First off, if I could I would get rid of the background music, so sorry. Now I got that out of the way, a good buddy of mine just happened to come over and want to install a cam in his 6.2 . And here it is, if you want to hear what it sounds like it's at the end of the video.
The ULTIMATE Chevy LS CAM and VALVE SPRINGS HOW TO ( Texas Speed Torquer V2 )
So many failed steps...
And
@@Donnythelatemodeltech and what? You didn't understand my English bro? 🤷♂️
@@JustAGuy781 And the failed , sorry, so many failed steps are....... let's hear it guy. Teach me something.
@@JustAGuy781 drop some knowledge
@@Donnythelatemodeltech my point was and is this, if you are not going to follow the correct steps and do the right things all while trying to show others "how its done" then best not to do it at all. Not knowledge, just common sense really.
I've watched a half dozen videos on how to do the CAM swap in an LS, but I like this one best, few important details were left out but the video was a start to finish install which is what I've been wanting to see. The reason for the guides and the markings for the cam were the only things not detailed, mentioned, but not detailed. GREAT JOB!!!
Dope video I like how yall showed the whole process and the end result was dope💯😎
i just wanted to know how to re-install a factory cam gear but you showed me much more. Thank you so much and thank for me the mechanic in this video. Keep on man!
Thank you sir. If have time please check out my latest loads , they could use some support. Thanks again.
The video was awesome! I’ve been really studying how to do this so I can hopefully do it by myself soon, thank y’all so much
th-cam.com/video/WMpO258Fw5s/w-d-xo.html. This will help you out.
Same here bro . Have you done the cam swap yet?
Looks like its all torqued to proper spec. Gootentite.
Like the German girls, gutentight
I was surprised to see a gasket when the valve covers were removed 😂 nice job on the install! 💪🏼
Cam swap in under 24 min pretty cool
Video editing
Great video!! In your opinion, do you think the years 14 and 13 are the roughly the same?
Wow. I didnt know that its so easy to get in. To synchronize correctly with crankshaft. And adjusting lifters? Cool
Wow, what kind of exhaust. Sounded awesome
You got that damn song on repeat or what
At the end of the video the truck sounded great and seem to be pretty fast.
Sounds awesome! Nice looking truck as well
I’m new to the Ls platform but not to sbc engine building. My question is their isn’t any need for adjustment of the valves on these motors. I’m use to the old spin the pushrod until it’s tight then turn a 1/4 turn to lock it down method
I have a question got a stuck lifter or carboned up valve been contemplating a cam swap for some power & a little rumble on my gmc 6.2 liter which is a 9LH no lifter cylinder deactivation. My question is will the motor have to have a tune for electronics for the timing. Do you buy a programmer & input your new information into it?
Do u have to turn the engine to TDC to tighten the rocker assembly or can you just torque them down where they are? Looks like u just tightened them down
I kinda skiped thru so yall may have said something but wernt those blue valve springs the gm performance ones that are only rated for .550 lift
rated for .570 lift
Wow that thing was moving out & sound good doing it. Did you change the torque converter too? Sound like it shifted real good. Solid build that's whatni wanna do to mine. Like I said do you by a programmer or something to change timing?
Damn all these TH-cam technicians, iguess they swap engine everyday online
ok thank you, and one more question! at minute 13:36 you put two long white tubes, so you put them on? thank you very much for answering. You are an expert
Before they removed the old camshaft, they spun it around to raise all the lifters in their bore. The long white things are to stop the lifter from falling back down into the bore and creating an obstacle when they reinstall the new cam. Hitting a dropped lifter could potentially damage the new camshaft or the lifter that may be struck upon installation. Even a little nick in the new cam could have catastrophic results down the road.
What where the white things called
great job bro. fuck the haters. they are like ant's they are everywhere. roll Chevy roll. the long wayyy
What size rods are those bro good stuff
Installing a Cam kit similar to this one on my stock '03 Tahoe... I would notice the increase in HP, would there be anything else like sound, gas mileage, etc.?
