I was a bit down about not being able to do any singing practice for a few days after catching covid, then I remembered seeing that you'd done a video on singing while sick and decided to have a look. I love this mirening technique. It feels gentle on the throat and at the same time creates vibrations which feel very healing. And it takes less energy than full singing, which I don't feel up to yet. So I think it's a technique I'll also use in the future if I'm very tired but still wanting to do something. Thanks!
Talk about timing! I’m practicing for the Easter Cantata with our church choir and I’ve been sick the last two days. I was just wondering last night whether I should be singing through it or not, and now here you are with answers. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for providing such quality content!
I am a daycare teacher who loves to sing aa a hobby, though I am still at the beginning stage. I am what you call a "shy singer." I have been trying to improve on my voice but keep getting sick this year being around toddlers five days a week for 8 to 9 hours each day. My voice just hasn't been cooperating with me for a few weeks now, just as I was beginning to see improvement in my voice before I got sick. All of these exercises did work, but I just did the mirining exercise and I couldn't help but laugh at myself, but omg IT WORKS for both my singing and my shyness. I walked past and looked in my bathroom mirror at myself while mirining, and I laughed even harder. Thanks Victoria!😂😂
I was feeling a little ill, but I sang anyway. I regretted it because I had a horribly painful sore throat for over a week, I don't think it would have been so bad had I rested immediately 😓
All of this is good information and guidance, but the exercises are the highlight for me. Courage and skirting the edges should be informed by experience, intelligence and judgement. Or at least, so I've read. Enjoyed this video. Oh, and if you are still keeping a list of topic requests, I would like to hear a little more on cord closure. I'm not sure I understand how we're supposed to do this other than try things until we get the sound we want. And -taking advantage of your good graces- would you talk a bit about mike technique? I like classical singing for most music (what I think of as "singing on the breath" ) but there are many pop singers I admire and whose music I enjoy too. Always look forward to your videos.
My drummer had a studio booked and I had something gnarly going on but *check pulse* ....yep, still alive = jam time. I'm a tenor but I was sounding closer to a baritone and made sure to not to force anything that I thought might even come close. I sounded fine enough but Idk. I wouldn't recommend it unless someone is already comfortable with their range and knows when not to go there.
One of my greatest struggles is that I have a chronic cold with no pathogen involvement, and a permanent post-nasal drip, and some weird thing with my lung (this one started in 2019 after I acquired a tear in my lung from pneumonia that maybe healed improperly?). Makes it really difficult to sing. It also seems to gradually be getting worse over time. It might have something to do with my rare genetic disease, Idk. The periods of times I don't have these is so short that if I stopped singing because of it, I'd never be able to sing again. Typically, I do have troubles swallowing, and tend to aspirate quite a bit.
Hi Victoria, it is really helpful, I always wonder if I should continue my daily practice when my throat is slightly unwell. However, could you advise me if it is a good idea to do singing practice when doing physical exercises? I have a habit of doing my warmup singing practice when I am doing treadmill at home. I think it will be good for my training of breath as well, as it must be harder to sing while doing exercise. But some people said that it may hurt the vocal cords.
Hi, I got Covid 3 weeks ago, bronchitis, and lost my voice, then caught another cold in a row, and feel the need to clear my throat all the time, I haven’t being singing for 4 weeks now, what do u suggest?
Whenever there is an ongoing question about vocal health, it is best to consult with an ENT dr. These types of upper respiratory problems can linger. Do not force your voice.
so when we are sick it affects mainly resonance and throat right?(I assume cuz of these exercisers) i've read an article and they said that sinuses don't affect your voice so I was sad cuz I have chronic sinus and thought my singing sucks (not sucks but I got hard time to get my upper voice and my voice doesn't sound fully cuz of mucus in throat ) ..so it's just common that sinuses, gunk, phlegm /mucus affect voice right?
Yes, but if mucus is not too thick and if it is not causing throat irritation, you can usually sing through it. Best to see an ENT dr if you have chronic problems.
Mam i cant Hiss properly i guess im gushing out air so much. It feels like im hissing from my chest bone, even my hiss doesnt last long , pls help :) thank you
I want to improve my voice but it’s a bit scratchy sometimes… I don’t smoke or anything it’s just always been a bit raspy and was wondering what you think would help improve it, I feel that my voice is a bit weak.
I need some advice please. My twin sister and I hope to sing better but right now, our voices sound very similar almost exactly the same . Could that change? We want to go on our own journey but it’s kinda hard when our voices sound so much alike , like it sounds like we are trying to copy each other even though we’re not

I hope you will add the Arabic translation, thank you very much
what do you recommend to have a better support in upper belts?? (F5 and higher)

Hey Victoria if I purchase and send in a recording, approximately how long would that take?
Typically 48 hours.
so when we are sick it affects mainly resonance and throat right?(I assume cuz of these exercisers) i've read an article and they said that sinuses don't affect your voice so I was sad cuz I have chronic sinus and thought my singing sucks (not sucks but I got hard time to get my upper voice and my voice doesn't sound fully cuz of mucus in throat ) ..so it's just common that sinuses, gunk, phlegm /mucus affect voice right?

I would have to see and hear you to know. It could be irritation from vocal strain, allergies or ? If it persists, I would see an ENT dr.

Transition to another gender. It's all the rage nowadays
There’s no such thing as identical voices! It’s as unique as a fingerprint
I've found the best clearing exercise for myself is groaning and moaning, even if I'm not sick, what do you think?
That could work but I would need to hear you to be sure.
