On the oil pump pick up I cut the spot weld on the tab, spun it around and used the other hole in the pump. But I had to drop the pan to get it off and I have a 4x4 .
Great info! I think I’m gonna have to do this to my Avalanche soon. On start up, you can hear some noise that goes away after a while. By far one of the dumbest creations GM has done. Great work man!!!
Nice work on the 5.3. I have a couple lifters on my 2001 Chevy 1500 LS 5.3 with 218k on her. Did a frame off restoration and it’s time for some engine upgrades. Not like the old days when you didn’t have to pull the heads to replace lifters. Lol! Great job.
On those style torque wrenches, you want to make sure the plastic handle isn’t touching the bar itself when you are using it. That’s why the handle pivots in the middle.
unfortunately in our country ( the Netherlands ) there are not many tuners who know how to tune the engine after the cam swap. I really wanted the chopacabra, but I can't find a tuner with the confidence for this job.
this is really good video but just like to tell you that whenever you install rocker arms and push rods, the rocker arm tip on both side should be oiled or greased and push rod should be oil or greased never install dry.
on that particular timing chain i would recommend changing it due ti the face the i believe is a bit looser so the tensioner style can keep it tight. a basic ls2 chain it a bit tighter or even an older non dod motor
Its such a pleasure to see this man work. He is so clean and methodical. Quick question sir, where did you learn how to wrench? (self taught? Military? OTJ? Tech school? Your pops?)
Many thanks!🙏🏼 For the most part, everything I know has been self taught. My father passed when I was 13 yrs old, and a good memory I have of him was helping him work on his Ford LTD. I cleaned the carburetor and helped put it back. after hearing that thing start right up, it put a smile on both our faces. I remember him being proud of what we did together, and since then I continued wanting to impress him.
When installing the valley cover what did you do with the plug in sensor that connected to the old valley cover not the oil pressure sending unit but the plugin sensor next to it
Great video dude step by step on everything, after watching it now I’m excited to do it , I have a collapse lifter on the passenger side should I get a a kit and did what you did replace everything including the cam too ?
The exhaust manifold is in the way and can't access the head bolts behind it. Is there something I should do to drop it down so that I can get the clearance to get to the bolts?
Personally inwoukd have just pulled the engine seems like a lot less work honestly and risk on not dropping something somewhere it shouldn't plus the ease of working on the engine
i justy installed a new timing chain and when I torque it down to spec the crankshaft does not move at all and the chain doesn't move, I also have the stock sprocket, any ideas? I have a 2002 6.0 lq4.
Aye bro do you have to check clearance on heads when u get machine shop heads done and cam stage three springs lifters done to 5.3 Chevy Silverado 02 ?? I need help bad
Really good video ... appreciate any feedback, about to do the same to my 13 Silverado Did you replace the oil pan gasket? Or no need? Did you loctite the sprocket bolts, harmonic balancer bolt, or head bolts? Or no need?
When I did this to my Tahoe, I loosened all the oil pan bolts and it dropped about an inch. That was enough to remove the bolt to the pickup tube, but when everything was all back together. I ended up with a leak from the oil pan. Later, I replaced the pan gasket and found that if I had removed the cross member under the oil pan, it would have made my job a lot easier. It 4 bolts. So I recommend that! You might need to remove a line that goes to the power steering rack to remove the pan. You'll know which one. Yes, loctite is a must. Whatever help you need just ask. I'll try to guide you. Might make some private videos and send you the link.. you got this! 👍
I'm thinking on ls upgrading my 03 tahoe I've never changed a camshaft but I am mechanically inclined......is it fairly easy for someone that's never done a cam swap
Hello just watched you video…looking do to a vvt delete and stage 2 cam upgrade on a 2007 Escalade 6.2 …is it similar to the 5.3? I am mechanically inclined so I could be done in my garage right?
They have a bearing on the rockers that sit on a trunion guide, and they all go tightened at the same 22 ft lbs. You can rotate the crank 180° and double check to confirm.
First of all he forgot one step number 1 cylinder wasn’t lined up cylinder 2 was lined up so he had it backwards u need too set your 6 and 12 position before u put the cam on
One of the best if not "the best" instal video on here, looking forward to seeing more videos like it. Big thx God bless.

Dude, you’re awesome! Can you describe a little more about the dod delete? Thank you so much
Been there done that! 👍 Great job. Stay persistent, have confidence. Starter Up. Can't wait to hear the new cam..

I’m sorry I thought the clicks in the song were the clicks of the torque wrench 🔧. I was like “wait, wth?” Lol. Good video!
Since the roller lifters are prone to failing and chewing up the cam , this procedure is becoming more common . Might as well go with a cam upgrade 👍

We need that 1st start vid nooooow
I really like the zip tie trick on the oil pump bolt 👍
Great video, lessons, explanations, camera work...thank you keep up the great videos & good luck with ride
this is really good video but just like to tell you that whenever you install rocker arms and push rods, the rocker arm tip on both side should be oiled or greased and push rod should be oil or greased never install dry.
Great Video! I like the old school torque wrench.
Man this is so relaxing
Like everyone else has said. Great video brotha! You made that look easy and painless. How’s that tahoe running today?
Keep up the great work

Good video dude!!! Camera not all shaking. Good lighting and voice. I’m about to do mine and u explain very good.