Thinking of caming mine I got the cam and springs do I need to put lifters to ? Or just springs
just springs if
I just replaced the AFM lifters in my 2008 5.3 Chevy and I still have a ticking. Thinking I might have to replace the camshaft. About how long did it take you on that job?
Blue valve springs! LS3 springs no doubt!!
coarsegrind ls6 beehive springs
@@shanehubright2602 yep
I seen a bunch of cams put in trucks but never see any one do it right the cam barrings should be replaced.
So i have a question. I just did my camshaft swap with a btr complete kit and after the install i had a p0341 code come up on my 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 4.8L. All my timing was spot on but i ended up replacing the sensor. I still have the code on. Any suggestions???
Do you know if there is a video of the whole AFM delete? I have to do lifters and cam. Also not sure which cam to get. If I can get more performance while keeping everything else stock, that would be ideal.
Get t ing ready to do afm delete on myb15 6.2 LT engine. Kinda freaked out though , it's different than a LS is a few ways. I'm old school and never fooled with a LS and the LT is even freakier. Reckon I will figure it out. Shop wants 8k bucks to do it and I ain't got it like that.
24 minute video, but If how long is the process from start to finish for an experienced mechanic vs. a first timer? This is probably something a first time I should not even consider is what I'm guessing.
Do you install the "same" rods in the same order you took them out, eg same spot same orientation.
Why didn't you grease the new cam? Was the "NEW" cam Used?
I think I need to post an extra video ,where this guy installing the cam is coating the cam in oil and stroking the shit out of. Lol. Thanks for watching.
TheLateModelTech2.0 Peeople are just disappointed that they didn’t get to see him stoking his shaft. Perverted degenerates.
I take it same process goes with any other pushrod v8 like a 4.8 or 5.3 not much different I’m wanting to do a cam swap on mine but really don’t want to mess with valve springs and or get different pushrods I just want to swap the cam and have some chop and little more pep. I take it y’all used factory pushrods and springs or were they aftermarket cam sounded good
Aftermarket pushrods and springs, this truck had a hand full of cams thrown at it before this video.
TheLateModelTech2.0 oh ok thanks
Brian Tooley Racing has an NSR (no springs required) cam for $299
LORD RADO
yes, but how much could you really get out of a cam with such small lift you can use the stock springs with?
@@gregallen9065 biggest benefit would be the 3 bolt conversion, and the VVT delete.
Did you have to mess with the distributor at all or does it have one
Bumpin’ some JAMZ JBoog Fiji thanks for the upload I plan on doing the same to my Denali
Good catch!
What are to the rods that’s you installed to keep the lifters up off of the cam ?
Thank you for the video. One question: i have a 2009 gmc 2500hd sierra year 2009 6.0 liters with 140 k miles, and was told by the dealer they found roughness in rocker arm from worn camshaft lobe causing low pressure on one cylinder and they said to replace camshaft and lifters. But another shop said it was just better to just order another remanufactured engine because there is no point in putting new lifters and new camshaft into used worn out engine with worn parts that might be failing also or that might start to fail. What is your recommendation? Thank you
The shop that said you needed a new engine is just trying to get after your money. Replacing the lifters and cam isn’t super expensive especially if you do it yourself. However if you have one of the gen 4 afm motors it might be more of a pain / more expensive
What brand and where did you acquire the clamp removal tool? Very cool!

That's a snapon tool
Do you have to upgrade the valve springs with that cam upgrade?
They don't answer back but it looked like they already had upgraded the springs & are messing around with different cams for their desired outcome?
After installation, was the truck tuned?
