Nice! Way to keep the manual alive! It’s much easier with automatics as my liberty is one, but it feels pretty good to accomplish a hard trail with a stick. Thanks for watching!
Well done video! If I may suggest, you can air down way more than you did and it makes a huge difference. I ran 12 psi when I was on 33s and run 9 to 10 on 35s. Non beadlock and I've never lost a bead. Great driving and spotting, keep up the great content!
Thanks! I know I can but I didn’t air down further because I’m running stock protection. I’m upgrading the armor on the JL soon, but if I ever get to making my JL review, you’ll know why. Appreciate it tho!
Lol, Drew cut a lot of that out… but seriously, having those two guys out there made this tough trail a lot of fun! The Bronco definitely impressed me and it’s a shame Jeep won’t put stock 35s on a two door.

Great video and what an awesome trail. If you think that one was tough Im interested to see the video on Holy Cross. The boys from 4WD 24-7 just did a video on that trail and they turned around before the town site after multiple breakages on rigs running 35 - 37 tires.
Davon (his bronco setup the same as it was here), Drew (xterra but with more mods), and I (still completely stock) filmed Holy Cross last year. It’ll likely be a better video than this one, but Drew and I (the editors) work full time jobs so we are very behind on editing (25 videos to be edited). It was tough once it started raining, but we didn’t have any major breakage (altho I minor one). We’ll get to it, but we’re likely going to film it again and make it a two parter.
Great Video! I should be out in Silverton next August or September I would like to join up with your group especially if you are planning Black Bear/Imogene Pass I'm in a 2023 2dr Rubicon will be on 35s and a Mopar lift by then
I hope black Bear reopens… the San Miguel sheriff prevented it this year when the trail was safe to drive. We are always out there, but my schedule is chaotic.
Has the Broncos owner I'm a little biased on what my decision would be. The biggest handicap that jeep had was being a manual. In any case if I ever tackle that trail I would love to do it with you guys since you guys probably have not only more experience but definitely more experience on that trail. Great video
Watching myself, I definitely was exhausted. I’m always exhausted tho, but more so on blanca (work was stressing me out… screwed up my personal leave days like always).
On those rocks, you can air down enough so your tires do not slip. Spinning creates a lot of problems. Though, it looks like it was a manual so that didn’t help either.
I gave your dog a thumbs up! Great video and you have to take into consideration that a stock 2 door JLR on 33" tires is the true champion here considering that it was outgunned by the Bronco.
I've owned 2 JL Rubicons and currently own a Badlands on 37's. I can, with absolute certainty, say the Bronco is the best option for 99% of ppl overall, and the on-road ride comparison skews in favor of the Bronco in a significant manner. It's not even close. I'm very interested to see what they do (wrangler) with the upcoming total redesign.
Amazing video guy and It’s always entertaining seeing a Rubicon driver’s fragile ego get hurt when off-roading with a Badlands. It’s ok, Ford did a great job and it’s a brand new vehicle with new technology, it’s gonna be better inside and out, Rubicons are still amazing machines. It would be interesting to see how much better a 2-door Bronco would do with break-over.
32:13 minute mark. Us Bronco guys always have that thought in the back of our minds. Looking at the title of this video that’s all I was thinking about watching this haha. I wonder what tie rod replacement he has? Did he snap his prior? Either way…Great video. Earned a follow from me.
He just knew he’d be pushing it so he was preemptive. He has since gone to 37s, but no issues that I know of. Unfortunately my other buddy with a stock 2 door Sasquatch has cam phaser failure on his 2.7 and we were just working out wheeling plans. Hopefully he’ll be back up to speed soon tho. Just sucks for him. Welcome to the channel!
I thought your video was really good but the comparison was a Hmm. If your going to compare the two brands, then at least do it with 2 four doors on the same size tires or 2 two door versions. Only this way can the data not be biased. I've had have 3 Rubicons (2 two doors and now a gladiator), a Toyoda Tacoma four door truck, a 4 door ford half ton, 2 dodge diesels and a couple sws with independent suspension, which all have their ups and downs. Thus, I personally think overall matching lockers versa standard 4wd, especially matching wheel base and tire size to give the best overall comparison. Cheers
You have a very good point. We considered some of that when we filmed and knew to some degree outside of having a 2dr on 33s and a manual it would still have some differences. The automatic definitely helped the Bronco but the video documents the story of how the trail went for us and the vehicles we had available to us. Zak now after 2 years of waiting finally has his 2dr Bronco so I'm sure it will be in future videos.
