  • It's quite easy to tap into volcanoes because sweepy can mop up Magma and liquid metals. Today in Oxygen Not Included I explore this idea and produce a working solution to cool volcanos and harvest their power in steam turbines. Works in vanilla.

Measurement is done by interaction, the sensor in a double slit experiment interacts with the electrons fired from the beam, that's what's meant by "looking at it".
Pop science interprets this as literal observation coming from you as the observer.

I was thinking while watching this video that it could be really cool if you would work toward making a super cool base incrementally in the style of these experiments. Each video will add a new segment that solves some sort of problem. After a few videos you would have a crazy base that each system feeds off of each other and would be organized chaos. Just a thought.

    Hey, FYI Brothgar
If magma solidifies into igneous rock and the pile lands on top of an existing pile, the temperature of the newly created igneous rock will equalize with the igneous rock already on the ground, which deletes heat.
You can use clever usage of mesh tiles to force the magma to be ejected out the corner to prevent it. I believe it was TonyAdvance that has a video on the subject of merging piles and heat deletion

You should setup a second stage steam room that takes the 200 degree rock and cools it with the 95 degree water output by the steam turbines. Then use doors to pump the steam in the second stage back into the first steam room. The second stage could also use a conveyor rail and kick material out once it reaches 105 degrees.

  • @Technovazz
    @Technovazz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

On my current playthrough I have 3 gold volcanoes that I want to tap into without building steam turbine on top of each. There is a special method with liquid pump in vacuum. Dropping 5 g of water activates the pump every now and again. I found it too unreliable and unnecessarily complex. If sweepies dont melt under 2800 celsius (liquid gold) then its a game changer. Thats actually good find Brothgar. So if I make sweepies out of liquid gold I should be able to carry that gold to where I need it too. Hope it works.

I can see this design improved by utilizing an industrial sauna as to allow for much more thermal mass to be introduced which would in turn reduce the amount of heat spikes in the system. Also industrial saunas are pretty rad! On another note would thermium/insulation pipes be capable of pumping liquid metals through? If so you could reduce the amount of heat being leaked out immensely by simply having the dupes put the liquid metals into a pool to be picked up with a pump, then just pipe the metals into the sauna. Better yet do a system similar to how you would usually tame a regular volcano (keeping the metal physically separated from the steam chamber) and have auto-sweepers pick the material up when it drops bellow a certain temperature threshold.
Edit: I wonder if theres any new interesting ways to do a sour gas boiler with sweepies now

  • @easygames5471

possible enhancement? put the material output inside the steam turbine room, fill the room with hydrogen, air lock entrance, cooling loop will cool the material even more, and materials are closer for tune ups as well.

sooo in reality i think geothermal power works kinda similar, just without the sweepy and the bottles? have you tried just tunnelling down to a volcano or the lava core and dripping e.g. polluted water down, then capping the hole with a steam engine? maybe then add an autosweeper or something to pick up the dirt (which i think is what polluted water produces when boiling?) and feed it to a bunch of meal lice or something.
might be able to turn a volcano and a toilet into a way lower maintenance power+dirt generator that way, just have the materials do the shipping for you?

Since in vanilla you cannot use autosweeper to deliver bottles, could you instead use a door conveyor system instead? The dupe drop the bottle using the drop-off building (do not remember the name but it is the one you use with the sweep only command for your centralized drop zone) and when it detects something (or on a timer), the doors will move the bottles toward the steam room.
Also, as I said last week, I tried turning off for your channel my ads blocker. But in this video, there have been an ad that lasted for nearly 3 minutes. Is it something that you can configure on your side? I do not mind 30s to 60s ads but near 3 minutes is a bit too much :)

Does this still work, I get so many problems with this. First it was not being able to select the liquid metal, which turns out was because no dupe could reach it. The main problem though is that the sweepy is melting pretty much on contact with the liquid metal, I tried with gold and steel.

  • @harrin1982

Brothgar, can you review the experiment, and look at the temperature of the materials put into the Sweepy dock, before it gets grabbed by the auto-sweeper? If my suspicion is correct, the materials *in* the dock may be loosing their temperature because of the auto-sweepers, not because of Sweepy. The experiment you ran with the auto-sweepers grabbing bottles of liquid would not have been a proper experiment, because a mod enabled the Auto-Sweepers to be able to grab the liquid, and additionally the liquid could possibly be getting handled different by the auto-sweepers at that point. If that is the case, what materials are you making the auto-sweeper out of, vs the Sweepy dock, and and what temperatures are they at? This might give some insight into the oddity.

I know I haven't watcjed the whole video yet but the cooling loop you are using why not run that loop through a liquid locks to keep them cool and make the build a bit compact. You already have a cooling loop why not incorporate it with a liquid lock?
I don't know maybe it would work just my 2 cents

I suggest enable sandbox in the game option of your map also download the sandbox tools mod that helps you delete certain layers in sandbox mode. It’s as close as you can get to debug mode without the hassle of trying to enable it (I play on MacBook for example)

Magma will always run out it has no renewable source. Volcano and other methods are best used to make magma more efficient. For example using magma as a cooling/heating loop in pipes.

@@didzee3720 Yes the starter asteroid or "map" that you play on is a friendly balanced biome that has almost everything except hot boulders, volcanos and stuff like that. To access that you need to go and select another starting asteroid or "map" you will see a selection button to "re-roll" your maps attributes as in geoactive, volcanoes, large glaciers, frozen core, etc. You can google search this and it will give you a list of different traits. This way you can select one you feel happy with :) For example if you want a challenge you would get metal deficient or some trait that would mess with your oil biome.. making it much harder to progress quickly.