What type of wooden dowels did you use to hol the lifters
I didn’t see him put lube on cam before installing???😮
What kind of hack job is this? Sticks to hold the lifters up? No lube on the bearings? Inserting a dry cam? I'm not a pro by any means, but geez.
the sticks holding the lifters up is common practice, you can go ahead and watch engine masters do the same thing with every LS cam install. its also a roller cam so its not as critical that it goes in lubed (the lobes at least) the bearings should be oiled and since this is not the first cam installed in this truck I'm going to hope the the bearings were at least oiled.
I’m thinking about doing a stage 2 cam on my 5.3 2012 Sierra. Will the trans and drive shaft handle it fine or do I need a built trans and driveshaft?
Should hold up if n in good shape
Its sounds awesome
🤙
Nicely done
I have a 2011 Chevy Silverado 5.3 lc9 engine and I want to install into a 2007 Chevy Silverado 5.3 that has a lh6 engine in it can that be swapped out without deleting anything ?
What were the two rods for, where were they from? You put them in right before you pulled the camshaft out. Is that to help prevent the lifters from falling down?
+Stephen Markham yep,

what are the rods you used to hold the lifters? are they a specific diameter?
i asked my buddy, he said he got them at home depot. "they just wooden dowels , not sure what size, just buy a couple of them.. they cheap" . lol
I used 5/16 Wooden dowel rods and they worked just fine
That sounds nasty I cant wait to cam my 00 Silverado
Nice job sir 🇺🇸
Love that reggae that was playing in the background! And great video💪🏼 #FIJI#SweetDarling
Got an 07 6.0. Just dropped a lifter on 6 and I want to put new ones with a more aggressive cam. What can and lifted combo would you recommend without changing anything major. Has 35s on a six inch lift, stock gearing and is my driver as well. Also has K&N air intake.
message this guy th-cam.com/video/oERgkfz-5OE/w-d-xo.html he is the owner of this cammed ls. he's got some good info on cams and the ls. check this link out th-cam.com/video/3mfSX06-1Ho/w-d-xo.html he is doing a cam on a lifted 5.3
Check out Brian Tooley Racing, they deal with anything and everything LS and Vortec. What I'd recommend is their Stage II truck cam, Stages III and IV will most likely require building up the transmission. (depending on if your truck is an HD or a vortecmax 1500)
Would the concept be the same on a 4.3 v6
What did you have to do when pulling the cam out when twisting it and pulling out a certain way?
just need to guide the lobes through the bearings. Not really a specific way to do it you just need to "finesse" it out without damaging the bearings
My question is do you have any way to tell if the rockers are tightened to spec?
Dude I think it's like 20" pounds there's no gapping the lash like old days tighten up bolt on parts & go.
what about a tune???
Awesome video bro🍻
What’s the tool you use to keep the lifters up
Bro I personally love the background music I was curious who the artist was cuz it was chill music to work to I thought
Is that chain doesn’t matter what way it goes
What
Yo man that was fkn awesome yo!!!!!!
How long did the whole process take
Do you happen to know any camshafts that are legal in california? I have a 5.3L v8, vortec engine btw. Thanks if you happen to know any
Any cam swap is not California legal. . That said you need to contact a cam dealer and ask if they have or can make a custom grind that can pass the sniffer
Miguelspl150 hey thanks man, your a life saver bro fr!
@@bababooey8572 many low lift cams will help you pass smog little lunati is one of em. passed snog with flying colors.
No tune or any other parts needed with this specific cam? Just swap cam and turn the key?
Needs a tune
Did you use the factory AFM lifters?
I haven't a clue, this wasn't my truck.
What brand is the cam ?
Did you need to degree the cam ?
Did that impact cost a million bucks?
Thanks for start to finnish!
Did you have to replace t
The valve spring with that camshaft or can it be done with factory ones ?
Edthan Grecs yeah this was my truck, I replaced them with ls3 valve springs which I've had good luck up to .570 lift, they were plenty strong enough for this low lift high duration cam
Edthan Grecs
Does anyone know what was that he slide in to keep the lifters from falling ?
Extra large chopstic
How long did it take you guys to do the swap to first start?