@@DH.Maker.Artist Great to hear this update. I know you guys were trying to unbiased in your video and thank you for that too. Looking forward to watching another video.
This was filmed when there were hardly any broncos out there. Davon tried recruiting the few broncos out there at the time. I tried recruiting Jeeps. Pretty much all our wheeler friends were scared of this trail. Even a stock yet brand new 392 Xtreme recon who was onboard for a while (also just released). I’m mostly disappointed I couldn’t get another Jeep. Unfortunately this trail has a nasty reputation among Colorado wheelers. Still, almost every channel does apples to oranges comparisons including our local auto reviewers TFL… but we aren’t a comparison channel. We make trail and overland guides (filmed, but not edited yet) so trails are the focus here. However, I’d argue traction is traction and you get to see two stock vehicles, one with solid axles and another with ifs vehicle on a nasty trail. Not many people are willing to take their brand new 60k vehicles somewhere like this.
Factory skids and rails. Crossmembers got beat up and the rails flexed into the lower body causing damage. However, I’m not sure where it happened as I wheeled other hard trails after this. No frame or permanent damage and I was able to get body work to restore to factory. I recommend aftermarket rock rails for sure.
Well I’m biased and a long time Jeeper. I agree, but only Ford is giving the two door 35s from the factory. No Xtreme recon, no hemi, no diesel… Ford has the ability to surpass Jeep if Jeep doesn’t realize they are NOT a luxury brand.
@@coloradomallcrawlers I get that but the 4-door Rubicon actually is better in a lot of four wheeling situation’s. I had a 2021 two-door Rubicon and now I have a 2024 Rubicon extreme recon. The four-door is actually better climbing the hills in Moab Utah.
Maybe easier, but if you know how to bump properly, a 2 door won’t restrict you. Also having a better breakover and more maneuverability is pretty awesome and why Stan Fuller (stock CJ2A) outwheel everyone on TH-cam. If you want to see a master with a SWB, Stan is the man, he’s on TH-cam.
I’m new to off-roading with a manual transmission Bronco, I’m always concern about messing up the clutch when going over obstacles and you’re constantly clutching in/out. Am I just paranoid?
It’s definitely more challenging. I’ll admit I’m a bit nervous about the JL’s manual, but I’ve been wheeling a manual since I could drive… my manuals have always lasted. The JK’s had to be replaced after 10 years of use. You should be fine!
If you have the granny gear and in 4 low you can almost just drive without using the clutch in my JK rubi if in 4 low you basically can’t kill it in 1st so no need to clutch in and out a lot!
Pretty sure I was locked in the rear at least. I didn’t lock the front a lot on this trail as I wanted to keep my maneuverability, but it’s possible I wasn’t locked. If so, it wasn’t intentional. I didn’t edit the footage so I’d have to look through it to know. I just know I didn’t expect to struggle on it, expected to struggle on 2.5 tho.
@@coloradomallcrawlers Thanks for the reply. I was seeing the front wheels spinning at different times. The brake locking diff works but not near as good as being fully locked in. When fully locked, when one wheel spins so does the other at exactly the same rate. You would have diffidently made it easier on that part of the trail fully locked and the stick shift adds a lot of frustration also(great driving btw). Watch at 20:43 and you will see what I am talking about(BLD). Great rig BTW and I loved the video!
I think it's only fair when comparing a stock rubicon to a stock bronco that if the bronco has the sasquatch package the jeep should have the xtreme recon package.
I agree, we tried, but due to the trail’s reputation… only Davon and Drew showed up. Not many will take their stock 50-60k vehicles on this trail and that’s what we did here. We are also not a comparison channel, we make trail guides with stock and modified SUVs and that’s what this was. It was also filmed when there were hardly any Broncos out there (Davon was one of the first to get his) and we had one person who just took delivery of an Xtreme recon. He was coming when it was his modified g wagon, but then backed out when he got the Xtreme recon.

Pretty impressed with both! Nice vid!
Me too! We thought there was a good chance one or both of us might need help so we had a local rescue vehicle on standby. Thanks for watching!
Great video! Has me wanting to try it....maybe....i think i need to find me a dedicated camera-man....so many good angles and shots!
I filmed this one so poorly… it’s amazing Drew was able to make such a great vid. I want to go back just to film it better lol
Great video!!🎉❤
Thank you!
@coloradomallcrawlers I've always enjoyed your vids as they've always been very informative and the locations...SPECTACULAR!👏👍 Very fun, all around!
I was impressed with the rock rails on the Bronco. They absolutely saved the doors. Can you share what brand or where you got the sliders?? thanks
I’ve messaged Davon your message… hopefully he’ll respond to you.
