    Last week I went to classical vocal coach and she told me that I can sing professionally but I have to sign for conservatoire of Sofia naional academy. So I m serious about this period of my life and I found this channel just yesterday. Ms. Rapanan you are one of the rarest real singers who can teach us and we all learn vocal performance.

    Another excellent video. One can 'get away' with a lot of bad practices until it's too late. Sort of like speeding or smoking in that because nothing bad has happened yet, it never will. Prevention better than cure most of the time and good teachers share what they've seen and learned so we don't have to learn by making mistakes. Well, sometimes anyway. I always look forward to your videos.

    I have this habit of humming something or just lightly messing around my voice and nine times out of ten it somehow turns into a full on performance complete with high notes, vocal gymnastics, and probably a lot of stuff that could ruin my voice.. Even when I’m trying to rest my voice

I hear your voice in the back of my head reminding to do it right every time I do exercises lol. I have found my natural voice and I can sing for an hour straight without goin horse now. After doing vocal exercises my vocal chords don't want to come together anymore.I have to clear my throat a lot. It's different all the time. There are days when it works really well. Thank you. I found this video which answered a question i asked last week about the phlem. But I just fixed it by 1) being well hydrated 2) ignoring the urge to clear my throat, 3) gulping as an exercise, 4) warming up properly and 5) being more mindful of my posture and support. 😅 I actually found this video AFTER my performance today so this confirms I did the right things.
    Today was a real breakthrough because I didn't clear my throat one time. And there were 2 times phlegm tried to come steal my performance but I just ignore it and keep singing and it goes away.

    • @kralvltavin9173
      @kralvltavin9173 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also had a moment when I was going for high notes and it wasn't sounding right and I was about to start pushing but I just stopped and did some high lip trills (which revealed there was some blockage) and I was right back on track the rest of the time.

    • @kralvltavin9173
      @kralvltavin9173 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The other thing I'm proud of overcoming today was keeping my posture and support right and not hunching my shoulders when shifting into the higher registers. It took some conscious effort but I resisted the urge to hunch and I still hit the notes perfectly.

    My voice has been weak and tired, months ago my voice was at its peak for a beginner. But it’s not a sore throat but now it gotten very weak when I hit high notes. And before I hit them easily, and it’s cracking a lot more. I tried the water and tea and to rest for days but it hasn’t worked. A possible reason is that I switched my vocal coach and my new one says to start new exercises instead of my old teachers one.

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's possible that you are not used to the new exercises and are doing them incorrectly. I would discuss this with your teacher. Also, you can try a bit more vocal rest or at least resting from high notes until this is resolved. If it continues past 2 weeks without improvement, I would consider seeing an ENT dr.

    I noticed my voice was less resonant, clean sounding and a lot less agile. My voice used to float out effortlessly when I sang but for the past two years it’s been much more difficult. When I moved house the sound in the living room is ‘dead’ compared to my old place, and I think I’ve been trying to overcompensate by pushing my voice to create my volume. It’s so depressing that I’m now having issues, sore throat. I’m going on vocal rest and I want to start a fresh, hopefully without having to see a doctor to undo the damage.

    I've played guitar for years and wanted to sing but whistled instead. If I sang in private though I don't like my voice I know I can sing in Key. I've had a rough past 4 years with serious personal tragedy and the loss of one of my sons that died in an accident. I've gone through anger issues and yelled in private at the top of my lungs at the world going hoarse numerous times.. I've since been been hoarse and have lost the ability to speak properly. I've been told for years I have a great radio voice but not my voice cracks when I speak.
    I've gotten a grip on life and taken up the guitar again wanting so badly to sing but feel I forever will suffer the consequences for the rest of my days on earth.

      Make sure you are not getting sore throats or getting hoarse after singing a lot. Make sure you rest your voice. As for not talking for days, in my opinion, if you need THAT much rest, you are probably straining and overdoing your singing. I like hot herbal tea after singing a lot.

    Can you please do a video about singing in “cursive” and if it’s healthy or damaging to the voice? If it’s a simple answer then please reply to my comment. Singing in cursive for me, helped allow access to putting my sound forward, creating a less monotone flow so I can do riffs more easily. I just don’t want to get to attached to this habit if it’s bad. Thanks, much love from Dallas, TX! ❤️

      I cannot say specifically without hearing and seeing you. As far as style, I don't use the term "cursive", but I do teach different stylistic effects. I think it's important to do these things just for effect and not as your default (your habitual singing).

I've rested for six days and I can talk fine, but if i try to sing my neck muscles feel fatigued immediately. I can pinpoint pain in the stylohoid muscle. aggravated when I swallow. Would it be a good idea to stop singing for one or more days in your opinion? Hi. I have a question: my voice works perfectly, no particular effort when I sing at both ends of my range, low and high, but I always have extra flegma. I mean, ALL THE TIME. I am a teacher, I speak a lot and I sing at least one to two hours a day. I test my voice every morning singing in super light head voice to check if the vocal folds are coming together perfectly without air passing through and without points where no sound comes out. Why is that and is it still a sign of straining? I have been teaching for 10 years and singing for 7 years and I NEVER, ever lost my voice or experienced hoarseness, but the flegma has always been there..???

    • @Victoria-Victorious

    Regarding the clearing of the throat, what if this is something that I tend to do, even when not singing? If I happen to be at a gig and I need to clear my throat in the middle of a song or doing the event, I usually interpret it it as something that I would still be doing even if I were not singing (ie. The need to clear my throat is not provoked by singing at that moment).

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      In my opinion, if you have to clear your throat very often, it would be good to know why - is it from straining while you speak, acid reflux, post nasal drip from allergies, vocal folds too dry, etc. All of these can cause irritation. You might discuss with your dr at your next physical or sooner if you want to know.