Maybe 2 or 3 hours. Maybe. There a food and beer breaks in there.
Hello friend, do not need to remove the head of cylinders to remove the camshaft ??
Nope
Those stickman he put in before pulling the camshaft prevent the valves from falling into the block.
What kind of muffler and exhaust was that??
How long start to finish?
Awesome!
That’s one sick Denali bro!
What if I put the cam in upside down?
Ka Boom💥
@@Donnythelatemodeltech 😂
You'll get a 100 extra horsepower lol
Is that the whole installation? Did u put new lifters in it
+Trent Cook I'm pretty sure the heads never came off this truck.

someone was in that engine before you seems. cool vid though.
How do you keep the lifters from falling in the block without pulling the intake?
Jason Cantrall the 2 wood dowels keep them from falling.
Sorry, I didn't see where you put them in at. I'm going to be putting a cam in on my 5.3 soon with a turbo kit, so looking for the easiest way to get it done.
Oh ok I see it now, what holes do they go in?

The 2 holes are just above the cam to the left and right, that and using the top dead center method to prevent the valves from falling are the easiest methods when doing valve springs. Compressed air can also be used to hold up the valves.
No lube?
How much it's cost?
ZR ZRR it’s nearly $1,000 in parts, if not over it to remove AFM from these engines and also requires a tune for about $200.
Yeah.... i have no patience for that, i’d probably break a few things
Lol yes a lot of patience
What valve springs do you run in that thing?

This cam picked up tons more low end torque over the ls9 cam. Under the curve power made it much more fun to drive
No need to remove the AC condenser?
nope
Removing the intake was unecessary!! Did you put some silicone on the corners of where the front cover meets the pan!!?? Could have at least put on some assembly grease on the cam real quick before install!! Its good that you found a way to reduce the amount of work needed to replace the cam but no need for a sloppy install but whatever its your truck your money to each their own!!
Jorge Vasquez huuuuuuuh
Sterling Witherspoon what didnt you understand??
i'm more curious about those useful holes with white sticks in it?!!?!?!?!? to support lifters i assume, do i have the same on my 4.3 vortec? Gonna do the same procedure installing cam with 0.5in lift\260sep.
youre trying waaaaaay to hard lol
Nicky Surr yes u do
Thanks
No assembly lube on the cam I guess we like stuff to go bad lol
I install without it also and never a cam fail the old cams yes
They're hydraulic rollers u can just stick them in hydraulic flat tappets gotta be lube and use zinc
I’m ordering my cam today do I need to get new gaskets for timing cover ?
I would.
TheLateModelTech thanks bro
TheLateModelTech i got my wooden dowels stuck they broke while being inside . How can I get them out? Removing heads , or dropping trans and pushing them all the way out the back?
@@betosgarage Bummer man! Did you get the dowels out? What'd you end up doing?
Matthew Bainbridge man I dropped trans & removed the rear main back seal them got 5/16 metal rods and shaved them flat one side & pushed them out the back . Cleaned everything with compressed air . Runs like a champ 👍
Lol cam went in dry
+jeff edwards lol cam went in wet , not greased, but wet. This wasn't my truck, and i think the cam was used from another project. 2 or 3 cams where put in this truck. Thanks for watching !
Yeah he did put it back in dry no lube grease
I noticed the cover was not a vvt cover indicating the removed cam was likely not the original.
@@coarsegrind I caught that too. Especially being a 3 bolt.
@@coarsegrind could be he just did the DOD delete kit, my 9-7x had the DOD fail, previous owner did 799 heads ls2 lifters, and an ls2 cam.
I'm tempted to swap it with a performance come in the next month or two.
How much you pay for the cam?
But the stock springs, rods, lifters are adequate
This truck had different springs
nice work but not easy need more detail on traque
That’s a lot of silicon...
Looks like it’s giving birth
To more hp lmao
😀👍
Laugh my ass offf!