The rock rails I have were cheap-o N-fab. They’ve handled the abuse very well and are direct bolt on. No issues at all.
Great video. Sad to see all the beetle kill up high.
Agree!
Has the Broncos owner I'm a little biased on what my decision would be. The biggest handicap that jeep had was being a manual. In any case if I ever tackle that trail I would love to do it with you guys since you guys probably have not only more experience but definitely more experience on that trail. Great video
Thank you! It’s a fun one!
Looks exhausting for man & machine...
Watching myself, I definitely was exhausted. I’m always exhausted tho, but more so on blanca (work was stressing me out… screwed up my personal leave days like always).
What tire pressures were you guys using? Cool video, looks like a heckuva trail.
I think I was 15-20psi in the Jeep, the others were probably 15psi
The Perfect Counter was....Perfect
You both made it! But I'd take the Bronco all day. Thanks for the vid.
Of course!
@004 Rubicon owner here. Best jeep ever built in my opinion.
They’re definitely great Jeeps!
@@coloradomallcrawlers I'm 68 years t and have owned and driven many 4x4's
On those rocks, you can air down enough so your tires do not slip. Spinning creates a lot of problems. Though, it looks like it was a manual so that didn’t help either.
Yep, manual
That is crazy town....
Lol, we just like to push ourselves and our vehicles.
This is why I'm going to get a 2 door manual Bronco.
Manual is the way!
More trail than I would want to do in my rigs current configuration for sure
It really was brutal… I’m pretty sure some of my lower body damage was from Blanca if not all of it. Now just waiting on better skids and rails.
I gave your dog a thumbs up! Great video and you have to take into consideration that a stock 2 door JLR on 33" tires is the true champion here considering that it was outgunned by the Bronco.
Lol, thanks! Jeep should have offered a factory 2 door Jeep on 35s tho 😉
"Perfect' video! Wonder if the results would be similar if both vehicles were either Jeep or Bronco with Wheelbase being the only difference
We got this NO problem
Glad you think so!
The dog was an expert spotter in a previous life.
Lol
Own a 4 door jeep wrangler JL with a manual. It would be nice if Jeep added a super low first gear to their manuals
Absolutely in full agreement… would love a true crawler gear!
Missed 1 on the "perfect" counter. "Ok perfect good" at 13:10
Perfect
As.long as you have extra rocks and extra people the jeep does great. Bronco all the way !!!
Lol
Well done video, bravo. I'm glad to see that Jaws 2 has been make less lethal, kudos to the folks that made that happen.
Couldn't agree more! Thank you!
Good input!
You’re wheeling with the wrong people if your buddies with Rubicons have fragile egos.
So much talk about the Bronco snapping tie rods. Was anything done to the broncos tie rods? Any issues?
I watched the video again in different spots. The Bronco did have upgraded tie rods.
I'm impressed with the X.
The Xterra is sweet!
Great video! Looks like a fun trail - how long did it take to get to the end where you camped?
Thank you! I think it’d take about 3-4 hours… we were filming so it took a little longer.
I love it thank you.
Thank you too!
Bronco appeared to have better traction on a lot of the obstacles. I really thought the swb would make a bigger difference.
He’s a better driver than me 😉. I tug him on a future video… they have very similar traction abilities.
Were the lockers on ?
Yes
Do you have skid plates under the jeep? Any damage?
Factory skids and rails. Crossmembers got beat up and the rails flexed into the lower body causing damage. However, I’m not sure where it happened as I wheeled other hard trails after this. No frame or permanent damage and I was able to get body work to restore to factory. I recommend aftermarket rock rails for sure.
The Wrangler is a much better 4X4 for a number of reasons but to name one…the solid front axle is a huge advantage!
@@coloradomallcrawlers YES, is that the name of his channel?
@@coloradomallcrawlers I found him!!! Thx!
Great job. That trail was awesome. Marked it in my Gaia app. Is it doable in June or still snow?? Thanks
Depends… best to check TrailsOffroad before doing so or calling the local ranger district.
Is this something a stock Jeep JT Rubicon on 33s could do?
I wouldn’t. Our recs are mentioned at the end.
U guys are crazy!
Lol
When you upgrade tires eventually, 35's make a huge difference...
I still like the challenge of picking my lines.
Jaws 3 looks like you were only using BLD and not locked in. That would have made a huge difference.
I’ll check it out… I’m beat right now tho as I scouted a trail after work today. Thank you!
Is that jeep on 33?
Yes it is