Impressed with your knowledge and talent... always enjoy your videos...
Glad you finally put on those black gloves. Take care of hands. 🙏
What was your Ft lbs torque sequence? I know it starts at 22lbs but then 90degree and 60degrees but curious on ft lbs numbers
Very good video home boy one of the best i seen now its my turn to replace my lifter on my 6.2 yukon gracias
Simply fkng outstanding!👍👍👍👍👍
i wish you would have showed how to use the torque wrench . and also the sitting of the lifters
Gives me confidence

If ya heat up harmonic balancer's crankshaft hub with a torch it'll slide right on.
When installing the valley cover what did you do with the plug in sensor that connected to the old valley cover not the oil pressure sending unit but the plugin sensor next to it
Did you do the 90/70 degree angle on the head bolts?
Good vid man, even your choice of music in background made the video look so relaxing 😎 shit think I'm ready to do my 07 avalanche 👍🍻🍻
Great video dude step by step on everything, after watching it now I’m excited to do it , I have a collapse lifter on the passenger side should I get a a kit and did what you did replace everything including the cam too ?
Thanks for good job. Perfect video. It really helped.

Firmeee.😜that where im at on my 88 chevy 454. Califas
I think I would've pulled the motor and did a complete rebuild if I tore it down that far
Question for you, with that stage 2 cam you were able to use oem rocker arms and trunions? Or did you upgrade your trunions on OEM rockers ?
Que parte de Texas radicas brother
Great videos, great mechanic.
Excellent vid ,,How did the cam change work out for you ? Did it lose any bottom end power ? Did you feel a noticeable amount of power from it ?
Great work bro gonna sound nice!!
How much was the new performance Cam, valve springs??? Thank you =)
BEAUTIFUL VIDEO MY MY I APPRECIATE YOU BROTHER
Did you eliminate the flex fuel feature by replacing those lifters with different ones?
awesome vid...can't wait to hear that cam
Great video. You keep going to your phone for torque specs. Is there one place you get them or from just anywhere?
Good day friend, what camshaft did you install and could you tell me the exact model to install on mine?
What size oring did you use for the oil pick up tube? Did you replace your oil or water pump? I have 160k miles on my truck.
Hi. Hey! What was the torque specs to the heads cylinder bolts?
Super informative, appreciate the video dude
Do the new replacement cam lifters have springs on any of them anymore? I didn’t see the new ones.
What is that tool you use to torque the bolts
Excuse me, friend, where can I get the torque? Did you use it in all the work?
What timing chain & sprocket did you go with ? I’m doing a stage 2 btr cam on my 5.3 , but the last piece to the swap is the timing chain & sprocket.
De donde saco los torques de cada tornillo apa?
Nice video did you resurfaced the head or no
Is that a torque wrench or torque angle wrench?
i justy installed a new timing chain and when I torque it down to spec the crankshaft does not move at all and the chain doesn't move, I also have the stock sprocket, any ideas? I have a 2002 6.0 lq4.
Did u leave the stock stall convertor
Lest get it bro how much was for all the parts
Any reason why my new timing chain is loose when installing it back with the chain damper that came with the kit?
What ft lbs torque did you give the heads ?
Thats the website to get the Torque specs on the engine bolts
Where did u find the torque specs?
What kind of torque wrench are you using
So did you put the # 1 piston in top dead center before this or you just need to line up the sprockets?
Did you ever find out this question? Are you supposed to?
did u degree the cam?
All that and you put the old oil pump back in ? Not a good idea.
Damn great video lots of information and iv been watching automotive content for 10+years 👍
😎🙏 thanks bro
Hey I'm in the process doing a cam change out did you use the factory oil pump
Where do you have your mechanical workshop?
What are the torque specs for the bolts that have to torqued down.??
Aye bro do you have to check clearance on heads when u get machine shop heads done and cam stage three springs lifters done to 5.3 Chevy Silverado 02 ?? I need help bad

Wait, no cam degree?
How many hours does it take to do everything??

Me gusto el video por favor podria decirme Los torque specs
Pienso hacer este trabajo en una Tahoe 08 igual a esta de usted
your not saying what you are torqueing the bolts to
Great job Bro 😎 , question? How you calibrated the valves rockers ? Is any method that you can explain me? Thank you Blessings
Calibrate the rockets? Ls rockers just tighten down.
Not adjustable.
Hello just watched you video…looking do to a vvt delete and stage 2 cam upgrade on a 2007 Escalade 6.2 …is it similar to the 5.3? I am mechanically inclined so I could be done in my garage right?
I have tahoe 2011, the lifter make noise do I need to change just only lifter?
The head bolts torque are?
Can you tell me
I'm a bit confused... aren't the rockers supposed to be torqued with the cam lobe in a certain position per each cylinder?
They have a bearing on the rockers that sit on a trunion guide, and they all go tightened at the same 22 ft lbs. You can rotate the crank 180° and double check to confirm.
Did you re use any gaskets
Good shit man.
Great video 👍👍👍👍
First of all he forgot one step number 1 cylinder wasn’t lined up cylinder 2 was lined up so he had it backwards u need too set your 6 and 12 position before u put the cam on

How much to do all this to my truck for me? Bro I’m lost….LoL. You make this looks easy.
Link to where you got the parts?
I have to do ssme job on my 2001 suburban 5.3 thanks for the video it really helped me
Good stuff bro you know your stuff
Nice work, did you purchase all the parts as a kit or some parts individually?
I bought the parts as a "dod delete" kit, but with a stage 2 low lift cam from tsp.
Later I bought a melling oil pump,
Great content , man you can move fast !
Would it be cheaper and less hassle to get a brand new GM Goodwrench engine put in at the GM Dealer?
Not with that cam. And depends on your budget
where are your video with you starting it up
