk pretending to play while Lars eats in the background
Chips from the green room
Great metaphor for Metallica
what a story, legendary band.
Epic song! I agree with Howard, it always gives me chills! I can’t help thinking of Cliff! RIP Cliff Burton !
Metallica are the most evolving band in the metal world, that’s why there the most successful in the genre…
Truth
Metallica fan since 92, seen em live in Halifax, Fade to black.. favorite song.
I had hears it was when they made a video for One.
Also, so epic to see them go into playing Fade to Black. They still love their job
Fade to Black? A sellout? Geez. It's so beautiful I use it as my alarm tone. No wonder I never wake up on time.

Thank you Metal Joe, whoever you are. You saved Metallica.
"Ride the Lightning" is the best Metallica album.
Hands down.
2nd to AJFA, in my opinion.
The beauty of this band is this topic can keep going…. My opinion is master of puppets.
@@StrikeTeam0316 Not really. Their discography has a couple of masterpieces and then just some decent material, plus mediocrity.

3:04 Lars still eating his sandwich
Lars is not even best sandwitch eater in the band.
My favorite song .....crazy to think how some people hated it but dam it showed their maturity and guts to create masterpiece hits
My favorite Metallica song. Get goosebumps every time I hear that intro.
Metal Joe now goes by William Murderface, and plays base for some band called Deathklok.
Uh....... But they DID change their sound. GREATLY.
It's funny too because Escape is the song that James always hated as being to radio friendly

Metallica did sell out... every show in every town for the past thirty years 🤘🏻
This was the coolest rundown of the story behind the song I’ve ever heard.

Fade To Black is one of my favorite Metallica songs!♥️
The beginning of the album Ride The Lightning has accoustic, intro to Fight Fire With Fire
All I know is Metal Joe is cool AF 'cos he's wearing a Mercyful Fate DBTO US tour shirt!
My all time favorite Metallica song
Love love love Metallica 👍🏾
To be fair, Fight Fire With Fire also has acoustic guitar. It was because it's a ballad.
Thrashsiest ,fastest “ballad” i n the known universe :P
I love Fade to Black!
I love how James and Kirk play along with the song
This song always gives me goosebumps
Most other metal bands simply lack the talent to compose a song of such grandeur.
I love the song fade to black! what a band!!
Ha, usually the one's yelling "sellouts" can't get into the shows because they are, um, sold out.
I love Howard but I highly doubt it that he’s really into Metallica Especially the first three albums
He's been into Metallica for decades
Hell yeah. I’m a town over from old bridge.
I wonder what happened to the guys who stole their gears.?
They became "MegaDeath" lol
One of the best songs ever.
Just lost all my band’s gear in a flood...too relatable
I'd listen to Howard more if he did more of this instead of trying to start beef between people. Its so obvious in his line of questioning.
This song is so great it doesn't need a chorus!
I can’t imagine how pissed cliff would’ve been if someone stole his Rickenbacker
Actually he wasn't. He said in a interview that if someone came across it to just send it back.
Honesty is my only excuse.
Great song on a great album!
The Black album wasn't commercial?
@2:56 Howard Stern: "and then you come up with this". (and Lars is eating his lunch in the background). LMAO!
Strange, i always heard the 'sell out' label came when they did the Video clip for One
Obviously somebody gave them a check

Metallica forever! 🤘
